ZippyRulz
Unfortunately, I think it became an afterthought when the final whistle blew yesterday. "Won MLS Cup 3 years after taking over Portland Timbers. Also won NCAA Championship at Akron."I agree with this. Sorry to burst bubbles. kreed5120
I feel I'm the only Zip here that was cheering for the Crew, however, Portland is my 2nd favorite team. Edited December 8, 2015 by kreed5120

Without Ohio, Portland would not have won the MLS Cup.
fknbuflobo
Nah.Bruce Arena coached DC United to 2 MLS Championships (and several other trophies), coached the USMNT through 3 World Cups, coached LA Galaxy to 2 MLS Championships (and other trophies). It is still mentioned on TV Broadcasts that Bruce Arena won 5 NCAA titles with University of Virginia. The last of which was 20 years ago. His NCAA championships will never be forgotten in soccer circles. And Virginia has won it all twice since Arena left (as we well know) under George Gelnovitch. But nobody in Virginia has forgotten Bruce Arena. So let it be with Caleb Porter. His contribution to Zips soccer will never be forgotten by locals, or by nationals. But he has moved on to other success. And so have we. Jared Embick's team has it all in front of them. These current Zips are worthy of the College Cup and just as likely to win it as any of these other squads.

Only time will tell. Now is definitely not the time to be "Debbie Downer". We just had a great soccer weekend in Ohio. I'm looking forward to an even better one in Kansas City. GO ZIPS! MDZip
Shout out by the Congressman representing Portland on the House Floor. One thing I don't understand about the MLS playoffs is why they play a two game series leading up to the finals but only a single finals game? Anyone know? Extra games in the earlier rounds means more ticket, concessions, merchandise, and parking revenue. They then are still able to market their championship game as winner take all must see TV. Garber, the commish, will say it is so all fans get rewarded with a guaranteed home playoff game. Personally I'd like to see single game elimination throughout. Personally I'd like to see single game elimination throughout.I would love to dump on Don Garber as well, as he is one of my least fave figures. However, I'm pretty sure the UCL, i.e., European Champions League (why does Europe get abbreviated with a 'U'?) employs the same scheduling strategy, using two-legged ties until the final of the knock-out rounds. I like that practice, as it gives each side a better opportunity to advance, yet creates the excitement of a winner-take-all championship -- but, I don't think there has ever been a Champions League final played on a home field. MLS should avoid that, despite the Crew laying an egg at home. Edited December 16, 2015 by Z.I.P.
