  2. For anyone interested, former Zip Elliot Bradbrook has been captaining 5th tier English side Dartford FC since 2010. Obviously not the most prestigious league (only the top 4 leagues in England are considered full-time professionals), but still cool to see that he is still playing. Here's his bio from their website

  3. They do pictures late spring/early summer. He probably had not arrived on campus yet. They do not do updates throughout the year on photos.

  6. He certainly appears to have a better chance to contribute EARLY at UA. I hope he can hit like Bre Ford, because we missed that element when #23 went out early in the U@B game. Bre wasn't particularly quick or fast and he gave away height to just about every opponent, but he sure could deliver a pop. I might be in the minority, but I really like what I see of RB Van Edwards, particularly his vision and cutback ability. The class is shaping up in the home stretch, but I'd still like to see a few more O-linemen.

  8. Thinking out loud: Require Dambrot to play two money games a year. Go into the lion's den & play two B1G big boys on their home courts. Not Northwestern. I'm talking teams that resonate more with Joe Akron - Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Ohio State. (I like the Penn State matchup.) Use the additional income to offset the financial loss of making the blue seats behind the visiting bench the student section.

  10. How Caleb Porter helped Wil Trapp fnd his way to the USMNT senior team. About a year ago, men’s national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann called Caleb Porter seeking some insight about the next generation of top American players. “I said, ‘There’s this kid Wil Trapp,’ ” said Porter, coach of the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer. ... For Porter, who coached Trapp at the University of Akron and has led the U.S. Under-23 team, this occasion has been a long time coming. “It was only a matter of time before Wil got this opportunity,” Porter said. “I remember vividly thinking after a certain game at Akron that this kid’s going to be our next potential national team holding midfielder. He just has a technical composure on the ball that’s rare for a holding mid and his intelligence tactically.” Speaking from Chile yesterday, Trapp said there is a mix of butterflies that come with anticipating his debut. “It’s something to be excited about, but I’m not going to let it bring me down or overthink it,” he said. “It’s been a good two weeks. I think I’ve been acclimating to the level and finding my feet a little bit. I’m excited to hopefully get to play.” ...

  11. I don't usually follow basketball recruiting...but these guys seem like pretty legit talent. This past year's class doesn't seem to bad either. I don't want to get ahead of myself here...but it seems like the Zips have a very bright future!

  12. So, despite the examples of other area venues that saw drastic attendance increases, we still don't want a new arena because attendance might not increase... Ignoring the need for basic creature comforts, easier access, better concessions/team stores/restroom facilities, and the community college impression of the university let's be happy with putting some lipstick on the gym that's smaller than many Division I practice facilities. This is all "we" want Zips basketball to be, I'll shut up now.

  13. We don't have a disdain for Pohl, but we've seen the best that Pohl can do. He's enough to get you to 5-7...maybe 6-6...nothing more. We don't hate the guy, we simply think that the Zips can (and need to) do better at the QB position.
