timsum1283 Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 as of right now, it is known that both Andy Alleman and Luke Getsy were invited to the NFL Combine.Unsurprisingly, Alleman is getting much more attention and is viewed as a better postional player than Getsty. Right now, Alleman is viewed as the 4th best to 10th best guard in the draft. My personal opinion is that he is the 6th best. Click me for rankingsAlleman is a rock solid guard standing tall at 6-4, 295 lbs. He is projected to be drafted in the middle rounds, but his stock will most likely soar after the NFL combine in a few days.Luke Getsy, on the other hand, is seen as the 7th-14th best QB in the draft and after the combine his stock will most likely increase, even if it is just by a little bit.My personal predictions are Alleman in the 3rd round to the Browns and Getsy in the 3rd or 4th to the Denver Broncos or Baltimore Ravens. Obviously these are only predictions and I hope to see both Zips playing at the next level very soon. Quote
Valpo Zip Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 I agree that Alleman would be a 3rd or 4th rounder... i hope for the browns to take him.i don't see Getsy as a 3rd rounder at all. My expectations for him are between 6th round to free agent... Quote
GP1 Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Double A will obviously get drafted 3-4. I think he is one of those players who will not be impacted by his performance at the Combine regardless of how it turns out.Getsy will not be drafted. The only question with him is what team needs a #3 willing to work for peanuts compared to other NFL players. Quote
Quickzips Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Alleman will be drafted no later than round 4.Getsy will get a UDFA contract somewhere, but I don't see him getting drafted. The only thing that may help him is that the QB class is really weak this year. Russell is a project with a lot of potential. If you believe all the media types Brady Quinn is in a free fall. Troy Smith is a 3rd rounder at best who might get taken earlier. Beyond that you have a slew of mediocre prospects including but not limited to John Rowe, Drew Stanton, Getsy, Kevin Kolb, Jordan Palmer, Tyler Palko, Trent Edwards, Chris Leak and Jared Zabransky. In a good year maybe half of those guys actually get drafted. This year it will probably be more like 3/4 just because of the overwhelmingly bad QB class. Quote
timsum1283 Posted February 20, 2007 Author Report Posted February 20, 2007 i didn't really think getsy was a 3rd or 4th rounder but i was sort of persuaded by fantasyfootballjungle.com Still, i have high hopes for alleman Quote
RowdyZip Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Random question: Have the Zips ever had two players taken in the same draft? Quote
Quickzips Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Random question: Have the Zips ever had two players taken in the same draft? If so it would have had to have been before 1982.http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/schools/AKR Quote
skip-zip Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 I'll be shocked if Getsy goes in the draft. He doesn't have enough football ablility. The only chance he has is if a team wants him for his brain, and will pick him to hold a clipboard. This isn't a cut on him. He's a great kid, and a great student, and knows football very very well. But, his physical tools just don't translate into an NFL career. I would LOVE to see Alleman in a Browns jersey. And hope that he indeed will be drafted in the 3rd to 4th round. Quote
Dan Kadar Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Random question: Have the Zips ever had two players taken in the same draft? Yes, in 1967. Al Kerkian was drafted by the Cowboys in round 13. In round 16, the Browns picked wide receiver Don Williams. Quote
danalleman Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 As I put in another post (so as not to seem redundant), Andy was featured in an article on Cleveland Browns.com on 2-14. I spoke to him yesterday and he's ready to go. Quote
Zipmeister Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 There is the smallest possibility that my memory has failed me, but I believe no two Akron football players have ever been drafted in the same year. Don Williams was on the Zips basketball team and some people thought he had NFL tight end potential. They were wrong. Quote
blueandgold Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 It always makes me happy when the Dolphins are on TV because I like when the players say what college they attended. I love hearing Jason Taylor say The University of Akron! Quote
Dr Z Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 I love hearing Jason Taylor say The University of Akron!I like when he appears on 'Jackass Number Two'I was more shocked to see JT in the movie than any stunts they did ! Quote
UA Fan Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 I love hearing Jason Taylor say The University of Akron!I like when he appears on 'Jackass Number Two'I was more shocked to see JT in the movie than any stunts they did !What did he do in JA#2? (hopefully not shooting fireworks out of his arse ) I know he wants to be a movie star but had no idea he was in that one. Did he decide whether to retire from the Fins yet? Quote
Dr Z Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 What did he do in JA#2? Did he decide whether to retire from the Fins yet?Jackass guys were jumping off a bridge in Miami, JT was just watching. Very short piece.JT will be back with the Dolphins for another year.So I'm not totally hijacking this thread, here is the combine schedule. Here is a combine blogAlso if anybody has Sirius, this is a GREAT time to listen to the NFL Station (124)I can almost bet money somebody like Alleman or Getsy gets interviewed in the next week. Quote
Dr Z Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Akron quarterback Luke Getsy said that he probably never would have a received an invitation to the combine without the success of Mid-American Conference quarterbacks who preceded him. “It’s opened so many doors,“ Getsy said. He said he prepared for the combine experience two years ago when Charlie Frye was going through it. “I was able to learn a lot asking him questions about the process. Charlie’s a big influence in my life,“ Getsy said. source Quote
timsum1283 Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 Alleman has officially weighed in at 6'4" and 305 lbs. which is ten pounds more than previously stated by most draft websites. Quote
InTheZone Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Alleman clocked a 4.96, 3rd amongst lineman at the draft and pretty good considering he's put on about 20 lbs since the season (was only about 285 last year). Quote
gozips19 Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 a little surprised he didn't put up big numbers on the bench (24 reps). he's 40 time is really good though. hope luke performs well tomorrow! Quote
74ZIP Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Alleman...good back up...Getsy...good for nothin' inthe Pros..speking of Akron draftees...where is Dwight Smith now? Quote
Iheartkangaroos Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 a little surprised he didn't put up big numbers on the bench (24 reps). he's 40 time is really good though. hope luke performs well tomorrow! Alleman got 27 reps not 24 Quote
gozips19 Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 still thought he'd do more than 27. alleman will be a starter in the pros. he's still very raw. getsy, could be a 3 stringer. as for smith, he a ufa and should resign with minn. as their starting fs. why so negative 74zip? Quote
timsum1283 Posted February 25, 2007 Author Report Posted February 25, 2007 does anyone know how getsy threw today? Quote
