Zipmeister
Yes, let's not irritate any of the Zip's southern fan base. For example, I know some down there do not appreciate questions like the following. A guy and gal from Georgia get married, then move to California, then get divorced. The question is in Georgia are they still legally brother and sister? So don't put anything like that on here, but you do raise a good point with the nephew/brother thing. bigham78
That's what my nephew and brother just toldHe's your nephew and your brother. So this explains the whole Georgia thing. No my Nephew was in town and and with his Father (brother) stopped by while he was in town visiting and as he wanted to see the UofA stadium and sent me an email on his way back to Kuwait.I'm sorry if that didn't come out right. bigham78
Since we appear to have a communications issue here.My 53 year old (brother) and his 33 year old son (My nephew) who was home from Kuwait went over to the Info on yesterday. He's been stateside for few days and wanted to see all that was going in Akron for the short time he was in town.I'm truly sorry that seems to have gotten lost and resulted in some very classless comments at what is supposed to fan friendly site. BostonZip
I wonder why there seems to be so much room around the field to the edge of the stands? Maybe they will lay more pieces along the side still but it seems to me there will still be a good amount of room from the seats to the actual playing field.Maybe they are leaving a little more room to accommodate the dimensions of a soccer field. Also, when you consider there are 80 or 90 players, plus coaches, trainers, equipment managers, benches, water stations, kicking net, photographers, videographers, sideline reporters, recruits, etc., etc., on the sidelines, you need a fair amount of room. scottditzen
I definitely agree with Zipsrifle re: the scoreboard posts. I think being metal they look great as is. I think the models showing square shaped brick supports looked kinda awkward...is there a such thing as too much brick? Also, why would they bother painting the metal posts "Akron blue" if they were just going to brick them over?Took my tour of the stadium today and oddly enough, not much had changed from when I was there at the spring game. Obviously I didn't go in the press tower which is where I'm assuming the vast majority of work has been focused. Anyway, it was coming along nicely. I like the alternating green grass, but I don't like the color green they chose. It wil still look amazing when it's done! I was very much against anything but brick for holding up the scoreboard as the scoreboard on the model looked terrible but, I have to say I like what they've done. The four posts are very substantial and it looks nothing like a Highschool scoreboard as I feared. The view of the stadium, city and the University from the SE stands is going to be flat out amazing! I was over in that corner (not in the stands) today and could just see the top of Bulger, The Poly-Sci building, Cascade Plaza, and the First National Bank tower downtown. They need to put a camera stand up there for the televised games! The stadium looks bigtime from the outdoor track, very, very nice! Overall, very, very impressed. A lot of happy faces there today, except for my daughter (2 years old)...she was upset when she found out that she couldn't get hot dogs from the concession stands yet and started crying... Ha!I still think they're going to brick the four post holding up the the scoreboard. That's usually done near the finishing of the installing a scoreboard I've seen done at other schools. I just thought they were regular steel columns and that is very HS like if you're here in the SE and see the monies boosters and touchdown clubs put into their stadiums. There's a HS not far from where I work NorthView HS in northern Fulton County. They have very nice looking jumbotron that's sits on four cheap looking steel columns painted a light blue. I have to admit the spacing and look of one at the Info is better looking. But, I can't fully tell from cams and I don't recall them being painted after they were installed. I believe they came in the color they are just like the supports for the upper deck. If, they're the nice looking colums you're saying. Then I'm okay with them being left as is. But, I've seen jumbotrons on brick supports at several colleges here in the South and IMO, most would be very pleased with the end product. They resemble roller coaster support columns (i.e. cylindrical)

Zipmeister
I can hardly wait for them to flip that first side strip over to see if the 3 yard "encroachment area" is premarked in white. My belly button won't stop puckering and unpuckering, the anticipation is so great.

interfx
it's looking awesome! Just looked at the webcams (it's been a few weeks since I last looked)...Finally a professional stadium for the zips! (and the marching band)
WinZip
Well after a little vacation from the Nation I thought I'd check up on the staduim progress and all I can say is, IT'S LOOKING GREAT!! Thanks to everyone who has been adding pictures. The more pictures the better, especially from angles the webcams don't cover. It's tough bein hours away but I'm still drooling over this. ...and I'm not too worried about completion, after all it's already better than the Rubber Bowl. I can't wait to see a zips logo!
