  1. Congratulations to 2017 Zips commit DB Reggie Corner (5-10, 195, Sr.), McKinley (Canton) on being named to the 2016 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Ohio Football Team as a member of the First Team DEFENSE which was announced recently by USA TODAY High School Sports.

  2. I agree about the severity of Woody's injury and have serious concerns about Woody returning to his former self. I think it's fair to say the coaches have, as well, based on recruiting and we will see a QB battle unfold during spring ball and camp. It looked like it might have been a tendonitis type of injury, which can be really tough. You can feel better one day and then be in crippling pain the next, and yes, weather can make it feel significantly worse. Hopefully he is getting the treatment he needs to get better. To me the question marks are: New punter? Gasser was OK but lacked distance and hang time New Kicker? O'Leary did alright with FGs after his nerves settled, but lacked leg on KO's. OL run blocking? - I am actually somewhat hopeful on this as they gained a ton of experience and showed some signs of improvement. We stayed fairly healthy at OL and the guys will be another year stronger. Council, Brown, Jordan, and Neely will help us build depth at this position, much needed. We have plenty of speed with or without Ball with Edwards and Morgan. Ball just gives us power, plus speed. DL - no commentary needed. We need help. 1-2 transfers could help stop the bleed if they are the right ones. I hope the returners are seeing tackling drills in their dreams. Let's see if Camara, Jest, or Moore can make big strides in the off-season. Moore has been injury prone. TE/FB role - this position was constantly in question due to injuries this year. MTB did a good job when he was healthy, but he not healthy for a good chunk of the season. Newman Williams has also been injury prone, limiting his ability to make an impact. MTB has one more year left, I believe. He could be a big impact player if healthy all year. MTB might also be able to provide some leadership if we are looking at a new QB next season. Where we will building on existing strength: Defensive Secondary - I feel like we are excellent in this area Gilbert at LB WRs RBs I am also expecting Alvin Davis and Shawn Featherstone to continue building upon on the flashes of greatness we saw emerging in 2016.

  3. Tim Rogers is definitely reputable, but it looks like he jumped the gun (if Jackson's mother is indeed disputing it). You can read my post from Sept. 23, 2015, for background on how I've gotten my information on Jackson (and Frankie Hughes). Outside of Kim Anderson still having a job (which he is for sure done after the season ... and supposedly Missouri is going to break the bank for a new coach to the tune of 3-plus million a year), everything else is playing out almost exactly how I thought/feared it would for him in Columbia. Still, the fact that Akron was runner up for Jackson and we know that Keith Dambrot isn't going anywhere, makes me believe that Jackson indeed will come to Akron. It just makes too much sense. It did back in 2015, but he fell for the allure of the SEC instead of situation.

  4. I put this on the same level as Texs losing to Kent.

  5. That seems about right to me. He is a long shot to make an MLS roster. Most likely find himself on a USL squad in 2017. He has good size, some speed, understands the game well, good in the air, very good 1v1 tackler. Concussion history remains a concern. I am definitely rooting for this all around swell guy. Me thinks the result in Indiana may have been different had he played. #ZipForever⚽️❤‼

  7. I'm not concerned whether Kent suddenly became a great team. I don't think that's the case. I'm just taking notice of the fact that they just showed they can win a high profile road game. On the "will the nation or Joe Akron take notice" discussion, I can tell you this: My wife came home from work yesterday, and the first thing she said to me was, "Did you hear that Kent beat Texas?". So please, some of you need to stop being in denial and realize that average sports fans and media outlets take far more notice of these kinds of wins. Even those who might never follow Kent Basketball. And it doesn't matter if Texas is a national powerhouse this year or not.

  8. Whether it brings Joe Akron out to the JAR or not, a win on the road against a mediocre Big-12 Texas squad has got to be better prep for wins in March than playing name-a-crappy-team at home in December. I'd gladly give up one or two of our home games for road games against P5 squads, decent or not.

  9. Not just mid majors. And not just Akron. Mid-major, high majors, everyone. So if everyone was seeing a low probability at the time that this kid would develop into the player he became, how could you have expected that Akron should have somehow had the magic crystal ball that should have seen it any differently?

  10. Not gonna happen. He doesn't have the pedigree. He is also too valuable to the Law school.
