Blue & Gold
Here's a great story on Ryan Bain from the front page of today's ABJ Sports section. The story occupies the vast majority of the front page today and includes a most excellent pic of Bain blowing up a sled! Good job ABJ!http://www.ohio.com/sports/17077551.htmlHe's going to be a BEAST!
Dr Z
Good read. Sounds like the perfect player in 3-4. Should help with our defense too.#92 huh? Reminds me of Michael Dean Perry and his McDonald's burger, the MDP."I'm so hungry, I can eat 92 of them" (I wish I could provide an image of Michael holding the MDP to go with this)
johnnyzip84
The cynic in me keeps whispering "yeah, but he's getting in the backfield against THIS offense", but my overall impession is that this guy seems to be for real and the Zips are extremely fortunate that he sort of landed in our lap. Now I'm really upset that I'm going to miss the spring game due to being in Chicago that weekend. Does anyone know if 1350 will be streaming it over the Internet? There are numerous options for word play with Ryan. How about a take on Clubber Lang's prediction before his 1st fight with Rocky? French: How do you see the battle for the wagon wheel shaping up this afternoon, coach? JD: One word "B-A-A-A-A-I-N-N-N-N!!!!"Or we can refer to BOTH the Rubber Bowl (in its last year) and Infocision (in its 1st year) as "Houses of BAIN"
InTheZone
People underestimate the dependency of the 3-3-5 on defensive lineman who can wreak havoc. The d-lineman in this system don't make many tackles per say, but they are depended upon to make PLAYS all day by getting penetration and requiring attention from mulitple blockers. Ryan Bain will certainly require the attention of mulitple blockers, which is going to free up our LB's to make plays all day. Kevin Grant should take him out for a steak dinner after every game. Captain Kangaroo
Kevin Grant should take him out for a steak dinner after every gameThat's an astute observation. Grant was perceived to have a bad 2007 campaign...but the loss of Kiki...and subsequent replacement by Nate Robinson...didn't do the LB's any favors in '07. JD desired to utilize the 3-3-5 defense because it is generally so difficult to get great D-linemen at the mid-major level. So a defense designed to only need 3 DL's must be more advantageous to our situation than a 4-3, right? However, for the 3-3-5 D to be hitting on all cylinders, it is imperative that your D-linemen, because there are only 3 up front, be extremely good D-linemen. Interesting point and almost seems like the plight of the mid-major is a damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't scenario.
RACER
the biggest problem the defense had last year was the zips offense.i thought for the most part the defense played well enoughto win games.i don't care how good of d-line we have if they are on the feild alott eventually they will wear out.plus the nose guard can be double teamed all day,and someone else has to make some plays.i just don't think with our defense 3-3-5 the noseguard can be taken out of every play.
