bobbyake Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 So happy right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one deserves to go to a national championship from beating only MAC, D1-AA, and Small Ten teams. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Thank God I won't have to endure all that fake hype leading up to next saturday now. Quote
GoZips88 Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Michigan goes down ...Notre Dame goes down ...Ohio A&M goes down ...Can't State goes down to previous winless-in-the-MAC Northern ... ...Yesiree, I do believe it is setting up to be a very satisfying sports weekend! Still to come (hopefully) ...Can't State loses at Detroit this evening in men's basketball (Can't currently up 8-5 early) ...Cleveland Browns beat Pittspuke tomorrow! Quote
RowdyZip Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Thank God I won't have to endure all that fake hype leading up to next saturday now.Oh, unfortunately you'll still have to hear it. It's still basically the Big 11 championship game. I'm not gonna lie, i smiled a little when i saw them lose. Sorry, buckeye fans...maybe next year? Quote
GoZips88 Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Did Can't State just lose by 1 to Detroit to start the men's basketball season? Detroit 61 Can't State 60 (sorry bobbyake ... I didn't mean to hijack your OSWooo Hooo thread with Can't but I felt it fell into the same category and I didn't want to start a new thread; lots of good news today!) Quote
Zips fan Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 I am thrilled that the suckeyes lost but I do want the MAC to do well in OCC games for B-Ball. I know its Can't but the better the MAC does OCC the more respect our conference will get as a whole. Quote
Valpo Zip Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 I agree with zips fan. We need the MAC teams to do good in their OOC schedule. This will make the MAC look better and improve our RPI when we hopefully beat them. Quote
Zippysgotagun Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Clearly it doesn't matter what our RPI is based on last year. Either win the conference, or go home early. And here we go again, laughing at OSU's misfortune, while some of us wish a team that is in our conference and 10 miles away from us well.GoZips88...well done. Quote
zipdiehard Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Zippysgotagun, I think you are missing the point...Can't is in our own conference, OSU is meaningless to us or the MAC. Our conference is desperate for respect and recognition, and these kind of losses only hurt ALL teams in the MAC. While the OSU fans may have been rejoicing at Michigan's lost to App State, you can bet the Big11 officials and coaches cringed. They know what it means, especially $$ wise, to not have their teams in any of the big bowls. Quote

you am i Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I guess I'm having a hard time figuring why an OSU loss generates discussion on an Akron message board. I'm not trying to be a wise guy. It just baffles me. It has nothing to do with Akron. Quote
zippyrifle32 Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 osu is a rival in several sports, including this year, in football. so in many respects is is acceptable to discuss them as well. Quote
Zippysgotagun Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 The Small Ten will get their big bowl games. They scheduled only MAC and D1AA teams for Out-of-Conference games for a reason. As did the SEC, Big 12, Big East, and ACC. Why wouldn't they? 96% of the time, it's an easy win. What bowl game will we be participating in this year? Quote
Valpo Zip Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 What bowl game will we be participating in this year? What is that supposed to mean? What do you suggest? shall we close this board, burn our blue and gold gear, and let's all become OSU fans? Quote

I'm simply trying to say that I don't really understand the blind hatred for a bigger, more accomplished program. Instead of focusing on a school that we play once in a blue moon, why don't we worry about our own program?Like You am I, I wonder why an OSU loss generates such a big discussion here. It has absolutely zero bearing on the well being of the Zips. Quote
Big Zip Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Obviously you don't share Bobby's hatred for everything red and gray -- that's okay. I'm ambivalent when it comes to them, but I did crack a smile on Saturday night when they lost. My guess would for why there is hatred for the team in Columbus is the overwhelming gushing by our own hometown newspapers and tv stations coupled with the complete and obnoxious fans that most of which have absolutely no affiliation with the school. Columbus fans remind me of Miami fans (to try to bring this topic back to this week) they look down on Akron, its graduates and its sports teams. Look no further than what the legislature in Columbus is considering doing to a school with well over 100 years of history in favor of one with 40. If the people on this board don't stand up and defend Akron then it's not getting defended. If hating on the school in Columbus some how brings happiness and sunshine to people's life -- so be it. If having a place to post their hatred in a safe zone among many like minded people helps -- good for them. This Akron fan will not shed a tear if Columbus loses next week and a school that lost to a Div. 1AA school represents the Big 11 in the BCS. It will only help to validate the complete and utter BS that is the BCS. Thinking of it that way, this year I'll actually take a rooting interest and root for Michigan. Quote

Dr Z Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I want to see MU win the big 10. Makes the big 10 look like a joke since their champ lost to a Div II school. Quote

Makes the big 10 look like a joke since their champ lost to a Div II school.Think of the irony if MU wins, what will all the Suckeye fans do with their Appilachian State shirts?? Probably create a new shirt saying, "Thank God we didn't play them." Quote
akronad Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 I can understand the dislike and disdain for the Buckeyes, since the local media is too stupid & too ignorant to give the local school or schools any pub. However, if you think it is any different in Louisiana, think again. They are just as rabid and insane down there for LSU as the folks from Columbus are for OSU. And just like like Columbus, most of the folks in Louisiana did not go LSU. H--l, most folks in Louisiana never went to school. Quote

Zippysgotagun Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Great day to be a Zips fan. Why? Did we win our bowl game or something?Again, I don't understand quite how an OSU loss means so much here. In the past 3 years, they've won their conference 2 more times than we ever have. They scored almost 7 times as many points on us (20) as we gained first downs on them (3). Off the top of their heads, most people can name you 10 times as many OSU players playing on Sunday than they can Zips. They have played for the national title the past 2 years, and we've played for what? Perhaps we should keep the board to talking about how to better our own program before we celebrate a loss of a bigger, more established school. Quote

LOL, I think we can handle multitasking. :PI was rooting for the bucks, but I wasn't crying when they lost. *shrug* They aren't "my" team and no matter how much the media around here tries to force them on me, they will not be my team.Oh, and I guess you can't talk away their successes, but you have to admit, consecutive bashings in the national championship game is embarassing Quote
bobbyake Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 I'm just happy I don't have to hear about them anymore. Time for the media and everyone else in this area to open their eyes to Zips Basketball. Quote
