Buckzip
No one cares. Minnesota and Wisci are both irrelevant football programs. They should stay on their own board.

skip-zip
I must admit, I've seen a few people on here over the years point to our 21-3 loss to Penn State in 2014 as some sort of accomplishment, and I've never bought that one. Agreed. LSU can have all of the recruiting stars they want, but that offense outside of Fournette SUCKS. There's a reason why Les is on the hot seat every year. But, if he's better than the starting QB that a premier SEC team can put on the field, I will be more than pleasantly surprised.

Perhaps you weren't at that game. Happy Valley was nearly silent until the middle of Q4. We did not give them any breathing room and that was with a fairly ineffective Zips offensive unit. 16 minutes ago, skip-zip said: I love Tommy. Last year I would have agreed with you, but I thought his patience, decision-making, and accuracy were on par with the best in the country last week. He put the ball in some tough spots and has really done an excellent job protecting the ball. I remember reading the Tommy and the receivers were working on their timing in the off-season and I thought it looked great on Saturday. With his size, speed, and athletic ability, Jerome Lane can compete with anyone in the NCAA and Tommy is putting the ball where it needs to be for Jerome to make plays. Quote "...There’s times where you’ll be in one-on-one situations — we gotta make plays when we do.” - Chryst If we can capitalize on those situations, we can win this game. Teams can no longer put most of their energy into shutting down Lane without paying the price, thanks to Natson and Wolf. It was also nice to see Warren Ball catch passes nicely - it gives us yet, another threat. On a side note, Kish was the TE, not MTB last week - any news on that? Are you sure about this? I distinctly remember seeing MTB out there as well as Newman Williams in some 2 TE sets. I was disappointed in the lack of usage of MTB in the passing game, but maybe the hand just wasnt being shown. I thought I saw him too. Maybe he just wasn't used in this game. But as I've said before, I was puzzled by the move. He's another potential big-play guy on the outside. I just don't think that the tendencies of this offense are suddenly going to change. I expect that he will be horribly underutilized, but hope I am surprised. I think MTB had the opportunity to develop into a big play threat and everyone hoped he would but it never seemed to materialize. I like that they found a way to repurpose him. *Edit: Box Score shows Christian Allen as the starter and that MTB participated. It does not show participation by Newman Williams. It does show participation by #97, Brennan Williams. Edited September 6, 2016 by zipsoutsider
Buckzip
I'm hoping the position switch is to utilize him more and better. It just didn't happen last week. Hoping this isn't a pattern.
K92
I wondered how long it would be until someone brought up MTB. Longer than I thought, actually.
LZIp
Meh I definitely saw Newman Williams out there, unless somebody else was wearing #35 at TE on offense. I wonder if we'll get Jordan George back this week? Edited September 6, 2016 by LZIp
UA1987
I do not like these money games. I'd rather have better contracts with surmountable obstacles and play the Wisconsin's at the end of the year in a good paying bowl on a neutral site. That saying, my hope is that we play to win. LZIp
I love the money games. It gives our program a chance to play on a national stage, which i guarantee our players love, and the chance to grow interest as well as help pay the bills.

MTB and Newman Williams were both in. They were switching back and forth playing the H/TE back (off the line of scrimmage), blocking for a QB that threw for over 400 yards, and a running back that ran for over 100 yards. Below is MTB coming in, and Newman checking out.

I often compare it to the OSWho game in 2007, when we trailed 3-2 at halftime, and were still within a score up until near the end of the 3rd quarter. The only major difference might be that the Suckeyes were #12, and Penn State wasn't ranked. And of course, the major similarity was that we could not score in either game. Regardless, I never saw either game as something you could hold up and brag about to any college football audience. You might be able to benefit from some internal moral boost for your defense from playing well. Or maybe some sense of encouragement in a conversation among Zips fans. But, it doesn't mean squat to anyone else beyond that. People are still going to laugh at Akron for losing by 18 to a Big 10 school. They don't care about the details. skip-zip
You want something that might hold some water with Wisconsin fans in particular, if they are underestimating us ? The game at Camp Randal in 2003, where the Zips were stopped inches from the goal line with 6 minutes left, in which we would have taken the LEAD in the contest. In fact, Charlies says that "we would have won the game". http://www.espn.co.uk/college-football/recap?gameId=232490275
