zipsoutsider Posted April 9, 2016 Report Posted April 9, 2016 We can thank Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh for this. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/15162704/ncaa-bans-satellite-camps-effective-immediately Quote
Buckzip Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 You would be half wrong. Meyer only did them to keep up and he thinks this is terrible because of the smaller kids that won't get to be seen. The larger named kids will always be seen but it is the smaller kids that are really hurt by this. Harbaugh was the one that went to major schools in Florida and had a camp. He created the issue even though most on here will not agree because the hatred is bigger than their ability to be rational when it comes to certain things. Quote

I don't hate Urban Meyer or OSU, I just believe he contributed to it by jumping on the bandwagon. Quote

As a matter if fact, he is 100% right when he said, " "The biggest thing that I didn't realize was part of it is that now the MAC Schools can't come here," Meyer said. "Probably hundreds of scholarships have come out of here to those young players and I know my son is getting recruited a little bit, and it's like, what camps do you send them to?" "But now Bowling Green didn't get a chance to watch them play. It's no hit â When I was at Bowling Green, I'd come to Ohio State's camp because you get to see all these great players. So I didn't realize that was part of the conversation. I wish they would revisit part of it." http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/ohio-state-buckeyes-urban-meyer-ncaa-texting-rules-041116 I also agree with his remarks in texting. The fact is that the ruling hurts MAC schools. Quote

They were discussing this today on Mike and Mike. They said Mac schools attend these camps that Ohio State and other big ten schools put on. That it hurts kids by not giving them a single place to "shop" universities, as well as the G5 schools are not going to take everybody, so it allows the MAC to scout the talent and take the kids that get passed on. Steve1982 Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 Could it also be detrimental to kids that economically can't make unofficial visits outside of there immediate area? Quote

I wasn't really talking about you. There are a few here it applies to. I agree about the band wagon part but you have to keep up with the Joneses. The ones that started it are the real issue IMO. This hurts the MAC and other smaller conferences the most along with the lower rated players. Just another stupid move by the NCAA. Quote

Absolutely. I think these camps can be a real opportunity where kids have realization that Power 5 schools are not going to give them a look and that a G5 school will be a better option. They might have either the funds or means to get to Akron for a visit. College sports can be a way out of generational poverty for some kids and this seems like a very poorly conceived rule. Honestly, I think it's time to get some diversity into group of people who make these rules. Quote
