  1. Gold on the ceiling would be a good pick. Gold... Get it?

  2. I was one of the first members of the AK-Rowdies. Me and my buddy attended every football and basketball game. I changed the lyrics to "For Boston" and taught everyone on the bus to Detroit for the bowl game. Do do they still do the AK... ROWDIE! Chant anymore? Nothing was better than when we invaded the ksu student section and flipped out shirts inside out, screaming ak rowdy and jumping around. As for a song, can we contact VEC and pay them for the song, maybe even get it polished up a little. For its time and budget it was a pretty good hook. As a backup plan, pick something by the Black Keys, even play the YouTube video where they give a shoutout to Akron, Swensons and Luigis.

  3. If true this is best for Marcus & I'm 100% all for it... but of course disappointed because I enjoy watching him play so much. Here's to a speedy and full recovery and to representing the Zips well in the NFL. P.s. It's been pretty obvious he's been playing hurt this year.

  4. Everything I am hearing is that scouts are coming out to practice in droves (significantly more than last year), and they are there to only look at him. To the point where when he isn't practicing, they go and talk to Stroud/Marcus and then leave. It's not that I think he was a guaranteed 1st round pick before the injury, although I do think he will put up 1st round measurables if healthy. There is a picture floating around online of him as an 18 year old at OSU, and his measurables even at that age are off the charts - and better than a lot of guys getting drafted in the top 3 rounds. I'll see if I can find it and will post here. I guess what I am saying is I think unless something crazy happens (off-the field, unsuccessful surgery, etc.), he is a guarantee to go in the top 3-4 rounds with or without this injury. If he had played this whole season hurt, required surgery after the year, and was unable to participate in the Combine/Pro Day with teams knowing he was pending surgery, that would be a different story. I just can't see him not blowing away the Combine and a team not getting enamored with his physical abilities. Chuck Smith (who a lot of NFL people consider the best pass rush coach in the world), went on ESPN radio last week and was asked "Who are the next-generation pass rushers?" He mentioned 3 guys - Arden Key (LSU), Charles Harris (Mizzou), and Jamal Marcus. EDIT: Okay, I found the picture. Again, this is before his sophomore year at OSU when he was 18 years old (and this is clearly official OSU documentation). Take a look at the 10 yard split. Now I am not going to get into the whole "was it hand or laser timed?" question, because it is beside the point and we have no way of knowing anyway. However for a little context, Von Miller's split at the Combine was a 1.57, and he was obviously Combine-prepped and a few years older than Marcus when he had the 1.47. Then you look at the 28 bench press reps (with Miller putting up 21) and the picture starts to get a little more clear about the type of athlete we are talking about here. I am in NO WAY saying Marcus is on Miller's level or will ever be, but I think NFL scouts/coaches will look at his measurables and think, "Man, if you give me a few years with this kid, the opportunities are endless." I believe Marcus is now a legit 6'2 250 as well.

  6. Fellas, I was only joking about the Chrissie Hynde thing. I like the Pretenders (yeah, largely because Chrissie's from Akron), but The Black Keys is where it's at right now. (Truth be told, I'm not a huge Black Keys fan either. But I also like them largely because they're from Akron.)

  7. Because we might get someone better than the other guys who are waiting in the wings to become the next starters? We should always be looking for better talent.

  8. Quarterback is THE most important position on the team. Competition, injuries, unknown, etc... Never stop trying to create quality depth on your roster. If we get to the level where a player transfers out of Akron, and makes some sort of noise in FBS, we will be too busy enjoying the football team to notice.

  10. Still, regardless of the fact of whether it mentions Akron, or is a "pump up" song, I think it could still be played at a timeout. Throw in a Joe Walsh song or a DEVO song too. They are all from local artists, and generate some local pride. They have more value in connecting with our fans than some random rap song, don't you think?

  11. No. Futbol is the most common language ever spoken by mankind. Verbal discourse is not nearly as important as chemistry on the pitch. Recruiting from all corners of the world is a strength, not a weakness.

  13. Wow, this board has been quite void of discussion before today. Today and last night, there has been some great discussion. I still have faith in this team. Stuart, Sam, and Jon Lewis will need some time to get acclimated to each other up front. The 3 of them will figure it out and start putting the ball in the back of the net. This team did not expect to face this kind of adversity. They will have to win on the road in the round of 32 all the way to the quarters if they make the NCAA's ....but I plan on doing some traveling to see the zips in those NCAA matches. To reply to zippypitt's observation....I would clearly say "no" that too many team members from around the world is not the problem. This team and its players benefit greatly from experiencing different cultures and learning from soccer wisdom from those countries. The USA kids will have better and more rounded lives going forward from playing with and learning from new Zealand players, Portugal players, Brazilian players, spanish players and australian players. Soccer is a universal game and I like that Akron has a mixture of quality young men from many different countries. The international players are a long way from home and they deserve our support.

  14. The Black Keys wrote a song about Akron, but it might just confuse people when we play OU.
