The old-timers here frequently write about the Mackey-Huggins, McFadden/McLughlin era. It now seems to be back, in a big way. I see the Zips/CSU tilt this year being an 8k+ crowd...with maybe even 10k being possible. Absolutely electric environment. The Cleveland media will push it hard. It's fun to see two really strong, NCAA Tourney-caliber basketball programs in NE Ohio again. K.e.n.t.'s still slightly visible in the rear-view mirror...but they're fading fast.

I'll be there. Always nice to be able to add a short-drive away game to the home schedule, especially in a nice facility against a tough opponent.Maybe we can have an official Zips bar/restaurant for food/drink before/after the game as we do for the MAC tournament.

8K-10K is probably a bit optimistic IMO. CSU and Akron (sadly) just don't draw that well individually to begin with. CSU only drew a little over 12K to the Q this past season to play Ohio State, and we all know how much Clevelanders will fall all over themselves for anything Scarlet and Grey (granted they do so in football a lot more than hoops, but the point remains). A lot of it will depend on the circumstances. If that game is one of the first few of the season you will probably see 5-6K. If the game is later in the OOC season and both teams have had strong showings out of the gate you could push 8K. If both teams stumble out of the gate you may only see 3-4K. Even those numbers may be optimistic. These two teams only drew 2,716 to the JAR this past season.

What you see in your rear-view mirror is a K.E.N.T. felon chasing your car with a crowbar hopingto mug you or punch out a woman. Old habits die hard.:screwks:

Too bad there isn't any watering hole in the CSU vicinity. Is The Rascal House still open?Everything near The Q is a serious walk to the Wollstein center...at least in Cleveland, during the winter, it can be pretty rough.Tailgate Party, anyone?

A party bus is pretty cheap. It's the strippers that drive up the cost of the trip.Show up? I hope they kick their butts.

I'll have that 1986 classic at the JAR etched in my brain forever. And that's probably also why I was quite disappointed that the game last season at the JAR only drew 2,700 fans, with both programs being at high levels again, just like the 1986 game. That game 25 yrs. ago would have drawn four times that many people, if they had only let them all in the door. So, it seems there's a looooong way to go to have this rivalry "back, in a big way".Ken+ might continue to drift further into the rear view mirror if they continue to have players sitting at the police station and the courthouses

Searching Bing Maps online, the only really close bar/grill/tavern is Peabody, a block north of the Wolstein Center. The next closest places are 5-6 blocks east -- Bricco, Rathskeller, Wilbert's, Becky's, Local Heroes Grill and Bar, Winking Lizard Tavern, Otto Moser's Restaurant, Winsor's, and Clevelander Bar and Grill.Bricco is the only one I have experience with, having eaten several times at the Akron location. They have a nice menu and a decent selection of wine and beer.Anyone have any experience with any of the other joints?

Becky's is classic college bar with interestingly enough pretty decent food. It would be a great place to meet before the game, but I would guess Bricco would be closer -- although it would be far more expensive.

You've never been to the Winking Lizard?

No, I've never been to the Winking Lizard. Have I missed one of life's great experiences? :) I'm OK with any place that has a minimum of a decent burger and a beer selection that includes at least one IPA.If Peabody's is out, the next closest place is at least 4 blocks away. Many, including the Winking Lizard, are more like 5-6 blocks away (about a half-mile walk).Below is a link to "What's Nearby" the Wolstein Center on Bing Maps so everyone can count the blocks to the various establishments.Bing Maps

I heard there's a new restaurant called "Applebee's" in the area too. Anyone ever heard of it?

Go to the Mardi Gras Lounge before the game. The food is really good. If memory serves me correct, doesn't CSU serve beer at games? If so, grab a quick bite and go to the game early. You probably wouldn't want to walk from Mardi Gras to the game, but it is very close.

Otto Mosers has great food....at least they did 20+ years ago. Not really a drinking place though...if my memory is correct. But the place was near the current Q...did they relocate??

There are many places located between the Wolstein Center and the Q.If you use Bing Maps to get walking directions from the Wolstein Center to the Q, it says the distance is .8 miles. That means that a place located .4 mile east of the Q is going to be .4 mile west of the Wolstein Center. So it's entirely possible that there are places that people have walked to from the Q that would be roughly the same walking distance from the Wolstein Center. So, for example, it appears that Otto Moser's is .5 mile east of the Q and .3 mile west of the Wolstein Center. The Winking Lizard is about .2 miles east of the Q and .6 miles west of the Wolstein Center.Mardi Gras Lounge is about .75 mile north of the Wolstein Center.Bing Maps Walking Route from Wolstein Center to Q

Otto Moser's is sounding better and better.First, it's only .3 mile from the Wolstein Center.Second, it's a deli, and I like delis.Third, W.C. Fields ate there, and I like W.C. Fields.Fourth, it's the oldest restaurant in Cleveland (established 1893), which means it hasn't lost any lawsuits related to customers being killed by food poisoning.Fifth, they have a full bar, including a good selection of beers.
