Thanks mike, there are a few positions that will change once all the players get to join the team, such as almondo sewell ( to good not to see the field) and bryan williams... not sure where he will play but he also is too good fo a talent to sit on the sidelines.

a little disappointed to see bates and anderson as back ups but the season is young. hopefully they'll get their acts together. haven't been to any practices so does anyone know if Schepp is rotating with Holley at center or solely taking snaps at rg? :screwks:
the way JD talked, schepp is the right guard, and he hasent said he is rotating at center. holley is a capable center and after being behind wills the last 2 years im sure he has grown and gotten a few pointers from him. hopefully this OL can gel quickly.

good points. we need the offensive line this year more than ever.we have to able to run the ball with a new qb.i guess the running game can't get much worse than last year though. if we can rush for positive yards then that's a good thing.

He's a JUCO, so you never can tell. Mickey Baker, JUCO All-American, and one of the worst signees in the history of Akron comes to mind as a recent example. Hopefully Estrada doesn't follow the mold and truely is someone who can help us up front. And also, are we that thin up front on D that we have three walk-ons on the second team?? Nothing against, walk-ons, there have been many in Zips history that turned out to be great, but thats a bad sign.

dont forget that we still have 3 scholarships to give, and captain has already said the one is a BIG canadian for the DL. hopefully we find out very soon who the last 3 remaining are. and also C. stewart from hargrove military will be with the team come summer. I have personally never seen him play but i have heard he is a good one, and he came from the same school as almondo sewell, so we shall see.

No freshman I've seen that we've signed or will potentially sign is the type that can come in year one and have an impact. Some people don't realize the gap in strength and speed from the hs/juco level to 1-A, and how long it takes most players to adjust themselves to that. If we're having to play true freshman up front on defense that's about the same as playing walk-on players who have at least been here for a while. To me this is a result of poor, poor defensive line recruiting the past few years, giving scholarships to guys who had little chance of ever seeing the field due to academics and bad character as opposed to bringing guys that might not be three stars but would be dependable and be ready to take the field in their second or third year. We've had no less than six defensive lineman sign and never appear on the roster in the last three years. That's devastating.

i heard he is as big if not bigger then the jones guy from PA who alot of people wanted us to sign. Heck, if their that low at DL maybe I should think about walking on ha ha 6' 290 lbs witha 4.9-5.1 40 yard dash and 370 pound max bench press ( but i havent lifted lately so i could prob only get 320) :)

From what I hear, Baker wasn't a bad player. However, he was a bad apple. He managed to offend just about everyone he came in contact with during his brief stint at UA.Estrada is, by all accounts, an outstanding kid. And an excellent football player.I share your concerns on the D-line. It would be huge if one of the incoming Fr. DL's could make a decent impact this year. Historically that's tough to do, but we really need it. Shane Shead is a Fr, but has a year of prep school under his belt. Maybe that head start makes him closer to a Soph than a Fr, development-wise?

I don't know Cap, I heard Baker was pretty bad, but maybe that's just in light of what many expected him to do, which was come in and fill in at the MIKE.As for the new roster, apparently Ty Washington has dropped fifteen lbs, put on #49, and gained four more years of eligibility from the NCAA  . Way to go Ty!!
