timmyboy
Associate commissioner Rick Boyages saying he wanted to apologize for his comments earlier and that he was sorry and that he should have limited the reply to only the explanation of the events. Captain Kangaroo
he should have limited the reply to only the explanation of the events. ya think so?What a loose cannon that guy is. Shocking we couldn't get a tourney bid with him pleading our case. Wonder how many people on the committee he offended?
timmyboy
Dear Tim,I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for my response to your email. I should have limited my comments to only an explanation of the events. The other remarks were inappropriate and I am sorry to have offended you. Sincerely, R. BoyagesI also noticed that he forwarded this same email to Mack, guess he just wanted to show him that he did apologize.
KNCLZip
I have the same concern as Captain Kangaroo.....think that Boyages might have said something that offended members of the NIT committee? He sounds like a loose cannon....something we don't need in a conference office.
bryanschapiro
Doesn't that encompass the whole controversy. A bad call, a raw deal, another raw deal, and then everyone seems to be against us. What is this world coming to?

timmyboy
I mayyyy or may not have forwarded his e-mail to Timmy to numerous media outlets.... I may be wrong, but I only think he sent the email saying sorry to cover his butt. It was a nice gesture, but after what he said i dont think it was his choice to send it... i think he did it out of pressure he got from people forwarding thre first E Mail onto the AD and other media outlets. but he did say sorry, so i got to take it for what it is. MRasor0200
I had about a 30 minute conversation with Rick today. He was seriously remorseful for snapping in those e-mails. This guy has a background in coaching and probably isn't used to being diplomatic. He seems to be a legitimately nice guy who really likes Akron. He has personal connections with Dambrot, Dials and Joyce.
FearTheRoo
Did he explain why the MAC office has been silent during the biggest raping in it's history?Hell, even something on their website to epress their "extreme displeasure that the NIT decided not to select Akron" would have been a start. There's nothing wrong with him defending his beliefs...but the snide remarks werent needed. Glad to see he (hopefully) realizes that now. That's all and good...however, he's a high official with a DI conference now.Despite his background, once you reach this level of responsibility you must have the capacity to act like a professional.Makes me wonder what other situations in which he has lost his cool.To just become so defensive and rude when you are talking to the people who justify his job (the customer) is in appropriate. This wouldn't work in the business world.By the time you reach this level or stage in life, he should know better. It's nice he apologized, but this should have never happened in the first place. MACReport
Folks - Rick is a good guy. He just made a mistake. Haven't we all hit the "send" button on an email that we wished two seconds after sending it that we hadn't? That's what happened here. Big Zip
Rick is a good guy -- I know that is what you would certainly like to believe and you and Rasor may truly believe it, but I'm not buying it. I would love to personally see the guy fired or severly reprimanded. Did you actually read the e-mail. Not only was he flipant and rude he basically pointed out that the issue at the MAC game wasn't it big deal -- get over it. You don't think this guy has an impact on the perception of our conference? Do you think this guy should really be a position where he may affect each school in the conference -- no way. Hitting send on an e-mail too quickly is one thing when you are replying to your friend and saying something you regret later in the work place, but I would guess there isn't a person on this board that would have responded to a customer in the fashion he did. I haven't written numerous letters to politicians in my days voicing my displeasure with decisions they have made and the only responses I have received have been cordial with an attempt to explain their position. Nothing like that. Then again he could say nothing the Mack has with too many of the people on this board.

Haven't we all hit the "send" button on an email that we wished two seconds after sending it that we hadn't? That's what happened here. Then maybe after that 2 seconds he should have sent another email saying he was sorry for the way he acted and the rude things he said....... and not wait until 11:00 at night when he knows that his email was sent to all the university of Akron reps, and to all the major media outlets! Like I said before, it seems like just an apology to cover his butt, and not one he wanted to send because he knew he was wrong.
nectek
I never want to hear anyone tell me that I don't support Akron or the MAC, though I follow another team more than the Zips. I would suspect that your apology was more forced, than him doing it out of good will. I say this due to I sent him an email only hours after I read the initial response he had to Timmy. Listed below is my email to Mr. Boyages. I would like to think my email to him got the point across."Dear Mr. Rick Boyages, I am emailing you in regards to some communication you had with a concerned fan about the MAC Championship this past weekend. You might remember him as Timmy. If you don't remember him as Timmy, let me refresh your memory as I will quote you as saying "It's amazing to me how ignorant your email is." "It is called human error – something which you yourself have probably never been guilty of in your entire life! " "However, I am sure by your comments, that you must have more basketball experience and knowledge than any and all of us. " "Tell me, Timmy, is it tough going through your life as an "expert" on everything? And, oh yes, you have now officially received a reply to your sophomoric email. Lastly, "reguarding" is actually spelled r-e-g-a-r-d-i-n-g. Imagine that, you actually just made the first mistake of your life!" I have read both the original email sent to you by Timmy, as well as your response. Though Timmy may not have been the most professional in his delivery of his message, I can honestly say that you have not shown professionalism in your response much more than the original email sent to you. As a fan of MAC sports, I would hope for more professionalism from those at the top, but I may be incorrect after reading your response to a fan of not only Akron University, but a fan in general. I personally don't care about the time clock, the controversy over the entire MAC Championship, that's old news now and is done and over with. I am not an avid Akron fan but more like a MAC fan. Unfortunately, my image of the MAC is now tarnished by your response to a fan. I wish you the best of luck. Your email response to Timmy will most likely be forwarded to all possible media outlets including Fox Sports, WKYC and NewsNet5 media groups, as well as newspapers. I know it was made public already as I was able to find out about it via the web. You will now have to answer to others why your response to a fan had much less class and professionalism than the original email. I guess you just showed your true colors and now you may have to answer to fans as well as colleagues. Considering that you are in a position of leadership, you sir should be ashamed of yourself. If you feel the need to respond to me in the same manner of which you did Timmy, I will feel free to pass along your email. Best Wishes, MAC Fan"
