  1. To all ZipsNation members - I want to put in writing the following - This site was created to allow Zips fans an venue to discuss the various athletic programs. There's no other reason. Rather than sit around with our thumbs up our butts waiting for media coverage, a few of us banded together and did something about it. It would be very easy to drop out and move to a back page of the MACbbs board like K.e.n.t. But I think that would be embarrassing. We created something nice here, with high functionality and a higher standard for content. When opposing fans visit our site, I want them to be impressed and think we are legit. I pay to maintain ZipsNation. Happily. I deal with all the a-hole opposing fans attempting to post, and a bunch of stuff that's invisible to the general public too. I'll sit in a dark Subway parking lot at 10 pm, after a 14 hour work day, talking to some Marshall Podcasters/bloggers to help promote the Zips and ZipsNation. Whatever it takes. Dr. Z has done yeoman's work to ensure to make it look sharp, and install upgrades. He also gives us great pics, which you don't get on other MAC boards. This site has to be about Zips athletics, and fun. It can't exist to cyber-bully other fans. I do not want good people to avoid posting for fear someone will threaten, or just be downright disrespectful to them. Can you tweak someone's nose? Yes. Can you have a passionate debate? Yes. Can you say "The AD sucks!" Yes. But when it gets to the level of "Meet me behind the church after school..." or "Suck <insert something lame>", that's not acceptable. It can't be. One of our posters was a bit out of line the other day, and penned an apology. It takes a man to do that. It isn't easy. It's 100% accepted, and we move onward. I've got around 10,000 posts here. I'm pretty happy with most of them. A couple... I wish I hadn't posted. And I've had to apologize. It happens. I hope K'92 returns to posting. The backbone of this board is the guy that travels to Wisconsin and posts a trip recap complete with a humungous soft pretzel pic. I wish we had 100 more of him. Times are great for Zips football. We've won 7-of-8 games, with the lone loss coming at Wisconsin. Compare that to the Brookhart recruits on Bowden's first team - they won 6 games in their entire 4-year careers! This weekend should be a blast. Great weather and a great home opponent. And I look forward to seeing what that guy under the scoreboard has cooking in his smoker.

  2. One interesting note from this game as I watched it on TV - If you'd have told me I'd be hearing the Akron fans in the stands loud and clear over the Marshall crowd, I'd have said you were nuts. But you could. Nice job Zips road warriors!

  3. While my handle is "Akron4ever" I have only been a fan since 2014 due to a personal connection to the program. I had no plans on being an Akron football fan (especially after my personal connection to the program ends), as I am a Georgia Tech graduate and die-hard supporter of their sports, and never entertained the idea for rooting for another team. Akron and ZipsNation has given me another team to root for and follow, and I plan on being a supporter long after this season. The first year I truly started following the program was last year, and this board is a great resource for someone like me who loves college football and whose previous exposure to the Zips is literally nothing. I know this really has nothing to do with the post above, but I think you all will appreciate that this board is a huge reason why Akron football will have a supporter down South for years to come. Go Zips!

  4. Considering Bama beat USC by 46 and Kent lost to an FCS team that actually sounds low...

  5. We expected a good game and got more than we bargained for. You outplayed us in every aspect of the game and delivered a beat down. Best of luck the rest of the way. You showed us today how much work we have to do to survive the rest of our schedule. I can't speak for other Herd fans but you got my respect.

  6. Thanks for stopping by with the good wishes. Can you show me anybody in WV that expected a "good game" before noon on Saturday? I saw lots of these predictions. Thunder in Paradise Prediction – Marshall 49 – Akron 17 I suspect the Zips will hit a couple of big plays against a Marshall secondary still trying to find itself. That same secondary will also come up with at least two turnovers, thanks in part to a Thundering Herd pass rush that should begin to overwhelm the Akron offensive line in the second half. On the offensive side of the ball, Litton and company will have another big day through the air. But, I also look for Marshall to establish more of a consistent ground game in week two than it did in week one, after a mediocre performance by the Herd offensive line in run blocking. Good luck the rest of the season. Wish we could play every year, always love playing Marshall.

  8. However, since the injury has already happened, we can cheer for the coach to do what's best for the young athlete, and keep him out so that he recovers fully and is ready for the remainder of the season.

  10. The defense is going to have a lot of studying to do this week. Here are just a few personnel sets from the beginning of the first quarter in Tennessee. Both starting RB's for Akron and Appalachian State are questionable to play this weekend. (see injury list at bottom) Replay of Appalachian State vs Miami Hurricanes here. Great crowd.

  11. No one was taking pot shots, cheap shots, or personal attacks at the "naysayers". We're just pointing out that perhaps ZipsNation (not the website, but the fandom) would benefit from not overreacting to one game. The sky is not falling, we need to take a step back and remain calm. In the words of Tom Brady: "Relax". We finally have watchable, fun and enjoyable Zips football. As for leaving; I sincerely hope it was the alcohol talking. I left earlier this year because I wasn't finding anything with the University of Akron enjoyable at the time, and I had a lot going on in my personal life. I decided to give the forum another chance, because...we're actually winning! There is something to enjoy about the University of Akron at this moment in time. I also would personally like to note on the side, completely unrelated to you Keener, that there seems to be a few more lurkers posting than there used to be. I love it! That's a good direction for the forum, and hopefully we can continue to get some views that are different and unique.

  13. PM. I will try to do it in the next day or two, obviously it takes 3 hours in real time. It will be on DVD-R media. Should be readable in most any player. I don't want your money.

  16. I wonder how disappointed our opponent's fans would be if they had to pay $6.95 for our crappy broadcast?
