Boca Raton Bowl–Zips @ Owls

I mean fair argument, but FAU has a a few more wins and the conference championship. The point differential stands out between the two teams when I just look at the matchup.

Fellow Conference USA team fans doubted us all year leading up to matchups, and I think that’s why FAU fans maybe are a little defensive.

If Akron beats FAU I will be the first fan to come on here and let y’all tell me you were right.

FWIW Sunbelt GA State is taking it to CUSA Western Kentucky right now as well. Sun Belt Arkansas State is also taking on CUSA MTSU later tonight. I think the question that the CUSA may be pretty weak is a valid one that will be revealed as these games play out. How much it takes away from FAU is TBD and we'll find out Tuesday, though them averaging wins in the conference by 21points is impressive no matter how good the competition is.

The point differential doesn't mean anything if one team plays good teams and the other plays bad.  Just saying.

Truth. Maybe he should look at how we have played against the spread, all year. Any team can look great if they player lesser talent all year. I think half of the MAC could beat North Texas.

But Cykron, IMHO, has been a very gracious guest here...(and since he granted me the first official invite to ISU tailgate next year, it really isn’t kissing up)!  BTW, saw your brother-in-law and KV last night at a HS b-ball game...

Thanks.  Some mixture of gracious guest, tailgate host, and kiss-up.  Yep, that's me.   Except you forgot to mention the clever wit and keen football insight.  ;)

Bummer that Buffalo didn't get to play in a bowl this year, but it does take a lot of travel stress out of the holidays for us . . . hopefully just for this year.  Next year >>>>>  :champs:

Here is some analysis from my perspective:

The Iowa State/Oklahoma "rivalry" is the most-lopsided in college football history.   Look it up.  It is really sad.  The last time Iowa State has beaten its conference foe Oklahoma in Ames . . . wait for it . . . JFK was President!  That's 1961!

Iowa State was a 31 point underdog to Oklahoma this year . . . and we know how that one turned out . . . and it was no fluke . . . we out-played them in Norman, Oklahoma . . . and then outplayed TCU a few weeks later . . . with a walk-on QB from Massillion, Ohio!

Which do you think is more unlikely?  Iowa State beating Oklahoma in Norman?  Or Akron beating FAU in Boca?  Even after our game in Akron this year, almost no Iowa State fan would have bet on us beating Oklahoma before you beat FAU.  But, it happened.

And Kato doesn't even have to outplay a Heisman Trophy winner!

Akron may be the game-changer for Bowl Confidence Picks games across the country!

Lol whats your point that half the MAC could beat UNT? FAU did twice and outscored them by 68 points. UNT was in the weaker half of C-USA and won few one score games with Rice and UTEP being in their division. Ultimately Akron only beat one team with a winning record. So you keep telling me FAU has beaten anyone, but who have you really beaten?

Point differential does matter when its:

FAU +203

Akron -35

It says a lot how good your team really is

It is also tough to get by the fact were one of the best rushing teams in the country, and your one of the worst.

Like I keep saying if you upset FAU I will be the first to congratulate you on here.

What kind of inferiority complex must a fanbase have to have to come on the Akron board and tell us how much better your team is. There's a reason FAU is a 22 point favorite. It would be a surprise to most of the nation if we win. We'll see on Tuesday. Go Zips.

That's fair to compare our competition vs. their competition.  And I'd say there's at least a few teams that we played this year that are better than anyone they played in their league.

Hopefully that difference makes us better prepared.

There isn’t an inferiority complex. I’m just making a counter point to his point.

Some random quotes from the weekend.

Andrew Hauser on stopping FAU's rushing attack... "We?ve stressed a lot about their running back, they have a really, really good running back. As long as we tackle him and play our gaps, we?ll be ready. We?ll be just fine on the defensive side of the ball."

FAU Linebacker Rashad Smith on being named "Most Improved"... "It means a lot. I come in everyday and work. Just striving to be the best. I'm a way better player than last year...definitely because I'm more comfortable on the field."

Coach Terry Bowden on playing in South Florida... "You can go a lot of places to play, but you can't go anywhere better than South Florida. With 31 of our athletes being from Florida, 11 being from an hour around here , it's a homecoming for this game"

Kyron Brown on playing in his hometown... "No pressure... it actually makes me feel a lot better. I'm so comfortable playing in front of family, so it makes it a lot better."

Lane Kiffin on the durability of Jalen Young... "For whatever reason he gets banged up a lot...He's not really a big guy, he has more of a corner body, but because he plays so hard and he's so physical, obviously has great ball skills, he's just a really good player."

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) —

There is no question that the FAU Owls will have a distinct home field advantage in Tuesday's Boca Raton Bowl - they're playing it in their home stadium. But for a number of Akron Zips, it does not feel quite as foreign as you might think.

Certainly, the weather this feels a lot different than Northeast Ohio, but 28 of the Akron players are Florida natives, so Saturday's beach day - an annual event for all the Boca Bowl competitors, wasn't a first time experience for all of their players. In fact, the Florida natives got quite a kick out of the guys from Ohio, losing their minds at the beautiful weather. A pair of Zips hail from Palm Beach County (Boynton Beach's Kyron Brown and American Heritage grad Josh Ward) and they're relishing this opportunity to be back home and be playing FAU.

The Owls had their own beach day, but for them it was going fishing off of the Benny's at the Beach pier in Lake Worth.

The Owls are staying in the Boca Raton Resort this weekend, not their usual student housing, so they are getting a bowl experience in their own backyard. But more than fun, they want their first bowl win since 2008.
