UA Fan
We've got sod!I thought they said it would be too slippery.I don't know who "they" are, but I remember posting somewhere that sod only takes two to three weeks to root.I would be a little amazed to see fans on it this year. It already looks AWESOME! I love it.I don't know about slippery...I think the issue was with sodded grass roots not growing deep enough to anchor it sufficiently into the soil below. As of June 29 per MRasor's blog they were still planning to seed so they're obviously having to fly by the seat of their pants a little bit and take some chances:The south end, of course, is where the scoreboard will sit. There will be a large grassy student area between the field and scoreboard. They chose to plant grass seed, rather than sod, because planting seed makes for a more durable surface on a slope. The students also will sit on the south side of the bleachers. The university has allocated 5,500 seats for students, and also the endzone grass. It's first come, first serve.Previous posts in this thread indicated they had already slurry-seeded the end-zone(?)
UADavid
They seeded across the street on Lee Jackson, not the stadium. FYI
bigham78
Sun bar location currently being asphalted, second light standard awaiting lights to be erected, lot next to Nat closed and is being ground down today for repaving, lot behind rec center scheduled to close tomorrow for three weeks according to UA digest. If Nat lot isn't ground and paved today, I think that it will have to be delayed a bit.If the light standard was assembled where it will be erected, expect 4 lights behind the east stands. It's not sitting at the halfway point behind the stadium. It's possible they will move it when completely assembled to the center of the east stands. The third or third and fourth light towers will take some time because of the dorm building being in the way. Thanks for the info.I'm hoping for four poles or more. I've viewed dozens of stadiums on the net and three light poles is HS looking IMO. I wish they'd went ahead and did the five on top of the upper deck in the graphics. That more of college football look IMO. I don't know why they felt the need to change that look.

The first pole is not tight to the stands and looks offset from the end of the stands. The crane looks dead center behind the east stands now. Looks like three to me. One of few I could find where three poles didn't look quite to HS.

ZachTheZip
Watering system is a go on the 'Rise' Take hold roots!But... it's raining. It's been raining all day now. I know sod needs watered a lot, but this is almost overkill.
MDZip
What in the world are these? You may want to be more specific.Sorry, thought they were pretty obvious. Look at the top of the lower deck stands, looks like some large white panels being stood up but only part way down the stands. It doesn't look permamant and doesn't exist on the west side stands. ZachTheZip
From GoZips.com:With the grand opening of InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field seven weeks away, GoZips.com Insider Josh Harris begins a weekly behind-the-scenes look at the new home of the Akron football program. The first installment of the countdown series examines the scoreboard and video screen. The Zips home opener comes on Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. EDT versus Morgan State.By Josh HarrisGoZips.com InsiderOne of the most noticeable and talked about additions to InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field over the last month is that of the state-of-the-art scoreboard and video screen. Viewed as a vital part of the interactive gameday experience at the soon-to-open venue, the approximately 100-foot-long installment has an enormous presence – towering over the concourse level at 40 feet and an equally impressive 60 feet above the field level.Work on the scoreboard and video screen has occurred in multiple and noticeable phases. First, was the installation of the four powder-coated mounts, which received a paint job in the recognizable “Akron Blue”. Next came the addition of the structural frame, to which all further pieces have been mounted.Among the components that will enhance the in-game experience for fans are the 10 individually mounted sponsor signs and the scoreboard itself, which will inform patrons of basic in-game information such as quarter of play, game clock, ball placement and downs to go and the score. The scoreboard was assembled in three sections. A video message board below the scoreboard was also put in place in three sections and will provide space for additional announcements and interactive messages to fans.Arguably, the most impressive and notable feature of the entire structure is the video screen. Dominating the south endzone of the stadium at approximately 40-feet-wide by 25-feet-tall, video of live game action, replays, advertisements and announcements never before available during the Zips football gameday experience will be on display. There are two other scoreboard and video screen areas within the stadium that will enhance the gameday experience. A side ribbon board running along the east side upper deck will provide basic in-game information and on the north endzone building, there is a small scoreboard complete with game clock, game score, yards and downs to go, ball possession and play clock.Extra Points: During the visit to learn more about the scoreboard and video screen structure, the hillside behind the south endzone was receiving sod and the netting behind each goal post was also being put into place.Check back with GoZips.com next week for a sneak peek inside the Club Level of InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field. They are aluminum platforms that replace the top five rows of seating in the lower bowl. They seat supplier must prove that the regular seating can be removed and the temporary ADA seating can be installed as specified in the contract. If you look at cam1 and scan the lower bowl of the west tower you can see where the seat removal is underway to test the west side ADA seating. Quickzips
I can tell you that the East Stands do appear to be getting a 3 light pole look. Drove by there on my way home from work. Honestly, I don't really care how many light poles they put up so long as I don't have to look around them to see the game.

Honestly, I don't really care how many light poles they put up so long as I don't have to look around them to see the game.I'm totally thrilled UofA is no longer the lone Div 1A or FBS school with lights on the field.I'm just disappointed they had five towers on top of the east side stands in the graphics and decided to go with three poles behind the stands. The five towers look reminded me of the major college stadiums around the country. The three poles look behind the stands is too HS for me. I did post a picture of Malone Stadium La-Monroe that had three poles that looked halfway decent. But, I would much perfered the 5 towers on top of the stands Vs three poles behind the stands. But, I'm okay as long as there enough lighting for TV something that was a problem with Rubber Bowl along with the lights being on the field. I still love the Info too this point and I'm not going to too disappointed losing the five pole look. I'm just thrilled the Rubber Bowl will soon be history and UofA is finally on campus. Zipsrifle
That seems to me folks like we're looking at 99.9% of the finished product. I know there is a lot more to do behind the scenes, but for what we can see on the cams, I think that is about it. I can still remember those first pics I saw of a few guys and some rebar. This place is flat out amazing....just about everything I was hoping for and more! Kudos to UA for stepping up to the plate and smashing this thing over the wall!
