2016 recruiting

Recommended Posts

TennZip,

Does Akron have anyone else ranked in the top 150?

Sabbi is #21 ; Hinds is #19; Jesus Perez is #129. However , those rankings were done in September. Emmanuel Sabbi would be much higher if the rankings were done now. I had seen another ranking in the fall that had Emmanuel Sabbi at #13. When I was out in Kansas City for the college cup, Phil, a great zips soccer fan from the Youngstown area, said he had seen a ranking that had Emmanuel Sabbi at #1.

Having 2 recruits on the under 20 team is very impressive.

However, they do not rank non US players. Marcel Zajac and Reggie Laryea from Canada are both expected to contribute. Reggie Laryea and Nicholas Hinds are both defenders. Andrew Souders will be missed much but hopefully the recruits will lessen that loss. Hopefully, the goalkeeper from australia will also be a key contributor next year. Obviously, the zips still need a great student and very talented soccer player and a nice young man (Adam Najem) to come back to lead the zips to a 2nd star.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like things are getting better with this class by the day. By the way it was good seeing you in VA, Akron and Kansas City this year. That Phil guy is a good guy

great seeing you at VCU, Akron and KC. Just sent you a message via zips nation messaging.

When top drawer soccer showed the IMG top 150 rankings on September 29th, Emmanuel Sabbi was #21 and Nicholas Hinds was #19.

Really looking forward to 2016 zips soccer. This is shaping up to be Coach Embick's best recruiting class. I know that Wistrcil received a lot of grief during his tenure but his hire of Jared Embick and the 3 year extension...have to be tremendous highlights for Wistrcil's tenure.

Hiring Jared as Caleb's replacement was the highlight of TW's tenure. Jared knows the game and is completely committed to Akron's maintaining it's position at or near the top of NCAA D1 Mens Soccer. Our 2015 schedule. so successfully navigating through it, and getting to the College Cup was a huge statement to others of how great our program remains under our current head coach. Couple that with our close ties to an MLS Club that won the 2015 MLS Cup in our backyard and what a great storyline you get for recruiting top players.

By the way...

2015 Was A Season To Remember At These Schools

Akron - The Zips had an outstanding season in 2015 during which they had an 18-3-3 overall record and advanced to the College Cup for the first time since 2010. Akron won both the MAC regular season and tournament titles. They were awarded the number four seed in the NCAA Tournament and then topped Rutgers, SMU and Creighton to advance to the Final Four where their season came to an end when fell to eventual national champion Stanford 8 to 7 in a penalty kick shootout after the game was tied 0-0 at the end of 110 minutes of play. Junior midfieder Adam Najem was named an All-American by both the NSCAA and College Soccer News. Najem, sophomores Sam Gainford, Stuart Holthusen, Richie Laryea and junior Brad Rhaak and senior Andrew Souders were named to the All-MAC First Team. Akron along with Indiana, Maryland, UCLA and Virginia are the only five teams to have earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the past nine seasons. Akron is 48-13-6 in the three seasons that Jared Embick has been the head coach of the program.

Thanks @TennZip for the updated recruiting information. With the losses of Andrew Souders (Sr), Sean Sepe (Sr), Jake Fenlason (Sr), Richie Layrea (Gen Adidas), and not knowing the status of Adam Najem's return, every top player we add raises my expectations for 2016. I try to get to know our players during the year by talking with them after matches at home and on the road. I'm happy for them when they get to move on and take that next step toward fulfilling their dreams. But, at the same time, I want to see the Zips compete for a National Championship again, like every Zips' fan. It's tough balancing emotions sometimes. I know we still have many talented players, but replacing 4 or 5 starters is always tough as we all know it takes time for a team to gel.

Adding Nicholas Hinds and Jon Lewis takes this from a very good 2016 recruiting class to a great 2016 recruiting class.

I hope this all becomes official news.

looks like Feb. 3rd is the day that hopefully...everything becomes official

just saw this on Travis Clark's twitter

.@SoundersAcademy's @nickhinds_11 is now committed to @ZipsMSoc for this fall.

I googled Nick hinds...and found this post on his twitter account

CY4eMCMWMAAWoJs.jpg

I see nothing anywhere indicating that Nicholas Hinds has switched his commitment from UNC to Akron.

Jon Lewis is a fine addition, but Nick Hinds would be a program changer.

Anything else on either of these guys?

Hinds twitter profile has Akron '20. Which I would take as he starts school in 2016 he would be graduating in 2020 (assuming he stayed all 4 years).

Good stuff! Keep it coming! Trying to get as much as possible on this kid. Fabulous talent! I really hope this is true. TDS still shows him committed to UNC.

@#10 Adam Najem

US U-20s 3, Weston Select 0

Goals: 10’ Emmanuel Sabbi; 40’ Eryk Williamson (Danilo Acosta); 54’ Eryk Williamson

USA U-20 Lineup (4-3-3): Jonathan Klinsmann (Mason Stajduhar, 45) — Malcolm Jones, Miles Robinson, Tommy Redding (Hugo Arellano, 57), Diego Silva — Eryk Williamson (Juan Flores, 61), Danilo Acosta, Jackson Yueill (Martin Salas, 56) — Emmanuel Sabbi-CAPT (Jeremy Ebobisse, 71), Josh Perez (Abu Winter, 45), Victor Mansaray (Evan Waldrep, 83)

The list of US Youth National Team (U-16 thru U-20) Captains who have gone on to become Akron Zips: Gavin, Kitchen, Trapp, Souders, now Sabbi. There may have been more -- Ampaipitakwon, Barson, Sarkodie?... In any case, it's a pretty impressive list of Akron recruits since 2006! Now we need another star.

Anybody have the inside scoop on the spring schedule?

I'm interested in the FALL schedule! With all the Seattle and Portland kids joining, I'm looking forward to a trip to the Pac Northwest! Can we do that along with a visit to SoCal (@UCLA?) I'd rather delay the Cal trip if possible, unless there's a multi-game sched in L.A.

Don't know the details, but I heard that there is a 2-game SoCal trip on the 2016 schedule. My guess is UCLA + ? CSUN or Cal Poly SLO would be ok.

http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer-articles/2016-boys-img-academy-150-final-update_aid38748

this main article is free on top drawer soccer...
you have to be a premium member to see the list of 150
they have added the two Akron recruits from Canada to the list
Emmanuel Sabbi moved up from #21 in the rankings to #12 in the rankings
However, it would be very misleading to say that top drawer soccer thinks that Emmanuel Sabbi is the 12th best player entering college soccer next year.
None of the top 8 ranked players are shown as going to college.   The #4 ranked athlete is Benjamin Swanson, a midfielder from Grove City, OH.  Swanson signed with the columbus Crew when he was a high school junior.  The #7 player is a defender from PA and he has already signed with a pro team in England.   I think that the 9th and 11th ranked players have announced a college choice so Emmanuel Sabbi is actually the 3rd highest ranked player to announce a college commitment for fall 2016.

With homegrown contracts, most of the top 10 ranked players look like they will bypass college
they no longer show Nicholas Hinds as a UNC recruit...they list him as an Akron recruit...he was 19th in last ranking...now #20 in the final ranking
Reggie Laryea shows up as #37 in their rankings...they list him as a midfielder...
Marcel Zajac shows up as #116 in the rankings...they show him as a midfielder...
Jesus Perez was 129 in the previous ranking....shows up as 136 in this ranking

I am very encouraged by this article.   Jared Embick and his staff always work very hard in recruiting and Akron's aggressive attacking style was obviously very attractive to this group of future student athletes.   It looks like this list has mostly American soccer players...with some Canadians on the list.  The Australian goalkeeper (that Travis Clark had identified as an Akron commit) is not eligible for  this list of 150.  I also did not see Jon Lewis's name on the list of 150 although he sounds like an outstanding soccer player.

Looking forward to hopefully learning more about these young men on or around signing day (Feb. 3rd).   Looking forward to spring and fall 2016.  Keep up the good work, Coach Embick.
