It was in the women's thread because I dared ask the question, can the women's team learn from the mens team, then it got highjacked by others to tear into the current men's staff, so don't act as if someone else caused it to be in that thread....

Calm down please. I wasn't accusing you of anything. I was simply stating that I didn't want to continue that debate in the Women's Soccer thread.

I have been in Akron area since Friday.   I have not been on a computer much.

I had not looked at RPI in many days.

After Friday night's tie with 2-3 Providence, Akron has dropped to #50 in RPI  (as of Monday morning)

Notre Dame is #41

Top Drawer Top 25 and College Soccer News Top 30 are all over the map with Akron this week.

Sept 18 2023 Top Drawer Soccer Top 25

#11 Akron

https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-national-rankings/men

Sept 18 College Soccer News Top 30

#2 Akron

https://collegesoccernews.com/college-soccer-news-mens-top-30-poll-week-ending-september-17-2023/

Marshall #1 in both polls and after last nights results with #1 Stanford and unranked Oregon State: #1 Stanford 1 Oregon State 2 there is no doubt come tomorrow Marshall will also be ranked #1 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.

And since Top Drawer and College Soccer News is all over the map with Akron it will be interesting to see where they have Akron. With a tie with Providence (2-3-1) my guess it's somewhere in the middle, I'd say the 5-8 range.

As long as Chris Grassie and Marshall win they will most likely hold the top spot for both. Marshall travels to Richmond VA tomorrow to take on the 1-4-4 VCU Ram's. As bad a their record is, their RPI is 71. That is how it played out for Kentucky last year anyway.

#5 Akron

https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-national-rankings/men

Oct 9 2020 College Soccer News Top 30

#4 Akron

Akron holds steady at #5 in TDS ans moves up one spot in CSN.

I don't know how much movement we see in the Top 5 in the coaches poll but I suspect there will be some Both #1 and #2 (Marshall and UCF) won 2-0 in their only game. #3 WVU had a 2-2 draw with JMU and #4 SMU beat Charlotte 1-0 and had a 2-2 draw with FIU. Akron's 3-0 win over DePaul could bring them up a spot but Im more inclined to think if anything happens its WVU and SMU trading places.

Some of the coaches on rankings have been brutal this year. Dropping Pitt from 8 out of the top 25, Wake Forest from 9 to 21 earlier this year.

With 4 regular season games left, it is probably a good time to look at RPI

Going into last night's game at CSU

The zips were #23 in RPI with a .5799 score

their strength of schedule was at 97

After all Tuesday night's games

the Zips score dropped to .5795 and their strength of schedule dropped to 104

However, the Zips are now #21 in RPI

Before looking at each team on the schedule, the zips are an impressive 2-0-1 against teams currently ranked in the RPI top 16

Niagara  RPI     is 203     (211 teams in Division 1)

Vermont                 15

Michigan                89      Michigan has had a weird year   2 wins, only 3 losses and 7 ties  (They have no losses in the big Ten....Michigan is 1-0-5 in Big Ten)

Southern Ind         196

Long Island           151

Fla. Intl                    16

Providence              88

Notre Dame               5

St. Johns                  67

Seton Hall                 62

N. Kentucky            205

DePaul                     102

Cleve. State            139

For the first 13 games, the zips opponent have an average RPI of 103

the last 4 zips opponents have an average RPI of 85

Xavier has a 6-3-2 record and they are 41 in RPI

Creighton , I believe...was picked by the Big East coaches...to win the Big East Midwest

Creighton has a 3-4-5 record and they are 103 in RPI

Marquette has a 7-4-1 record and they are 83 in RPI

Butler has a 2-6-3 record and they are 112 in RPI

At 5:20 pm Sunday October 15th, the zips are #12 in RPI

Providence win over Georgetown really helped Akron in strength of schedule.   Akron strength of schedule was 99 yesterday morning

currently, SOS is 64

Providence was 88 in RPI earlier in the week.  They are 62 at 5:20

Jared did a good job scheduling tough out of conference opponents...Zips have wins over #7 and #8...and have a tie against #3

The zips are 0.60 behind #11 Duke in the RPI number.   Hofstra is 5 spots below Akron in the ranking but Hofstra RPI ranking is only 0.36 behind the zips.

I am so glad that the zips are out of the MAC.   Western Michigan has a record of 9-1-3.  Their current RPI is 50.  WMU strength of schedule is 188.

Southern Illinois-Edwardsville has a record of 10-0-3.  Their current RPI is 55.  Their SOS is 201.

For what it's worth, the Zips dropped from #3 to #7 in this week's coaches poll

https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/rankings/college-rankings/ncaa-di-men/

The NCAA Division 1 soccer committee ....is much more important than the coaches poll.

For those that are able to get the ACC network,    you might want to tune into the ACC network between 8:50 pm and 9:05 PM on Friday night.  We will get to see where the NCAA soccer committee ranks Akron after they have played 15 games.  ACC network will also be televising a pretty good game from 8 pm to 10 pm (#3 Wake Forest vs #6 Notre Dame)

The NCAA Division I men's soccer committee will reveal the in-season top 16 men's soccer rankings at halftime of the 8 p.m. ET match between Notre Dame and Wake Forest on the ACC Network on Friday, Oct. 20.

Games through Thursday, Oct. 19 will be in consideration for the Oct. 20 top-16 reveal. The announcement gives fans a sneak peek of where teams stand a few weeks out from the selection show, which is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 13.

I will be surprised if the committee's rankings vary much from the RPI on the NCAA site at the time ... https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/ncaa-mens-soccer-rpi

When I compare the current Thursday afternoon RPI.......to the end of last week RPI, here are the major changes...that I see.....

Unfortunately, the Zips are one of 2 teams.....that have seen a fairly significant drop

Akron was #12 in RPI....at the completion of all games.....as of Sunday night 10/15

After last night's loss to #117 Creighton (RPI at time of the game), Akron has dropped to #25 in RPI

North Carolina was #14 in RPI as of 10/15

North Carolina has dropped to #21 in RPI  (North Carolina tied William and Mary in their 1 completed game this week)

New Hampshire was #15 in RPI as of 10/15......On Tuesday night, New Hampshire had to play Hofstra (Hofstra was #17 as of 10/15)

New Hampshire won the Tuesday night matchup....and New Hampshire is currently #8 in RPI

West Virginia was #9 in RPI as of 10/15

Last night, West Virginia defeated Marshall 5-2    (Marshall was 12-0-0 before last night)

West Virginis is now #5 in RPI

Stanford was #19 in RPI as of 10/15

Stanford was probably helped by Creighton's win over Akron

Stanford had wins over Georgetown and Creighton on their first weekend of the season.

Stanford shows as #15 in current RPI

Stanford plays Oregon State tonight (Oregon State is currently #32 in RPI)....so Stanford could move up a little bit more if they get a high quality win tonight

Revision: I will be surprised if the committee's rankings vary much from the NCAA's RPI rankings whether or not they are updated on the NCAA website at the time.
