  1. +1. And don't force kids to recite creeds and pledges. They can decide to do it (or not) when they are of age to think for themselves.

  2. My expectations are set by what our peers like WMU, CMU, Toledo, and NIU have been able to achieve. I get it we'll likely never go 13-1, but considering we have the nicest facilities in the MAC and play in a recruiting hot bed, there is no reason we can't consistently win 7-10 games. There are few fan bases that would defend a coach that only had 1 winning season in 5 years. Perhaps that type of apathy and being content playing borderline .500 football is why Akron hasn't progressed to being more successful.

  3. President Wilson makes his rounds through the tailgaters every home game with his wife and kids. They actually take the time to engage in some meaningful conversation with the fans. Last game, they came into the southwest corner of Lot 9 off the Exchange Street sidewalk as some folks were throwing the football back and forth. He immediately started jogging across the lot with his arm extended asking for a pass. He grabbed the ball spun around and fired it back across the lot. It's hard not to like this guy. So far, he seems great.

  4. I don't gloss over the fact of what he has accomplished. He took an ianello destroyed 1-11 team to a program that has had 1 decent season in 5. The best season included us beating a 1-AA team and a run at the end of the season that pitted us up against the 5 worst teams in D-1 college football. The cherry on top was a bowl win to an under .500 Utah state team. Look... I enjoyed the last half of that season because we were winning, but I took it for what it was... lucky scheduling and a group a decent senior transfers + "jatav-e-us brown". We have since regressed to Lee Owens and JD Brookhart level teams. At least some of Lee Owens teams were fun to watch. They scored in bunches. Watching the current zips play is like sitting in the dentist chair, even when we win. Season 6 is obviously off to a rocky start. We will see how things turn out. Maybe Iowa State is a lot better than people think and we make a run through the rest of the schedule. I hope that is the case, but so far I have serious doubts.

  5. The next time he referrs to Brock Boxen as anyone else but Brock Berlin it will the first time. He isn't good with names. Can we please return to the discussions of why the Zips can't competete with Big 10 and Big 12 teams? I can't quite grasp that concept? We should be able to wax the programs that draw 60k to 100k fans to their stadiums? Must be bad coaching? Go Zips! Beat Troy!

  7. Used to watch Otto play indoors for the Cleveland Crunch and Force. He and PJ Johns, both keepers. I think they are also doing espn3 for the women's game following...

  8. Ding ding ding. I don't stand for the National Anthem at a movie or concert.

  9. I have an even easier solution: don't say the national anthem at sporting events to begin with. Why do we even do that at sporting events at all? The history of it is kinda murkey...apparently back in 1918 they started playing it during the 7th inning stretch in Baseball...some teams did prior to 1918, but really didn't hit off until WWII...

  10. I think it's because the 49ers stink and not Kaepernick.

  11. The only thing I can think of is that last year's WR class was considered to be weaker than this year's is projected to be. Maybe Jerome was trying to get a jump on the stiffer competition? Idk. But Jerome was just beginning to come into his own as a WR... at the COLLEGE level. But you're right, Balsy - every one of us knew he needed another year to refine his craft.

  12. The video caught me by surprise. I was talking to a friend when another friend tapped me on the shoulder to alert me to the Jason Taylor video... about a minute in. Afterward I gave the video about a 5-second standing ovation. But I guess that was the big moment.

  14. This format is actually very similar to the one I laid out when the program was cancelled. What's missing is to get other schools to join in so there's competitive balance. What it needs is a conference of cold weather baseball programs from the same area, some MAC East teams, YSU, a revived Clevaland State and Duquesne, and maybe some other programs that don't want to spend millions chasing the dream of a Superregional asskicking. Play less games, or play more games per week and start later in the year (April). No long travel trips to the Sunbelt. No shovelling money into the program (like the other sports) chasing a dream of someday competing against the powerhouses. And you're playing other D1 schools. All it takes is a change in how college $port$ are run. If this "self sustaining" method does come into play, I bet other schools will be watching closely. If it works, this idea might just happen.

  15. I also think it's pretty legit to post things on a sports forum just for a laugh. Every time someone does it, it honors the memory of Zipmeister.
