  1. I think it may be time to abandon sports forums until the Covid passes. The Covid debates are ruining every sports forum I regularly visit. I have a strong feeling on masks but I realize I'm not going to change anyone's mind, nor is anyone going to change mine at this point. As such, reading the name calling and debates serves no other purpose than to frustrate the hell out of me. I can't wait until this passes and we can get back to talking about the teams.

  2. Stop with that both sides garbage. It's not about politics it's about science. You can look at reliable stats and see that the states which took this seriously are doing well and the ones who chose to ignore science and hope it would go away are exploding with the corona virus. The reason this issue is even important for Zipsnation is because it affects the university and the athletics. So leave your political stuff on a separate blog that is made for such. This isn't a political issue.

  3. I m trying to be hopeful. I've seen nearly 100% compliance in Akron. Also, there's a key stat i check every day and its called the "R" value. It measures how the virus is replicating in the community. In Ohio, it's come down from 1.18 to 1.0 in the last week or so. Under 1.0 means infections will slow. If it's over 1.0 it means it will spread. That being said, that number is only as good as the numbers coming in to them. But, as I said, I'm trying to be hopeful. Also, the percentage of positive tests is 6.2 which is high but nothing like Florida which is 18%. Michigan is around 2%. Back in April Ohio was at 24% but you could only get tested then if you had serious symptoms. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states/ohio. this is the site where you can follow the #s. https://rt.live/us/OH. This has the R7 factor. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/testing-positivity. This graph compares all the states for the percentage of positive tests.

  4. If you didn't want to get political, you wouldn't have written that.

  5. There is very little evidence that the protests increased the spread of covid. In fact, it supports the evidence that young people getting together in outdoor places is not much of a threat. Further, it supports that the vast majority of people who get covid will have mild symptoms and we should be focused on protecting those most vulnerable (over 60) and let everyone else get on with their lives as long as the health care system doesn't get over stressed. Don't worry, this will all be over come November 4th.

  6. Because this sentence caused the needle in my bullshit meter to spike, could you please provide a source to support it?

  7. Not unless the move is permanent. It isn't realistic to have only 1-2 months between seasons. I heard a former Big Ten coach say that when a player played 1,000 game plays, that player didn't have a full spring practice participation because the body had to heal. Once a player played 2,000 game plays, that player hardly practiced at all in the spring because he really doesn't need the practice and is probably one of the better players regardless of practice. That player probably started freshman and sophomore seasons, and is probably on his way to the NFL after his junior season.

  8. Sports will be back again, but it can't possibly come back the way it was before. An old business saying is, "What got us here won't get us there". Normal that applies to a growing, successful business. However, the opposite is true for the MAC. G5 schools desperately need to do something different. It isn't FCS or D2, but it's something they need to figure out. A new division?... Maybe. Remaining in the largest division when the P5 schools go their own way?.... Maybe. I'd prefer G5 schools to take the initiative instead of waiting to get dumped and then in full panic. Being proactive is the key.

  9. Thanks @TennZip With the return of EPL, then MLS, and now USL, I've been enjoying seeing our former Zips in action. With the financial situation at UA, I haven't been on the board too much. It's too depressing. I feel bad for the staff losing their jobs and for the athletes losing their Zips teams and the support they deserve. The people who should be losing their jobs are the ones who have failed and continue to fail to lead UA's academic programs as well as athletics. For example, the Navy invested in a one-of-a kind corrosion engineering program at UA, about which I hear nothing. What is happening with that program. How about other STEM-type programs...Is UA winning its share of work under various government and other R&D solicitations? As far as athletics, where's the marketing? I suggested some time ago that UA needs to offer customization of the apparel it sells. Is it really that difficult to that in this day and age of internet business. I notice on this board that various fans seem to have their favorite UA logo...the Z, the ARoo, the kangaroo, the moving A...Can't UA make it possible to buy apparel with your favorite UA-licensed logo. And why not make it possible for any fan to buy some of the special apparel given away to donors that give certain amounts...free to certain level donors, but charge otherwise. Are UA''s "big" donors that petty that they would prefer to have exclusive apparel that would still get free, but hat UA could sell to others and boost the bottom-line. I hope our current Zips are well and that our international players are able to return to campus. Out of respect for all of them, I've not tried to go by campus and see if there's any conditioning, etc. going. I'd love to see them, but even though I don't have any health issues oh which I'm aware, I won't take a chance of carrying anything of which I may not be aware to our coaches, staff, and players.
