  1. there really are two schools of thought here, and i don't think it's fair to say one is smart and the other is dumb. it all just depends on the priorities of each kid. the first school is be a part of a winning team. you might ride the pine for a year, or the whole career, but you made it to a top level team and have a very good chance at getting a championship ring (even if you didn't play). just saying "i played bball for duke" automatically says something about your skill level and you get a certain level of respect. the second school of thought is wanting to play as much as possible (possibly even a star). go to a "lesser" school where you can make an immediate impact and possibly be the big man on campus. maybe you don't get the championships, but you're in it for the game and to have fun playing. of course the truly smart ones disregard either option above and look for the strongest academic program of interest first, then team second.

  2. ok, that letter is from the department of institutional marketing NOT the from anyone in the athletic department. although the blog says he was requesting the athletic department's contract, the sender is not in the athletic department. it could be that the university as a whole does not have a contract with either company, however the athletic department definitely does. it's a contract basically saying we're going to buy at least $1000 worth of gear in the next 5 years and in exchange you will give us a 50% discount. obviously the numbers i threw out there are not the real numbers, but i am 99.9% positive about the contract with adidas. btw, adidas gives the university catalogs to order from and many of the apparel items are found exclusively in the catalogs and of course someone else puts the akron logo on it all.

  3. “The Mid-American Conference and its member institutions are extremely excited with the release of the new conference marks. The MAC is rich with wonderful tradition dating back to 1946,” said, Rhoades. “The compilation of new marks embodies this history of excellence garnered in competition, in the classroom and in service to communities throughout the league, as well as the superbly talented student-athletes representing each of our quality member institutions.”
how?i see stuff like this all the time whenever they come out with a new label and wonder how they come up with such good sounding bs. i mean how does that mark reference anything to community or academics or whatever?
  4. akron looking mismatched is not the fault of having adidas gear. it is the coaches fault for not making the team all look the same. personally, it doesn't matter to me. each guy likes wearing certain things when warming up. also something that was mentioned to me once was that nike does their uniforms in true colors. so osu's scarlet is red, oregon's gold is yellow, etc. i'm sure they'll figure something out though because our athletic department has made a real effort to use a gold instead of piss yellow or dehydrated dark piss yellow. it would look bad for our mbball team to come out with god awful gold that completely clashes with the gold theme we have going with the rest of the athletic teams.

  5. I like the idea of keeping the Mayflower IF, IF, AND ONLY IF it can be converted to a dormitory for UA students or apartmental units. Just telling it like it is, but the crowd that resides there now is an absolutely perfect way of keeping young people & families w/ money to spend OUT of the immediate area.
Just a quick thought: what will happen with the space that the current football practice field occupies? This will be obsolete, following the completion of the stadium. Will UA keep this around for intramurals? Would there be room here for an arena to make a full sports complex? What're everyone's thoughts?
I would put money down that they keep it because they're not going to want to have the team practice all the time on the game field. They rent out facilities and it's easier to keep things maintained for game time when they limit the use of it. I would bet that football still uses the practice field as much as they have because it is exactly that - a practice field.
  6. With your logic, I guess I understand why K-S-U students consider all Akron students as drug dealing thugs... if we are going to apply stereotypes to entire student bodies LOL ;)
We sell em, you buy em... we're still on the better end of the deal :rolltide::screwks:
  7. This is the first statement I have seen thus far by anyone from UAhttp://www.akronnewsnow.com/news/itemdetai..._In_Court_Off_T
How can anyone still be a student yet not be allowed on campus or be able to attend any University function. Isn't classes a function of the University?
on that type of suspension you are not allowed to be on campus, so you are forced to miss class, practices, or any other activities. in the student handbook there is one somewhat vague clause that says if the dean of students feels that students, staff, or property of the university is in danger, they can forgo the usual student judicial process and do an emergency effective immediately suspension. the big wigs in the administration (especially student life) then have a hearing to decide whether it is permanent or they may come back and say the student is no longer suspended contingent upon something (rehab, therapy, etc). If it is decided that the student may return to school, the student will also have the aid of the administration to work with any academic things they might have missed. So technically, they are a student because they still are enrolled and stuff, whereas expulsion would mean they're not allowed back at all. It can be used as a step on the way to expulsion, or it could be used as a warning to get the student to get the help they need (whatever that might be). Given the circumstances of the situation though, it merits swift and immediate action instead of waiting around for the student judicial affairs stuff which is normal for student code of conduct violations.
  8. I'm worried the new stadium might be the end of all the tailgating fun. Are we suppose to tailgate in the parking deck? It would be nice if they bulldozed the Plasma center and turned that area into parking.
 you and your vendetta against the plasma center...
  9. Isn't Caleb Porter a Mack Rhodes hire? If so, then Mack definitely deserves a ton of credit for this particular hire. For all the grief Mack gets on this board, it seems as thought he couldn't have picked a better coach than Caleb.
I think Mike Waddell hired Caleb. Someone can correct me if I'm mistaken.
according to Mack's profile that goes in the media guides, they list Caleb's hiring as the first thing in the "time line of success". So I think Mack is given credit for it. I dunno...Why does he get so much grief out here? I've never understood that.
