zipsbandman Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 We have an important game on Wednesday. We are about to play a team that we are competing with for the 8th seed and a first round home game, and we are playing them on their court. With the way the zips have played on the road this year, I'm worried about this game. If we pull this off, we are looking at a home game plus an improved chance of making it to Cleveland. I'm hoping that Joyce keeps up his solid play. I noticed at the Can't game how difficult it was to get any penetration. Our guards did a great job in keeping the Can't defense in check on the perimeter. Collins also did well in breaking up plays for the flushes. He is coming along really well. Wood/Travis/Futch were able to keep Edwards under control. I think they really stepped up their play defensively. They had a lot of competition with the boards as Can't seemed like a quick Miami team with greater size. With that said, we should be able to go into Huntington and get a W. There is no reason why this team is where they are at. Right now, I would be happy if we can make one game at the Gund. Quote
Guest AkronZipsFan34_1_5 Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 I think the Zips could win this game despite their away game record. I hope Rick won't keep shooting threes when he keeps missing them. Maybe Tarver will forget about how many points he has a just try his best like everyone did at the Can't game. LETS GO ZIPS! Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 The Marshall game appears to be the difference between a home or away MAC tourney 1st round game...probably against Marshall again. Is it better to have a MAC tourney home game? Hipsher's had plenty of them and lost every one. A win this Wednesday would also mean we'd need to beat Marshall 3 times in one season to advance to The Gund...and beating a team thrice (my word) in a season is always very tough to do. As unpopular as it sounds, history dictates it would probably be best if we lost on Wednesday and played in Huntington next week. If we finish as an 8/9 seed...and win in the 1st round...we'd play Can't @ The Gund next Thursday. That would be pretty cool. Does it happen...or does the ghost of Anthony Stacey...Jose Davis...Keith McCloud...or Brandon Hunter send the Zips to yet another disappointing 1st round loss? Stay tuned... :o Quote
Z-P Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Sorry guys.........Marshall's gunna stomp on us. We travel to the first tourney game, robbing Andy and Tarver the chance to play thier last game before a home crowd.............we choke at the end.........and the boss flushes the whole crew and starts over next year. Yes, someone else said it...........Can't State was DH's "Marshall" (to LO) but this time the boss will pull the trigger. IM always HO............... Quote
Dr Z Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 If the Marshall team that showed up at the JAR is there on Wednesday, we win. That team did not impress me AT ALL. I like our chances. I think the Can't game brings our team together and they start to play some TEAM basketball. If we play Marshall in the first round at the JAR I say we are off to the GUND ! DH, if #1 gets any more playing time I think I'm going to shoot myself. Quote
Guest AkronZipsFan34_1_5 Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 I think Bryan didn't do bad he had a couple of good rebounds ya he fouled somone but that happens in basketball. He played in a game where we played a great team and we still won. Quote
zipper Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Z-P, I sure hope the boss doesn't look at only the end of this season but rather at DH's entire tenure. It's a whole picture, not a snapshot. Quote

It's a whole picture, not a snapshot. If we do not make an impact in this tournament, there is no doubt in my mind that Hipsher will be outta here. That Can't State game means nothing if we cannot capitalize on it. We are in a position to earn ourselves a home game after a very trying season. I say we get behind Hipsher this last time. We'll see how much he wants to keep his job. If we lose to Marshall, however, you won't have to worry. It will be over for Hipsher. Quote
Hilltopper Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Dru Joyce played a good game on Sunday. To win on the road you have to not turn the ball over. If Dru plays as solid a game against the herd we have a chance. He needs to start shooting it a little better because he's gonna get someopen looks. <_< Quote
Guest AkronZipsFan34_1_5 Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Hipsher may want to keep his job but no matter how much he wants to it wont matter because it all depends on how those guys play. If some of them feel they don't have it in them and they lose then it all goes to Dan. Quote
HeHateMiami Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Hey Zipsbandman, ::Off topic alert:: Do Rob Churgovich and Mike Ramos still play in the Akron basketball band? Just curious. . . Quote
zipboy Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 Great win on Sunday, congrats to the Zips. They played with the fire and emotion that we saw a few years ago in football after the Marshall win. Tarver makes 1st team all MAC based on that performance alone. The win did as much for the Zips mental health as much as anything. They laid it all on the line and a loss would have been devasting. If we win out, still a chance to finish as high as 6th. It is at the point now where playing at home, playing on the road, playing whoever does not matter. There is no way to predict how a Hipsher coached team does in the tourny. Every year we go in hot (except for the CMU debacle), we lose. The one year we look dead, the Zips bury WMU. If the Zips hit 75% of their free throws, play D like Sunday, and Tarver is near flawless, we have a shot. Glad we are not the 5 seed. Now that Smallwood is back, NIU is looking like everyone thought they would be. If we don't get the home game, I would not mind playing at Buffalo. Hot or not, I think that is a good draw. What I don't want is to play at BG. Have we ever won up there? Congrats again Zips, it is nice to have hope again. Quote
zipsbandman Posted March 3, 2004 Author Report Posted March 3, 2004 Hey Zipsbandman, ::Off topic alert:: Do Rob Churgovich and Mike Ramos still play in the Akron basketball band? Just curious. . . Neither are in the band, but we have a great group of students that drive opposing teams and coaches nuts! Quote
HeHateMiami Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Yeah, I remember seeing you guys last year (when Rob and Mike were in the band) in the first round of the tourney. One of the better sounding bands in the MAC IMHO. Quote
