Akron hosts Washington on Friday .

The Zips began the season with tough 1-0 on the road losses to Utah Valley and Denver.  Akron played well but was unable to come up with the big plays they needed on the offensive side of the ball to prevail.

Washington will arrive in  Akron with a 2-0-0 recored after securing a 2-1 win over New Mexico and a 2-0 win over Loyola Marymount. Akron's back is to the wall as they seek to get into the win column, prevent a three loss start, and remain in the national rankings. A win over Akron would be a nice resume builder and huge confidence builder for Washington as well.  This key early season contest should be a dandy.

question and comment - does Mark "Munch" Bishop know much about soccer?   Robbie D. and Steve F....did great work last year

Hopefully the ZIps draw a decent crowd. This match up deserves it.

Good Q!  I see that he's a Cleveland area sports honk, and a tOSU honk to boot!  Let's cross our fingers.

Akron U. mens soccer continues to be under-promoted and under appreciated

But hey, they have wall-to-wall coverage of the Browns and Indians, who....play in Cleveland!  Of course, the Beacon feels they need to "fill the void" by duplicating the efforts of the Plain Dealer.  I mean, why write something nice about a team that they could literally look out their windows northeasterly and see play!

The Huskies only SOG was about min #2.  43 minutes without a look at goal.  Akron dominated half no. 1, but could only put one shot away.  We need more scorers.

Great, complete game by the Zips. Happy to see Stuart Holthusen and Sam Gainford both score on a night that their families (from New Zealand and England) were in attendance. Mark Hothusen was among the AK-Rowdies on the hill when Stuart scored. From his recount, he wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else! Good turnout by the Rowdies and students last night. Good job!

It was great to see Lundt rebound with an air tight performance.

Also, looks like Embick found his back line of choice. They looked really connected all game and Strachan seems comfortable back there. Good stuff!

Impressive Victory!

Joao Moutinho #2 continues to shine from the back line at CB.  He is officially my favorite Zip.  He has a good all round game, with a bit of nasty.  His potential is limitless.

Daniel Strachan #25 was surprisingly proficient at CB as well.

Joao is quickly becoming my favorite Zip.  Reminds me of Victor as he brings some attitude to this team.  Watched a little of the ESPN broadcast this morning and heard Jared say he was brought in as a left back for after Niko graduates.  That explains his runs he likes to make out of the center back position!

Joao is very decisive when he takes any risk.   If he surges forward, he does so with pace and conviction.  We have not seen that here since Zarek Valentin.  I doubt Zips coaching staff is totally cool with that, BTW.  Not from CB.  And when Joao decides a play is over, it is over!  There is either a change in posseion or a foul.

❤️ Joao!

Yeah, but don't forget De Vera....what jets that kid has.  And his change-of-pace during a run from the back is phenomenal...and when it comes to attitude, The Enforcer last night was Ezana!  Holthuzen could have had 2 more goals last night, IMO.  The Zips looked so much more comfortable and inspired last night...more so than at UVS.  It's gonna take the a few matches to work the new guys in.  Hinds seems lost in the shuffle.

Munch-Bishop sure likes to hear himself talk...but seemed to know his stuff, and having former Zip coach Oliver Slawson as his color man was a great last minute addition...Mark should have let Oliver talk more.  Slawson's Ashland Golden Eagles got off to a solid 3-nil win over Malone to start....sorry malonepioneer12   !!

I just noticed the attendance for this game was 1,987 and that seemed low to me so I went back to last season to compare. All but the last two regular season home matches, one of which was a midweek afternoon match, were higher than this match. Not a good sign for the home opener against a top 25 team from the Pac-12.

0-2 start, competing with Friday night high school football.  Turnout could have been worse in my opinion.

It was also Labor Day weekend...but I also noticed a lot of unsold season ticket seats available.

The university does very little to promote Mens Soccer these days.

Totally agree.  There are still the video boards on I-77 and I-76 that show GameDay info, but even at the other sporting events, they don't do  good job of keeping casual fans up-to-date on upcoming MSOC, WSOC or VB matches in the near future.
