  1. Fortunately, there are lots of great Zips players from whom to choose in those years. Unfortunately, there are lots of great players who can't all be selected. No right or wrong to this; no way to prove which of these players would play better together than others. Soccer America may have chosen Kofi Sarkodie as a better player than Darlington Nagbe in 2010, but the 2010 MAC Hermann Trophy (best player in D1 college soccer) went to Darlington Nagbe. Kofi was a phenomenal RB for the Zips... no question. DeAndre Yedlin may not be perfect; no one is. However, DeAndre Yedlin has gone on to be the most successful professional to have ever come out of the Akron ZIps Men's Soccer program. Started his first year with the Sounders; playing in the EPL; 2014 USMNT World Cup team, etc. So, if someone votes for DeA over Kofi, they have reason to do so. There are also reasons others may vote otherwise. Choosing between 3 great goal keepers was equally difficult. There were reasons to vote for any of them. Voting for all of the other positions is going to be just as tough. In the end, to me, this all decade team is just something that gives us reason to think back on these great players and how lucky we've been that they chose to come to Akron, be a fellow student and alumnus, and to play for themselves and us. EDIT 2/25/20: convinced now that there is a right and wrong approach to this voting.

  3. I've said it before but this team goes with its defense. Hopefully they watched a ton of film over this break and figured some things out. When we're getting stops and getting into transition quickly, we're very hard to beat.

  4. this article does not talk about uniforms....but Darlington Nagbe will be wearing #6 for the Crew (Wil's old number) https://www.massivereport.com/2020/2/5/21125496/columbus-crew-replacing-wil-trapp-darlington-nagbe-artur-aidan-morris-sebastian-berhalter-mls-2020

  5. Nice, but Teal Bunbury is not eligible for this. Players who played 2010-19. Teal left after the 2009 season. (Drafted In January 2010 by the then Kansas City Wizards.)

  6. Bio of today's signees: https://gozips.com/news/2020/2/4/watch-as-akron-football-commitments-post-on-wednesday.aspx Interesting notes - Konata Mumpfield and Ryan Jankowski are going to greyshirt and enroll in spring of 2021, counting towards next year's class. So, assuming 26 total available, it appeared we were at 27 with today's signings, but are actually at 25. Its tough to find anything out there about a player being medically disqualified creating an extra "counter" and allowing a team to sign more than 25, but I'm trusting @ComettoZip's word there. With that, there is still potentially 1 open scholly out there. We are currently 9 under the limit and can maybe get it to 8. There is no doubt players will end up transferring. This handcuff is worth keeping in mind throughout the year. We are doing everything we can to get to a "level" playing field, with likely less talented players overall, while much of the stable opposition is looking for ways to shed players so that they can bring in more talented ones. 8. Listening to Groce on Zips Live. He said he gave the team Saturday and Sunday off, had general pre-season-like practices Monday and Tuesday, took Wednesday off and had EMU specific short practices for Thursday and Friday. As for EMU, Groce referenced their momentum and how they're playing great defense in the 2-3. Pointed out how important it is to get points in transition before they can set up the zone. Also mentioned how they are starting to click on offense recently too.
