If Sac State had to pay $20M to get INTO the MAC, what's it cost to get out?

Good riddance to Miami. What have they really accomplished in that last 30 years? One football championship and one very undeserved basketball championship. And pretty much zero in all other sports (except maybe tennis). So one lucky year in basketball and playing better football recently and suddenly they are too good for the MAC. Ask NIU how well switching conferences is working out for them so far.

This is true, and exactly what is wrong with college sports. Miami leaving the MAC would only make sense in terms of $$$. I wouldn’t consider NIU to be a MAC staple, but if Miami left a conference with history and rivalries to join a revolving door conference, there’s no hope for the Mac

You can figure every single MAC team has at least had discussions about leaving at this point.  The league just doesn't have strong leadership (which is also the schools' fault, yes)

The question is, why aren't they getting together to chart a better path together? The answer is never what athletic directors want it to be. MAC schools aren't going to somehow start raking in money. The answer is something around what Dayton, Davidson and others have done, but no MAC AD is going to go for that, which is why they should be taken out of the decision making process.

Division 1 football league with no scholarships but their basketball teams have scholarships. Not sure they are all in the same basketball league.

Oh okay, that could make some sense.  Thank you for the clarification.

 

They are both Atlantic 10 basketball teams.  Not sure the A10 would want an Akron, but that plus the Pioneer Football League could be the financial answer (and like with Sac State they have teams out west so we wouldn't lose that...)
