Julian Hicks scippio & McGriff finish 8 man rotation different formations have different personel Who are going to be listed on the two deep for our three defensive down lineman? It's supposed to look like DE NT DE in a three four, but I'm not seeing Sampson at 210 lbs. playing one of those ends (weak side) much except to rattle the opposing QB on passing downs. Do we put the big men at these positions: Cross, Mitchell, Jest, Hawkins, Brimage and Jean-Baptiste to take on the offensive lineman and let the LB's make plays, and then work in our light fast D/E's (Ward, Sampson, and Meeks) when the situation calls for it? On another note, will the coaches move Eric Bentley to the DL as a 2020 move because Jest and Jean-Baptiste are Seniors in 2019 (maybe Bentley is our back up center - not sure - I've seen him on a depth chart as a starting guard?)? Lastly, was it Neeley that the coaches were thinking of moving to the defensive line? At 6'5" I'd think he'd make a better O-lineman candidate, but can't tell where team needs and his strengths and interests lie. The way I understand the defense it is not a strict typical 3-4, depends on down and situation, Can be a 4-3 in some situations, Sampson & Ward can stand up or finger down. They moved Meeks back to defensive line, all state HS linebacker but big enough to play that down DE, not sure exactly, can’t wait to see I understand RB is a serious concern & QB & WR’s may be busy on Saturdays
Blue & Gold
I can't carry a lengthy conversation concerning the 3-4, but I'd think Ward & Meeks are big enough to be every-down DE's. Josh Ward: 6-2, 225 Dylan Meeks: 6-2, 240 Michael Scott, listed at LB, is also big enough to play DE (6-3, 235). Sampson may be relegated to a 3rd down pass rush specialist at 6-2, 210 (Justin was an extremely good high school WR & that's where I thought he'd play at UA.) I like the beef we now have at DT Davon'te Jest: 6-1, 300 Logan Hawkins, 6-2, 295 Andy Jean-Baptiste: 6-5, 275 & JUCO newcomer John Mitchell: 6-3, 300 Edited July 27, 2019 by Blue & Gold
John Ward
Looks like a lot of position changes this year. I was looking at the roster and noticed we have a bunch of RBs and a fullback Will we be using a fullback ? I thought most of the offense was spread oriented. I would love to see the power I .Since RB is such a concern this year is there a possibility of the younger RBs getting playing time.? I'm sure the coaches are planning to utilize Meeks, Ward, and Sampson heavily as they all have too much to offer to sit the bench. They will be used in speed rush situations and in some 4-3 packages per 94Zipgrad (maybe some 3-4 too we'll have to watch - part of the fun). All of these lineman better keep their heads in the game as it looks like there will be people running on and off the field in different defenses, which is good as it will force opposing offenses to adjust. I had forgotten about him. Too much to keep straight. Yeah, hopefully he's on the field this year! [edit]: FWIW, his twitter bio says "Akron Football Commit," and he retweeted something just a couple days ago, so the account is current. Hopefully just some requirement associated with the timing of applying for admission to fall classes and when the list is released. I think I've seen this in prior years. LZIp
Training Camp media guide: https://gozips.com/documents/2019/7/31/2019_Akron_FB_Media_Guide_ALL.pdf?id=13871 Don't see any of the Indy CC commits included or anyone else that would be a surprise. Looks like we lost Rich Hall and Malik Wooldridge (which 94zipgrad alluded to before).

LZIp
Our roster is updated with the JUCO newcomers. Cross and Mitchell from Indy CC. Harris who we've seen some of on twitter. A new one is DeCavilon Reese, a RB from Benedictine. Originally had offers to Marshall, Toledo, and Miami (OH) out of HS.

LZIp
Sh!t. At least we have depth at WR and he should be able to get a 6th year. Did we ever find out if Hicks is immediately eligible?
