The shortcomings of the ABJ's seem very minor when compared to the Zip's epic failures to produce a watchable video feed. No play by play, no scoreboard, etc, etc. It's at a level that is actually laughable. I love the game and the players but it seems that my interest is beginning to wane. The unfortunate part of all of this is that the Athletic Department seems not to care.3 points

“People are always talking about a new arena or renovated arena,” Akron coach Keith Dambrot said. “I’ve been here 12-plus years now and I think we’ve lost only 23 games. I don’t know if I want a new arena to be honest with you. Just keep giving me those wins here.” Dont' worry KD, you'll beat Radford and American just fine at the new barn too2 points

That was a perfect opportunity to use GOLD inside of those blue outlined numbers, just like the current soccer jerseys. It would have looked awesome. Unfortunately, that wouldn't have helped that Script Akron that's difficult to read also, even sitting less that 10 rows from the floor. I guess I need to start wearing my glasses to the game. Something I've never done before. It's puzzling why the visual problem from any kind of distance wasn't discovered before we went with this design.2 points

Obviously not the result we wanted but positives from the game started very well and should of had a penalty and hit the post during the 1st half. once IU scored (off an Akron mistake), was hard to break them down. the team has a bright future. I'm calling g a 2nd star within 2 years2 points

Ga. Southern comes in at 1-2 with their sole win being over NAIA member school Coastal Georgia by a count of 92-43. However, one of their losses was a nail biter to NC State, 79-81. Their leading scorer is 6-4 G Ike Smith, who's pouring in over 20 PPG. Ike is followed in scoring by 5-11 G Tookie Brown (who plays almost the entire game) and.... wait for it... B.J. Gladden, yes, former Zip BJ Gladden, coming in at 11.7 PPG. No other Georgia Southern player comes close to averaging double digits. BJ will be geared up for this game, but I'm going with a Zips win. If BJ Gladden is your 3rd-leading scorer, the Zips should be able to shut down the offensively-challenged Georgia Southern Eagles. P.s. For those who haven't seen BJ play, he's a cool dude. Just wanted more PT than would have been available for him at UA. BJ's got an NBA physique but the game always seemed to move just a little too quickly for him at this level.1 point

Will be interesting to see which former Zips are invited to January camp and what this may mean, if anything, for our previous head coach.1 point

For anyone still following the Mens Tournament, there is another Akron connection besides Phil Fives at Indiana... http://www.siuecougars.com/sports/m-soccer/coaches/berger_billy?view=bio SIUE - Director of Operations Billy Berger begins his fourth year with SIUE men's soccer program in 2016, and his second as the full-time Director of Operations. Berger previously spent two seasons on staff as a graduate assistant. Berger is directly involved in all off-field activities for the program including practice planning, travel, and video operations. Prior to coming to SIUE, Berger worked as the team manager for the Akron men's soccer program from 2009-2012. He assisted the Zips' coaching staff with training, equipment management, game day preparation and video analysis. During Berger's time with Akron, the Zips won the NCAA Championship in 2010 and finished as the NCAA Runner-Up in 2009. He graduated from Akron in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in sports management. He earned a master's in Kinesiology from SIUE in 2016. A native of Columbia Station, Ohio, Berger spent the 2012 season as an Assistant Varsity Coach at Columbia High School. He was named the Assistant Coach of the Year in Lorain County.1 point

Yep,as I said 'beat the East' that included BGSU,UB and OU and you are in by tiebreaker if nothing else. Didn't really need Toledo if you take care of the Division games. And,those 3 East games certainly 'looked' more winnable than Toledo at the time. It is hard to believe the Miami team we saw early can go to Detroit and/or a bowl game.1 point

Akron Fight Song! Chorus We cheer the Akron Blue and Gold, We cheer as the colors unfold. We pledge anew, we're all for you, As the team goes crashing through, Fight! Fight! We cheer the Akron warriors bold, For a fight that's a sight to behold, So we stand up, and cheer and shout, For the Akron Blue and Gold! Zzzip! Zip go the Zippers! Zzzip! Zip go the Zippers! Akron U, Gold and Blue, All for you, and the Zippers too! (to chorus) Did you know? The University of Akron’s fight song, “The Akron Blue and Gold,” was written in 1939 by Fred Waring, nationally known composer and leader of the wildly-popular band, “Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians.” In response to a request from the University’s student newspaper, Waring wrote “a distinctive song” for The University of Akron. “The Akron Blue and Gold” premiered over his NBC hookup on November 17, 1939, and has been used as the University’s fight song ever since.1 point

Exactly. Who knows, with a new arena we may actually be able to bring in some competition worth the price of admission?1 point

Disappointing result but at least we weren't the number one seed and got ousted by Providence. Wow.1 point

The new uniforms are just awful. Watching on the absurd ca. 2001 video feed I could not make out the numbers at all.1 point

I didn't think anyone else would have noticed that. Poke and Kwan were the only frontcourt players on the floor at one time, and Poke was guarding their center. I know the guy is 6'-8", and can get off the floor, but I was still pretty surprised when I saw that, even though it was only for a short time.1 point

Game story? The Zips men and women didn't even make the On The Air box.1 point

Utomi had unbelievable offensive numbers in high school. I suspect his problem in getting on the floor has been his commitment to defense, which is always KD's priority. Defense can be a tough sell to a kid who scored 27 points a game in high school. Poke even played the 5 tonight, with Big Dog and Big Mike out. I'd like to see more of both of them, but I can't think of whose time I think they should take.1 point

So would I, if we WIN. Of the two of them, Gonzaga would have the greater impact, I agree.1 point
