NC State Game Predictions

Surprised it has taken until Thursday afternoon to get this thread started?I believe the Zips defense is now big enough, deep enough and fast enough to make an ACC school punt with regularity. Especially one with such a shaky QB situation. That's all our offense needs.Make no mistake about it, this will be no cake walk. But I think 5th year senior Luke Getsy gets the nod in this one. If we can strike early and take the crowd out of it, and force NC State to throw...I think we're in great shape.Despite what Terry Pluto scribed in predicting the poor little Zips would be beaten up by the big, bad Nittany Lions...it didn't happen. We're as healthy as can be for this game.My prediction: Zips 29-NC State 28 NC State misses a 39 yard field goal as time expires. Pull down the goal posts. The crowd at Johnny Malloy's goes wild.

I like the Zips in this one, as a side note, the line on the game came out Monday with the Zips a 17 point underdog, now it is down to ten, looks like some people are starting to notice Akron's ability.
It was always 10 on my board.Do you know how much money would have to be placed on a team to make a 7 point swing :blink:I have never seen a Zips line change more than a point or two.

Everyones talking about NC State's defense. Their defense is nothing compared to Penn State.
Not here to flame, but I am curious why you think our D is nothing compared to Penn St? We don't have much to go on yet, as we're only one game into the season, and State's only opponent was a DII team that NC State held to 133 total yds (2-14 on 3rd down), 2.3 yds per play and 10 points (all coming from turnovers). Since the game wasn't televised, what makes you think our D isn't good since you have not seen it? If anything, all you can say is no one knows what the D will be like against a quality opponent. If you're going off recent history, NC State's D was ranked 8th last year (Penn St was 12th) and #1 in the nation the year before (Penn St was #10).So why do you think the D can't compare to Penn St; or are you just making a claim with nothing to back it up? I'm not saying Penn St doesn't have a good D, but if anything, ours is an unknown at this point. Our passing offense is what concerns me, not the D.Looking forward to the game Sat.; hope it's a good one

NoVa,Nobody on this board makes unfounded predictions. In fact, a prerequisite for making predictions on this board is submission of each participant’s statistical forecasting model to the board’s forecasting model oversight committee. Only after the committee has subjected a model to rigorous testing is one allowed to post their prediction. The highest rating awarded to NCST’s defense by any of the approved models is 27th in the nation (most models have them much lower). PSU’s defense, on the other hand, has an average rating of 14th. The difference is equal to over 100 yards in total offense and 10 points allowed. My prediction is Akron 27 NCST 21. Akron wins with last possession kept alive by two critical penalties against NCST: one on an NCST cornerback, and the other on the NCST bench.

In all seriousness, I don't know much about Akron's team; how good are your receivers?  Word just came out that State's best corner (IMO) will be out for the game with a hamstring injury.  Starting Center will be out as well; how's your DL looking this year?
Our receivers look decent so far. A good QB can make good receivers. We have a GOOD QB.Jabari (#12) is 6'4" and a solid 225. His size can be an advantage over smaller DBs.We have a true freshman, Harvey (#2) that seems to be a crisp route runner with good hands. One thing you should watch is our Tight ends. Both are above average receivers. Our running back, Kennedy (#3) has good hands out of the backfield also. Our offense is solid and will give you a challenge. Our D line has always been a weak spot. But after one game this season, for the first time since I have followed the Zips, it might be a strength.Akron plays a 3-5-3 defense because JD believes it easier to get more linebacker types (6'2" 230 lb guys.)That is the reason for the 3-5-3. West Virginia also plays this defense.Good luck to you :thumb:

thanks for the info. I hear you regarding a good QB; we've struggled to find one since Rivers left and our record reflects that. I felt bad for our senior WR's the last 2 years; all of them were talented but rarely had a good pass thrown their way.Hearing about your TE's worries me; most of our LB's are new starters so I'm not sure how well they can cover if they find themselves matched up on a TE. Our safeties are all very good, so maybe they can help out some, but with a starting corner out they'll probably have their hands full already. Our TE is very good as well, but we need someone who can actually pass to him.looking forward to the game; hope it's injury free for both sides
