Quickzips
Why are we recruiting so many short WR's???
johnnyzip84
On the negative side, the Zips recently lost out to Michigan St. for 4-star OL Nate Klatt of Northwest HS in Canal Fulton (not that we had a great chance of landing him in the 1st place, but we DID offer).Link

Dr Z
You need quick shifty receivers when you use the run & shoot. Just ask Mouse Davis.

Can anyone say Gerald McNeill, Richard Johnson, and Clarence Verdun and Ricky Sanders? Just ask Jack Pardee!!!
Quickzips
You need quick shifty receivers when you use the run & shoot yourself in the foot. Just ask Mouse Davis. There, that sounds more like our offensive scheme.
zipsbandman
I am unimpressed by the recruiting. Now that we need to recruit real student athletes, we are bringing in guys as big as myself. I wonder if kids sense that we are at the end of a coaching cycle and realize that the zips are not going to win. We should be bringing in the best classes in this conference. I do not like where the program is going right now.
Blue & Gold
I was thinking the same thing. I'm the same size as this kid. When I go to a D-1 college football game I want to see skilled position athletes that blow me away! I want to pay money to see athletes that leave me in shock-and-awe; athletes that cause me to say, "Whoa! How on earth does someone that size move like that?!?!" I'm 5'8" 175 and pretty athletic (if I do say so myself ). But I have no doubt that this kid could certainly run circles around me. But I wanna see WR's that can run circles around me and that are 6'2". I want to take friends to Zips' games that normally don't go to Zips games and have them be blown away by the athletes on the field, not look at the roster and say, "Man, he's small." It just adds to the area's disgusting misconception that, "ANYONE can play at Akron, right? A 3rd stringer from McKinley could start at Akron, right? Massillon would beat UA by 4 touchdowns, right?" Maybe this dude will be another David Harvey (athletically - not academically!). David was an underwhelming physical specimen but, man-oh-man, a flat-out player. But 5'9" 170 just doesn't pass the D-1 eyeball test. Sounds more like a Malone, Walsh, Mount Union or Can't WR.
Quickzips
We currently have 12 WR's on our roster, 8 of them are 6'0" or under. We've only got 1 reciever on the roster who is over 6'2" and he's a freshman walkon. For 2009 we already have commits from 2 WR's measuring in at 5'9" each. I understand the trend recently in football is to go more towards smaller, quicker WR's who can make plays in the open field and thats what we've been trying to do with whatever god awful excuse for an offense we've been running. Maybe I'm too old school, but I like me some big WR's. Give me some 6'3", 6'4", 6'5" guys who you can throw the ball up to and let them use that height advantage against traditionally smaller DB's. I understand it isn't just as simple as saying we want tall WR's and bam there they are, but with the trend going toward smaller quicker WR's you'd have to imagine that more big WR's are slipping through the recruiting cracks. But what do I know.
