#1 rowdy Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Romeo is the Mac Player of the year! Congrats to him and lets get ready to roll in the tourny! Quote
jeaglet1 Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Romeo had a pretty good season, but I'd argue hes not even the most valuable player on this team. Quote
Big Zip Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I agree -- I can't say he was the POTY on this team. Quote
Z-Pouch Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Congrats to Romeo.MAC Press ReleaseHopefully, Middleton picks up the 6th man award tomorrow. Quote
AK-Zips Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Congrats to Romeo.MAC Conference Press ReleaseHopefully, Middleton picks up the 6th man award tomorrow. grrrrrrrrrrrrrIt's not MAC CONFERENCE... Just MAC or Mid-American Conference! Quote
skip-zip Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I think I know what some of you might be getting at here....The press release is calling this "Player of the Year", and not "Most Valuable Player". It's a slight difference in the definition, and I've seen this before. With that "player of the year" definition, the voters tend to feel that they need to flat-out give the award to the best basketball player in the conference that year. And I don't think there is a better player in the conference this year than Romeo Travis. However, when you label this award "most valuable", then they might tend to look at who meant the most to their respective team. And you can make the argument that someone else might have been more valuable to our team.Which leads me to another debate that we've had on here for a long time.....Does Romeo Travis now become a strong candidate to have his jersey retired someday? If my memory serves me correctly, he's our first conference POY/MVP since Marcel Boyce in 1986. Quote
Zips fan Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Congrats to Romeo Travis! This is a well deserved and outstanding honor. Romeo was a great player for the Zips and will someday enjoy seeing his jersey hung from the rafter along with the NCAA tournament banner that is forthcoming from this year. Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Congrats to Romeo! That's quite an honor. Hopefully he can put that trophy next to his MAC tourney MVP trophy. We'll need that type of performance out of him if we're to win it all. Quote

Either way, congrats. Quote
