Z.I.P. Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 The 2007 schedule is not yet complete, but I can give you a hint. Akron will again play one of the most demanding schedules in the country. The schedule is highlighted by a total of four games (three regular season, one exhibition) versus Big-10 teams, and a trip to the ACC to play two of the nation's premier college soccer programs.Oh, and did I say -- the Suckeyes are coming!?Here's to coach Porter for getting a real workout for his up and coming Zip futbollers. No reason we can't be #1 again this year. Let's make it at the end of the season this time! Quote
72 Roo Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Z.I.P.,Quietly the soccer program is working on a new stadium also. It would be moved to run north -south rather than east -west as it currently does. If you can imagine, it would run across the current field toward the student center. That would give more room on either side for seating and, hopefully, some amenities for the team such as locker rooms, storage, referee rooms, etc. It would seat between 3500 - 5000. Caleb has shown what everyone thought, the dude can recruit. Now if he can grow as a coach and get a new facility, we truly are a threat to be #1 in the country. Ultimately, though, if we want to sustain being #1 we have got to get out of the MAC. That was what drove Lolla away and that remains a fact of life. My dream is that football and basketball can continue grow so that when the Big East inevitably kicks out the non-football schools they will look to add 2-3 others. I see Central Florida as the first in with a possibility for Akron, Toledo or Marshall for the reamining slots. My sister lives at Hickam AFB. Let's have a brew when I next get out there.Mihalo Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Now if he can grow as a coach and get a new facility, we truly are a threat to be #1 in the country. Ultimately, though, if we want to sustain being #1 we have got to get out of the MAC. I wonder if there's any way we can leave the MAC - soccer only. I have to believe our program is attractive to a better conference? And, Chryst has to realize he replaced Kentucky with a directional Indiana dreg in IUPUFW-FUA. If Chryst can't help us, we need to help ourselves. As long as the MAC has their automatic bid, things aren't too bad. But at some point I'm guessing the NCAA is going to review the MAC's bid status and pull it. Quote
AK-Zips Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Cap K, i agree. With Kentucky being MAC only for a while there has to be a possibility of us doing the same for the Big Televen or Big East or if nothing else possibly going the independant route which would allow us to schedule tougher competition for each game and be more attractive to the selction committee come tournamet time. I believe we are getting dissed becasue of our involvement in the MAC. Quote
