ThorsGirl
By Tom GaffneyBeacon Journal sportswriter POSTED: 02:00 p.m. EST, Feb 08, 2008 Jeremiah Wood, the leading scorer and rebounder for the University of Akron basketball team, has a knee injury that will cause him to miss four weeks. An MRI on his right knee Friday showed a torn lateral menicus. Wood, a senior, is scheduled to have surgery Saturday. Wood, a Central-Hower High graduate, suffered a torn ACL on the same knee when he was a sophomore. Wood is averaging 13.4 points and 7.8 rebounds for the Zips, who play Saturday night at Ball State. GoZips88
I H-A-T-E it when a "bruise" requires surgery! :mad_flame:Back just in time for the Can't game ??? or held out of that one in favor of the MAC tourney? Able to contribute much in either case???
hoopla
and what is happening with ced and dials on top of that? i heard at the office today that ced was falling apart and wasn't likely to play either at Ball St.
rowdy52
Oh geez, it was only a matter a time before something like this happened with as many guys as we have hurting right now. I just feel bad that this is his senior year and he has to miss out like this. But like GoZips88 said....4 weeks brings us exactly the the Akron vs Cant game...will be be able to practice before then to be able to play any or will he just be available for the Tournament and at what percent?? He is what has kept us in the game with his play and I sure hope someone can step it up because he will very much be missed with some big games coming up. ziptrumpet87
I guess the best we can do is not count on him for the remainder of the season. If he does come back, it's a bonus. It's a shame if his season and college playing ends this way, but I'd be willing to bet he's going to do what he can to make it back. Get well JW! Let'sGoZips94
In another topic, i don't think too long ago, somebody said that Romeo Travis really got good when Wood was injured. Maybe this is Bardo's and the McKnight's turn to do the same. Get well J-Wood

ZachTheZip
Well, now we're in for it. Wood is gone, Ced is barely able to move, Dials is hurt, and Quade is nonexistanst. So much for having a senior-laden team.It may spell good news for next year by giving all of our underclassmen a chance to develop, and it may give Goddard and Salee more playing time, but unless Wood, Dials, and Ced make miracle comebacks before the Can't game (I would say the tourney, but there's no way in hell that we can allow Can't to beat us at home), it's time to start looking ahead to next year. skip-zip
Our greatest fear becomes reality. Teams will now be able to pick up our guards on the perimeter with little fear of anyone being able to hurt them in the paint. Plus, without the double-downs, it will become even more rare for us to see open shooters standing at the 3 point line. We knew this was coming. He has appeared to be getting a little more tired as the season has progressed. His accuracy around the hoop has suffered, and he's really taken a physical pounding trying to handle the load in rebounding and interior defense. If anything, maybe he will return for the Can't game and the MAC tournament well-rested. Now we'll see if Bardo and C. McKnight are able to give us what we've needed from them all along in the paint. We'll need these two to combine for 10-15 points, and 10-15 defensive rebounds every game if we are to get through the next few weeks. Hilltopper
At least its only a Miniscus and not an ACLor PCL. I've had a torn Miniscus and although it was painfull it didn't structurally make it impossible to walk. 4 weeks recovery seems about right. I guess we will see what Bardo is made of now.
zipsbandman
Well we can pretty much crown Can't the champions this year. Damn We're gonna get a realllly good preview of what we got next year. Just about every senior is unaccounted for.
skip-zip
zipsbandman...we still had road games to play at Miami, and at Ohio anyway. So, the road to the East title was going to be very difficult after the loss to WMU. And Can't State has already played those two road games. Bardo has shown in the last few weeks that he can be a very good defender on the inside, and he even did a nice job guarding when he stepped out near the 3 point line. He just cant go out there to often because that will leave the middle open for a player to slash into.
