Zip_ME87
Is it University of Akron policy to allow umbrellas during game action? Fortunately last night the rain stopped just as the game was getting started. However, I saw umbrellas still raised for the first few plays until the rain completely stopped. I go to football games to watch football, not the umbrella in front of me. If the fans want to stay dry, then they should bring ponchos or rain suits. The big D-1A schools do not allow umbrellas during play. Perhaps this is a sign that UA has no interest in being a big D-1A school? Or perhaps, there is a policy against umbrellas during play, but I didn't see any of the ushers enforce it.
RUMPLEMINTZ
stop your bitchin dude!!!! that's just typical of the zips fans (all three of them)! you should be bitchin about the fact no one showed up to the game. if the bands were not there it would have looked worse. your a clown dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm frustrated with the showing also, especially after how well we showed at the MACC and the MCB. But that's no reason to start talkin smack....those of us on here are the loyal ones.GO ZIPS!!! PAZipsFan
Okay.... I don't know what UA policy is, but I don't think umbrellas should be admissable either. It's just plain disrepectful to anyone sitting behind you, next to you, etc. Wear a poncho if you're that worried about a few raindrops. Or take your umbrellas and sit all the way in the back. D-IAA Youngstown State doesn't allow umbrellas, and everybody there still lived to tell about it last night despite a few raindrops.
Kangaroo Craig
The NFL does not allow umbrellas at their games. At Cleveland Browns stadium the choice is a hooded jacket, a poncho, or nothing.
ziptrumpet87
The sign at the entrances showing what was not allowed in the stadium had umbrellas taped over. I suspect that they would rather people have to spread out to see around people with umbrellas rather than not attend.
Captain Kangaroo
If the stadium is 1/2 empty, umbrellas should be allowed. If you can't see, move a foot left or right. There's plenty of space. At a sold-out Browns or Indians game - no umbrellas.
BigCountry
Is anyone else not upset with the attendance there last night? It was rainy and gross, we had just been upset by cmu and we had 16000 there. Granted it looked like more with the endzone closed off, but 16000 is a good number. It looked fuller than I can remember in my last 5 years here. Especially the student side... it was packed.A stadium on campus would increase that number easily, there would have been 20-25k if people could walk there. Everyone needs to chill out and enjoy a solid crushing over a lesser opponent.Beat Can't next week
Sergeant Zip
Everyone needs to chill out and enjoy a solid crushing over a lesser opponent.Beat Can't next week I agree, I don't think we should be a prozac nation but let's worry about this later in the season if we have to. We should be celebrating... For those of you who want to continue to worry the whole season and get an ulcer:5 home games need 15,000 average so that is 75,00075,000-16,01158,989 left to bring in minimum

That's great logic. If umbrellas are allowed and the stadium happened to be full (like we all want it to be), to where would I move?Personally, if I'm going to have my view blocked, I would prefer that it were blocked by the AK-Rowdies standing in front of me. I'd feel good about standing if it was because the Real Fans were standing and cheering in front of me...rather than weenies with huge umbrellas. bobbyake
Let's not call them weenies, barely any of them showed up for the NTU game, I must admit that I was very disappointed with the Zips Alumni. I don't blame them for sitting though, a lot of them have their families with them.We need more Alumni to the games. I'm trying to do my part as a student to get my fellow students to the games, if the weather stays good for Oct 21, I hope we'll have a bigger student section. RACER
the attendance problems- playing your first home game after being 1-2 is not going to get the casual fan out.the nc state win was great ,but we still were 1-2. when we played Can't first game of the year we packed the place. im not saying it has to be Can't. we need a home game week one,or two.plus i think the forcast looked pretty sad,and people might have just decided to stay home and watch osu.i was surprised there were 16,000 fans there. Lone Zip in Col
After reading several of these posts this has become Prozac nation. Several are already suggesting a loss to Can't before the game is played as well as the NCAA dropping us from division IA status. Maybe I took too many half glass full pills today but we're fielding a pretty good team. There is little debate that our defense is vastly improved and playing at a high level. The offense is not so bad either. Didn't our offense score more points against Penn State at their house than OSU at home in similar weather conditions. At least 2 OSU TD's were interceptions that were taken all the way back.As far as the death sentense to Div IAA. It will not happen even if only 16,000 show up the entire year. We won the MAC last year, sold out our alotted tickets for the MCB, beat a BCS team this year and the University is making serious efforts to bring an on campus stadium within 3 years that will solve the attendence problem. Our real concern should be the City Health Department shutting down the Rubber Bowl before the move. Darn, now I have to take another glass half full pill. Zip_ME87
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like "Prozac Nation". I, too, was disappointed in the attendance. I almost didn't make it myself because I was stuck in Denver Friday night due 1st to bad weather in Chicago and then our pilot being up too long that day. When they cancelled my flight, I was very lucky to get on the 10 am non-stop to Cleveland on Saturday and arrived at Hopkins a little after 3 pm. I was tempted to stay home, but did not. I arrived at the game just after the band took the field.
Lone Zip in Col
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like "Prozac Nation".That comment was not meant to be directed towards you. It was directed to those who give the vibe that something very negative is going to happen that I've seen even after a convincing win yesterday. I love that fact that there are those who care enough to be upset. As I said in a previous post, when I attended to U in the 90's it was known as Apathy U. I never want to go back to those days. Perhaps many of us on this board fear we may go back to those days and that is understandable. Sort of like those that went through the Depression Era always having the fear that no matter how well off they are now, they may lose everything in a moments time. However, there is so much more to be positive about. Beat CAN'T and go ZIPS.

It's a rivalry game...those are when you play your best. GO ZIPS!
