i heard we're making the move to the pac-10

one of the comments from the pitt blog you referenced was something along the lines of:akron?! the place that makes youngstown look nice?that made me lol pretty hard.

it just seems like a better fit to have the odd corner next to the plasma center... now customers don't have to be inconvenienced by walking across exchange

sorry, just didn't make sense because the drawing was making the arches square without actually increasing the clearance at the highest point. and i'm going to make the assumption that the bridge between the jar and memorial will be torn down when they decide to tear down memorial. no need to have a bridge to nowhere.
They're implying that Zeke is so tall he won't be able to walk under the archways. TBS, Very Funny!i'm confused -
it's not drug paraphernalia, it's tobacco accessories. glass pipes, hookahs, water tobacco pipes... lol. i saw in one head shop brass knuckles labeled as a paper weight (thus legal). and what's really cool is that if you don't do drugs yourself they sell incense that smell like drugs...

who needs cheerleaders when you get to see all of the rifle girls (and guys) walk around the range in spandex?
Well I have to admit the only reason I attend the rifle matches is to watch the cheerleaders and dance squad, but when an occasional stray shot catches a spectator that's entertaining as well.
Forget soccer and bball, lets get that rifle dynasty started.Man, sounds like we are going to have a MONSTER team in a few years! I didn't know we were going to be this stacked. Imagine it.....The BB team makes a run deep into the NCAA tourney, and the Soccer and Rifle teams both win National Championships!good luck with that. if i was a betting person i would put my money on soccer first.

personally i like where the jar is (not necessarily the building). it's nice and convenient to have all of the sport facilities in one area.

Akron - The Zips will have a fresh look this year due to the loss of six seniors from the 2007 squad that were multi-year starters. However, the biggest news coming out of Akron is the fact that Caleb Porter has again attracted a recruiting class that boasts a ton of talent and looks to be among the top tier of classes in the country. A couple of seasons ago it looked like a slight window of opportunity existed for teams in the MAC to pick up a little ground on the Zips. In 2006 Northern Illinois University captured the MAC Tourney title and Akron did not receive an invite to the NCAA Tourney. However the Zips responded in 2007 with a 15-4-2 overall record that included a 4-0-1 mark in MAC play and the MAC regular season and tournament titles. Porter’s second consecutive stellar recruiting class likely signals that any window of opportunity that might have temporarily existed has now been closed. That is not to say that the MAC race in 2008 will not be competitive because it will be but Akron is clearly the elite team of the league and looks to be gaining rather than losing momentum. Last year the Zips earned a number fourteen seed in the NCAA Tourney but were one and out in NCAA Tourney play after being upset at home by South Florida 1-0 in overtime. The real measure of Akron’s success in the future will be their ability to continue to take care of business in MAC Conference play while securing wins over high profile non-conference opponents and putting together a decent run in NCAA Tourney play. In 2007 the Zips were extremely effective on the defensive side of the ball holding opponents to a total of only 13 goals. The biggest challenge facing Porter heading into the 2008 campaign will likely be finding a replacement for defender Corey Sipos (3g, 0a) who was the 2007 MAC Conference Player of the Year and a College Soccer News Third Team All-American.. The Zips will also be without backs Devin McKenney and Matt Augustin who were four year starters, veteran midfielders Elliot Bradbrook (5g, 2a) and Steve Kalan (2g, 5a), and forward Pablo Moreira (5g, 2a). The loss of so much experience and leadership may make what is a very difficult early schedule even more daunting for the Zips. Akron opens the season by traveling to Bloomington to face Notre Dame and Indiana in the IU Classic. They then return home to host West Virginia and Cincinnati from the Big East and then take to the road again to face New Mexico and Missouri State in Albuquerque. Despite the losses due to graduation, Akron returns a solid nucleus of players led by senior midfielder Matt Tutich (5g, 3a), senior defender Ossie Michalsen (0g, 2a) and senior goalkeeper Evan Bush. All three are First Team All-MAC selections with three years of starting experience under their belts. Sophomore forward Steve Zakuani (6g, 2a) returns to lead the Akron attack up-top. Zakuani is a prime timer who had an outstanding freshman season that included being named the MAC Newcomer of the Year, a College Soccer News All-Freshman Team selection, and an NSCAA First Team All-Great Lakes Region selection. Junior Stephen Ostergren (2g, 2a) is among other returning players who should vie for playing time up-top. Super sophomores Anthony Ampaipitakwong (2, 0a) and Blair Gavin (1g, 1a) return after earning starting positions last year as freshmen. Ampaipitakwong was a Third Team All-Great Lakes selection and was named to the College Soccer News All-Freshman Team. Gavin added to an already impressive resume with playing time as a member of the U.S. U-20 National team in February 2008. Sophomore Michael Nanchoff (1g, 2a) and junior Ben Zemanski (3g, 0a) are among other returning players who should play key roles in the Akron midfield. Bush gives the Zips an experienced and very sound presence between the pipes. The Concord, Ohio native recorded twelve shutouts in 2007 to up his career total to thirty-five. Bush’s play in goal and Michalsen’s play in the back, particularly in the early going, will likely set the pace for the Zips while some new faces settle into starting roles on the defensive side of the ball. Last year Porter did an excellent job of merging his freshmen recruits in with his returning players. Look for his effectiveness in that regard in 2008 to be a critical success factor for Akron. Porter has announced the addition of an eight member recruiting class that includes three players whose resume includes national team experience and three whose resume includes being named an NSCAA All-American. if you are 100% without a doubt sure that zeke will be signing with akron in the fall and that absolutely nothing can change his mind, my best advice would be to just ignore the press. you already have made your decision and now all that's really left is all of the jealous people to vent their anger. it hurts, yes, and really can only bring you down. they're idiots that won't be reasoned with, so why bother arguing? you guys are sitting in a great position and zeke only has to worry now about having a great senior year. why let others try to tear that down by reading their negativity?Good Morning Zip Family:As I'm getting ready for church I wanted you all to check out the link below. This is to a "pitt" blog and I want Zeke's new fam to read the nasty comments being left about Zeke's decision. As his mom...this stuff really hurts, but as an adult I do understand that everyone is entitled to their "own opinion" no matter how dumb it is or how "idiotic" and "immature" they sound. Just an FYI...have a great day everyone.http://www.pittblather.com/

spoke with a few people in the ad department yesterday and they hope to make an announcement soon and i will drop one hint about the potential game at the q. the team is south of akron and the game still isn't locked up.
i'll care once it's announced. until then, it's just bs gossip.

i guess my point is that if you actually get a chance to look at one of the student-athlete handbooks that were given out to all athletes this year, you'll see in there perfectly spelled out the academic demands among other things. this includes things such as the mandatory class attendance and punishments from the department for each infraction. these rules are being enforced! we are just having to pay for previous years before these standards took effect. things are changing and changing for the better.

it's where dave's market is

there have been changes, but the reality of the situation is that things don't suddenly change over night. personally, i'm not too worried about the future. yes it sucks now that we have to suck up a penalty, but i have complete confidence that this will not be an issue in the future. This should send up all kinds of warning flags to the athletic department. It's time to re-invest in the acedemic support system for the student athletes. What we have is apparently inadequate. -
so who loses their scholarship money and how is that decided? The Zips are administering the loss of five scholarships in two phases, first by not renewinig three athletic scholarships in the current 2007-2008 academic year and then will complete the second phase by not renewing two additional scholarships in 2008-2009. -
through what i know of my own sport (and i admit the rules for the "major" sports are a big different), the whole can't-talk-to-an-athlete is a high school thing. some shooters become very good very young (like make the national team in middle school) and can chat away until they hit high school. then they can't be approached until after their junior year.

i think if you take a look at mack's success at utep, you'd find a pretty good predictor. this is akron, but i have hope.

there wouldn't be enough room... we'd have to pull eminent domain on the odd corner... again
Or even better, right on top of the Plasma Exchange.Maybe the tennis courts or the soccer stadium could be on Brown behind the Plasma Exchange... -
well this argument is probably going on because most people still don't know the exact reasoning as to why she is leaving and the rumor mill isn't always correct. so people out here are filling in the blanks the best they can with the limited information they have, which is perfectly reasonable. they're conclusions aren't exactly accurate. my view though is that if she wanted people to know all the intimate details she would announced it. since she's speaking around the details, this indicates it's something that should be accepted and left alone. she's a nice girl and even if she's not going to be playing here next year i wish her the best of luck.

wrong.I don't know what this hick girl from WV thought when she was signing a letter of intent to a D-1A school, but the reality of the matter is that most kids are not smart enough to play D-1A sports and pursue a difficult degree like nursing.
double wrong.she is looking for a place that gives her a start to a career. why should she settle for anything less than what she wants to do. what did you eat today gp1? honey bunches of bullshit?I say good luck to this young lady and her desire to become a nurse, but she shouldn't blame Coach K. for her lack of ability to pursue the degree and play major college sports as well. She is just a good example of our society today. It is always someone elses fault when a person can't do what they want to do. -
i would agree that the pattern needs to stop, however i think it's on the player's shoulder's not the coach's. ultimately it is their responsibility to act in accordance with any rules, no matter how much you as a fan may disagree with them or think they are stupid. This is a bad pattern that needs to stop soon, or we may see a new coach in a few years. You can't keep driving off your players like this. -
don't forget psychology tooSo, Can't State can have journalism; UA will gladly take math, science, business and law. -
he probably started making more $ after arizona mining company closed.... I mean, where you gonna buy less mainstream, less-commericalized items?hmm, if he's such a douche and he's making so much loot.... *hatches plan to open up a head shop next to his to break his monopoly*
there is competition. some other head shop (called therapy i think) opened up not too long ago where the old heaven and hell tattoo place was.
Is a conference shake-up happening sooner than later?
