The problem I find is, when I Google any individual sport, it defaults to that generic front page, and you have to then search for the correct sport through the list. This doesn't happen with other universities.2 points

Not enough good plays come to mind from Saturday, but there were a few. Obviously, Guiser's interception. Reinke's 4th down tackle on Barkley. Warren had some nice runs up the middle, I wish the play calling would have had more of that. PSU defenders were too quick when the Zips tried running anything outside. Kato showed some nice moves on a run up the middle. I've said this before, but if you are at the game watching the Akron defense, take a series or two and watch Alvin Davis, he amazes me at 165 pounds. He had two open field tackles on Barkley and Gesicki that were awesome. I'm not sure they showed this on tv or not because it was away from the play late. Gesicki lined up and the slot, and Alvin come up and played press cover on him. At the snap of the ball Alvin attacked him and got his hands inside his numbers and wrestled him for five yards up the field. Gesicki and Alvin talked at the end of the game at midfield, I wish I could have heard the conversation. Gesicki walked away from the conversation laughing. I was surprised how much time Denzel Butler played, I guess coach wasn't kidding when he said he had a good summer. PSU was as advertised. McSorley, Barkley, Gesicki were awesome, I'll be interested to see how upper teams defend them throughout the year. Time to get up off the mat, and come out swingin this Saturday!2 points

I think it's obvious why our Senior starting QB is not a team captain.2 points

Hey, guys, nothing I can say to help you, but I do want to point out the old truism, "You are never as good as you look in victory -- and never as bad as you may appear in a defeat." I think you have some good building blocks, esp. on offense, but had the misfortune to run into a Penn State team on a mission. The timing of Urban Meyer's comments that Penn State should have been among the 4 championship teams last year probably didn't help. Unrelated to you folks, of course, but those probably fanned the flames of discontent from last year just before Saturday's game. Many of us Penn State fans were unhappy about Franklin using Barkley on the kick-off and keeping the first string in for as long as he did. While I personally am still unhappy (fwiw) about Barkley and the kick-off, Franklin's comments about the first string were, "I've been in / seen games where the other team has come back from a big deficit to win." Youngstown State coming back against Pitt and UCLA overtaking TAMU bear witness to his view. Not sure that helps you, but offering the perspective fwiw. Wish you all the best the rest of the season! Keep the faith, and cheer on your young men and coaches -- they deserve respect because they are putting in the sweat equity to represent your University.2 points

It's been a hectic Labor Day weekend. Here is the belated write up on the Zips/Nittany Lions game. Thanks to Dr. Z for taking the time on his holiday weekend to create the layout. Akron - Penn State1 point

I think Woodson will be fine. He had equally bad numbers last year at Wisconsin and then threw for 390 and 4 touchdowns the next week at Marshall.1 point

I thought TW's behavior was detrimental to the team. The QB position on almost every team is the leader and in a leader you want them to be emotionally steady, not one who is up or down because of adversity. or good fortune. As a senior, where's the maturity? His ranting, shown often on TV, was not the actions of a mature leader. The offense is keying on the QB to lead them no matter the situation. I'm just a fan, not someone who has an inside line on team goings on. I'm definitely looking forward to this season and hoping for an improved team free from numerous injuries. I do keep up on team discussion here for both FB and BB. Thanks to all who contribute and I really enjoy the different viewpoints.1 point

This game likely won't tell us much. If the weather stays as projected, I'm hoping to be tailgating again by the end of the 3rd quarter. I hope.1 point

We literally *should* have a scrimmage next week. No reason not to be able to see what you have in both and go from there. Woody's issue could have easily been rust, maybe not. No reason to give up on someone who has proven to be a top 3-4 MAC QB when healthy because they play bad against a team who could very likely make the playoff. If he stinks it up against UAPB and Kato looks good, then go with him. I'd imagine Wolf would also help on those deep balls as he can actually go up and fight for them, unlike Bickley.1 point

If we want to be a 1-AA team I get that response. If we actually want to be a REAL D-1 team I can't accept that and I also got my understanding of what this team is. We stink. We really really stink. We need to get a LOT better for anyone to even give 2 shits about this team. I am so sick of people wussy footing around real expectations of a D-1 team. Yes we are in the MAC. No... I don't expect to win that game. However, I don't accept that outcome. Let me ask you... what would Toledo fans think if they just got ass beat 52-0. I can tell you... it would be WAY different. Alright, bring on the excuse makers.1 point

I did not watch the game...so for what it is worth...I have not posted anything about the PSU game....but I will say Kato did NOT impress in the Spring game, nor has he "lit it up" in practices...not being a know it all, just saying...1 point

Saying he is the future =/= saying he should start. But hey, the know-it-alls on here were just telling us how much Kato sucked a few weeks ago when a meaningless depth chart was released. You can lead a horse to water...1 point

Yeah, but don't forget De Vera....what jets that kid has. And his change-of-pace during a run from the back is phenomenal...and when it comes to attitude, The Enforcer last night was Ezana! Holthuzen could have had 2 more goals last night, IMO. The Zips looked so much more comfortable and inspired last night...more so than at UVS. It's gonna take the a few matches to work the new guys in. Hinds seems lost in the shuffle. Munch-Bishop sure likes to hear himself talk...but seemed to know his stuff, and having former Zip coach Oliver Slawson as his color man was a great last minute addition...Mark should have let Oliver talk more. Slawson's Ashland Golden Eagles got off to a solid 3-nil win over Malone to start....sorry malonepioneer12 !!1 point
