  4. After six years in MLS with the Portland Timbers, Darlington Nagbe would be well served by a move to Europe this winter. ...Before you start debating the merits of going from MLS to the Scottish Premier League, you must first understand that Celtic is the league's powerhouse, a UEFA Champions League regular, and a team with rich history and a large, passionate fan base. It is also a team stacked with talent. If Nagbe has aspirations of climbing the ladder of European soccer, then joining Celtic would be a strong first step. This reality is what drove a talent like French forward Moussa Dembele to join Celtic last summer. Playing for Celtic would mean more European scouts watching him than currently watch him in MLS. Celtic is running away with the Scottish League title, and could have it essentially clinched before Nagbe would arrive, but there will still be important matches to play, such as the Old Firm derby against Rangers, and tough matches against the likes of Hearts and Aberdeen. It is a safe bet Nagbe has consulted with close friend and former college teammate Perry Kitchen, who left MLS for Scottish club Hearts last winter. Kitchen has enjoyed an excellent first year in Scotland, earning the captain's role for a Hearts team currently in third place. Kitchen's positive experience in Scotland could be the final evidence Nagbe needs to convince him a move to Celtic would be a worthwhile one. ...

  5. When the Zips lose games likes this, it imperils their chances of getting into the ACC (sorry, just resurrecting a ridiculous conversation from last year). The loss was about what I expected. I'd much rather see them with a road loss to Creighton than a home win against Adrian. It certainly prepares them better for the rest of the season.

  6. I still think my favorite JAR game was the Cleveland State matchup in December 1986. Both teams had just come off of NCAA tournaments, and both teams returned most of their arsenals. We won in overtime, in the most packed JAR I have ever seen. The students packed the bleachers on the West side while the Girls game was still being played beforehand. By the time the game started, they began letting people sit on the stairs. Then, they started letting them sit in front of the glass on the walking track. I don't remember any of us in those West stands sitting down the entire game. I've also gotten some clarity on the ongoing debate about whether that Cleveland State team was ranked. They WERE ranked at the start of that season (#20 AP), but had a loss against Memphis that knocked them out of the rankings before they came to the JAR. This source finally provided that info. for me. http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/cleveland-state/1987-schedule.html
