As I put in the title of this thread ... fwiw ... for what it's worth. Polls are about as meaningful as participation trophies. RPI is more relevant.

Honestly, I don't understand your "beef" with Zips Men's Soccer fans expectations being so high. I remember when our head coach would apologize to fans for "poor performance". I thought it was strange at first but then realized that he wanted our expectations to be that high.

Please please please just admit it….

the polls were more relevant than the rpi. 😎

Mr KnowItAll himself gets it wrong this time. Victory for the unmoaning folk out there.

Given the closer alignment with RPI in the past, I'm happy to see the committee give our team this respect and include us in the Top 16. Hopefully, we get a win tonight, and the week off between this match and the next allows for some additional recovery. Would be great to see the 2023 Zips get hot near the end of the season like the 2018 Zips and make a great run.

http://United Soccer Coaches Men's Top 25 Poll

In the last coaches' poll, published 11/6, Akron was in the category of "also receiving votes".

This means that in the eyes of United Soccer Coaches Men's Top 25 Poll, Zips are no worse than the 33rd best team in NCAA.

There are 48 teams in the NCAA MSOC Tournament, as has been the format for quite some time.

As you know, winners of conference tournaments automatically qualify.

In this way, several teams with lower RPI than Akron made the tournament.

(Someone can provide that total; I have no doubt.)

Nothing unusual here; this occurs every single year.

Aside from the automatic qualifiers, every team making the tournament had an RPI greater than 41, where our Zips are.

The United Soccer Coaches Men's Top 25 Poll heavily suggests that the Zips should be in the NCAA Tournament.

RPI indicates otherwise.

As they nearly always do, with only rare and notable exceptions, the selection committee again chose according to RPI (outside of automatic qualifiers).

Which is more relevant, polls or RPI?
