5:30 am? damn that's early. Makes me wonder what time they expect to get back. Great deal for students though.

zippyrifle32,Thank you for the reminder as to why I moved from Ohio. It's only Thanksgiving and the weather is like this already. That just blows.pic from ohio.com of crews trying to clear the field. -

From my understanding (and by no means am I any kind of expert), although soccer games can be played on artificial turf, they really should be played on grass. I've been told that the last time they used artificial turf in the championship game was when we took second back in the 80's. Since this is the tournament, it seems the NCAA allowed the use of an artificial turf as an emergency use, but now that they have a few days to properly plan, they send it to the school with a grass field. I haven't seen the field first hand, but it must have been really bad conditions to not only call off the first game, but to tell the NCAA it won't be ready by Sunday. The issue is the draining, but like some others have said, this is not something that can be changed overnight. HOPEFULLY we win and the field gets the tlc it needs to be able to play the next game at home because WE EARNED IT.

i have a hard time that they are just sitting back and allowing this to happen. they probably don't have much of a choice and were given some lame ass excuse as to why we have to play there. oh and back by request (i saved it from before):I just can't believe that Coach Caleb, our "flying-under-the-radar" AD Mac Whatsisname, or President Louie Pro are sitting back and allowing something like this to happen. -
I was talking to a custodian last night at the bball game and he was telling me that up to 5:00 they were still trying to shovel and plow to get the field ready. He mentioned something about trying to plow actually tore up the field worse, so no, it's not that unbelievable. we were lucky we were able to keep it in akron. I'm also assuming they are still saying TBA to give them time to finalize a deal to rent a field.

He looked a bit awkward out on the floor, but I was really glad to see him get some quality minutes. He needs to work on stepping up and being more assertive with the ball. It appeared to me that he has the desire to be the player KD wants, but just needs more development.

I've said from the beginning of the season that 6-6 or better and JD should probably stay and that 4-8 or worse and he should probably go. I've also thought that 5-7 would be the "toss up" record, where Rhodes/Proenza would really have a difficult choice. Given that, here are the conversations that I truly hope takes place this week.Proenza: "Mack, three in a row is something we simply can't tolerate heading into the opening of the Info next season. We can't tolerate losing the last three games of 2008 and we can't tolerate the 2008 season as being the 3rd losing season in a row. Do you understand?"Rhodes: "Yes Dr. Proenza"Rhodes: "It's make or break this week, JD. You need to defeat Temple on Friday, or someone else will be heading the show as we open the Info next year. That's just the way it is. And I have the utmost confidence that you'll do whatever is necessary this week in practice to give us the best chance of accomplishing this."JD: "We'll do what we can. What about the recruits we are already lining up? What about the talented RS class from this year?"Rhodes: "Relax, JD. If you win Friday, you'll get to coach them next year. If not, I believe the Info itself will recruit plenty of talent for the next head coach. And he'll also benefit greatly from this year's RS class. Either way, we certainly appreciate all you've done for UA while you've been here. Now go beat the Owls!"Tune in Next Week for the Next (Final?) Chapter of "As My Stomach Turns"
I also feel the need to clarify. I don't think JD should stay nor do I think he should go. I trust whatever decision Mack makes. I just get tired of the extremes we do out here, praising one guy as a god after a good game and then saying he should be put back on scout team where he belongs after another. Then again, all of you out here are football experts, and honestly I don't know enough about the game to know the in depth details of what should be done strategy wise.

I was there. They were down at halftime by 4 points. Instead of coming out and getting fired up they were sloppy and the bonnies were hot. They gave up a tone of rebounds, fouls, and couldn't finish even on layups. They were down by 15 or 16 with a little less than 8 minutes to go. What impressed me was watching the turning point where they collectively said as a team "we're not going to go down like this" and mounted an impressive comeback. Kara became their go-to person and she turned into a beast. However, it was all too little too late. If they came out the second half like they did for the last 8 minutes, they would have crushed the bonnies. Also, they lost by 4 and 2 points were earned off a Kest technical. She said something to the ref about missing a call at our end then calling a tick-tack foul against us. I don't blame her because the refs were aweful on both ends. I think we could have pulled it out if the bonnies missed some free throws. I think I only saw one they missed in the whole second half.

I was very disappointed last night after the pitt game. to the point that I almost don't want to be a fan anymore.I thought Bardo play terribly the man can get a rebound to save his live. He is never under the board like he should be.I lost a lot of respect for KD as well. And after reading the post here I can truelly saythat I am done with UA basketball.

They can't spell Special Teams either. Who's the Special Team's coach, fire Him! (I know its JD so he needs to fire himself).how do the Zips spell defense?..they can't...what a damn shame!
one game we're talking about how great the special teams are (block pat for 2pt safety?) and now they have a bad game and we're calling for the coach's job. we really are pathetic fans.

we've already played and beaten both teams, so no matter who the winner is we will have to beat them again. i'm routing for oakland. they didn't score as much on us.

So I went to Chick-fil-a last night. I saw two parking spots next together and was planning on taking one. Well the car in front of me conveniently took up both spots leaving me slightly annoyed and needing to park elsewhere. Three guys got out of the car and one of them was wearing a black MAC fleece that the league gives to athletes that participate in the MAC tournament. I parked and went in and one of the other guys was wearing a Can't State baseball sweatshirt with his number on it and everything. Well black fleece had a nasty bloodshot and bruised eye and was telling the cashier about how he got it. It turns out this guy was recently on the Jack Hanna show in New York and was boxed by a kangaroo. I chuckled to myself and thought "Ass beat by a kangaroo? Sounds about right"

For the majority of non-major sports, athletes have to initiate contact by sending them a letter of introduction and resume including athletic and academic achievements. If you sit around and wait for a coach to approach you, most likely you're still going to be waiting. Making a division-1 team is competitive, and athletes need to sell themselves.

michigan was 19-14 and went to the wnit quarterfinals last year. if that's a bottom dweller team than the big 10 is an amazing conference.

at least our field will get some time to recuperate

how does the #14 RPI, #16 nscaa/adidas ranked, #13 college soccer news ranked, Michigan State get the #4 seed above us? WTF?!
-
caption it and post it on the niu message board
Ya I think I am gonna caption this one as "FAIL!"
My favorite. I like the way the Akron Soccer sign goes with the face of defeat on the guy sitting infront of it. -
GREAT pictures!

I thought the same thing. Our hero was the very man coach D singled out at the end of last season as the go to guy for thisseason. Brett McKnight played his tail off the last six minutes of the game. Brett was the differencemaker. Sure, he was pulled when the Zips went on defense. And, why not, with Mike Bardo emergingas a force in the post on defense. It was an excellent move by the coaches and the kids handled it well.
