Soccer Stadium Master Plan
zippyrifle32 replied to userduders's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
interesting. i see it there, but i still can't quite imagine how it will layout with the plaza idea with the other 2 fields. -
exactly personally, i would really like to see the addition of golf allow for a more equal split of the money for our team. it really hinders recruiting when you can't offer guys money.
-
title ix has to do with equal scholarship money. so big zip, if akron signed half the football team to women then they would have more men's money somewhere else. however, there are no women playing (because as you stated they can't hold their own) so there is the imbalance. we see this in rifle because we are a coed sport, but the girls get 90% of the scholarship money because of title ix.
-
good to hear that they finally announced this. the golf guys had been talking about it but something about it not supposed to be leaked until this summer. by adding women's golf we can add scholarship money to other men's sports that are not up to their maximum (track, soccer just to name a couple). i see that happening before adding another men's sport.

it comes down to the athlete. no matter how much mandatory study table and tutoring you do, you can't make someone learn. they have to at the very least be open to it. you can't make someone go to class. yes you can punish them for skipping, but that's only holding them accountable for their actions and it won't change that f. even if you made sure they got their homework in on time the tutors can't take the test for them. there's only so much that can be done, and it's up to the athlete to do the work.

you know, after listening to jd speak in one of my classes i realized that he's still learning and trying to figure things out. what i mean is, he talked about how the team this past season was it's own worst enemy especially with regards to cohesion and stuff. he's brought in outside help to get people back on the same page, but i think he's also changed some of his coaching philosophy. not that that's a bad thing. in fact i like the idea of a flexible coach. it means that he's going to find a solution even if it means thinking outside of the box, instead of one who's just going to try to jam the square peg into a round hole.

mike thomas was a dick. he was successful in the programs he started in turning this school around i will admit that. you guys are looking at this from a fan's perspective. yes there should be an e-mail at least acknowledging that they received your e-mail, however to call mack a bad ad i think is too far. he's here for the athletes and coaches trying to make the time spent here at akron a positive one. i got the impression that mt could have cared less. say hi to him in the hallway he'd look at you like who the hell are you. mack will stop and actually as how classes are going, practices, family, etc. he at least appears to care about his athletes. they need to take better care of the fans because we need them, but i'm glad to see that he's taking care of the coaches and athletes.

i didn't realize osu was at the top of the big 10. now i know a team can beat any other team on any given day, but it makes me wonder if mac softball is better overall than big 10 softball. anyone have an answer for this?

or (in typical browns fashion) quinn shatters his throwing hand the day before the first game, locking frye in for a while.
-
i'm really not surprised we won. just another example of osu superiority in all sports...
-
oh man it would be great to get to play the zags. not just because they have a good program and would give us good exposure, but my mother would never hear the end of it if we won (zag alumn)

no shit sherlock

ah i was looking here and at the time it wasn't fully updated
-
had to look it up cause i'm not a tosu fan, but it appears he has yet to be drafted in all honesty though, i am very surprised.

i'm pretty sure the number is now between 50-60 ncaa teams. many of the teams we shoot against are club teams (usually former varsity teams) and they've written the rules so that we can use scores shot against these club teams as qualifying scores.

the university of missouri, kansas city has announced they are dropping their rifle program. umkc has been one of the tougher teams the zips compete against in the western intercollegiate conference. any time a rifle team is disbanded it has a pretty big effect in the sport nationally since there are becoming fewer and fewer teams out there.full story here:umkc rifle team dropped

i didn't really care for that article, mainly because my interpretation of the tone of the piece was that we shouldn't be making as big of a deal about this event because tragic events occur all the time all over the place. i disagree. there are a lot of things about this attack that make it stand out more than the rest. 1. the number of people killed - the most in american history2. it happened on a college campus - it hits home a lot more when parents who already worry about their children being away can imagine this situation possibly happening anywhere. 3. a father murdering his sons then himself is still a domestic dispute. it isn't likely that it would extend to other people (which is a big reason the police thought the dorm shooting was the end of it) however, the senseless killing of so many people strikes a certain type of fear that you don't get from a domestic dispute. yeah, if you pray you might as well pray for everyone. i'll just be keeping them in my thoughts. At the same time the VT thing was going on, I read a story about a bomb that went off killing 45 in Iraq. That shit happens every damn day and no one really seems to care any more. Those are sons and daughters as well. Not to mention the over 600,000 Iraqis that have been killed. I guess they aren't human. It's no big surprise you misread that column. You hate everything the buchtelite does. umm... yeah that's pretty much true about the buchtelite. i have hope for the future though with so many of the writers leaving, the newer ones don't seem that bad. still, there are a lot of reasons why the vt thing is more shocking, and we've become conditioned to the war. sad but true. unless you personally know someone over there most of those numbers go in one ear and out the other just because people have a hard time relating to that. that's why the media is so focused on the vt story - even the buchtelite. and it's too bad that you think iraqis aren't human... guess you just prove my point -

personally, i hate using capital letters because i think it's a pain to hold the shift and type. it slows me down and if i took the time to do it i probably would have forgotten what i was trying to type. thank goodness word automatically capitalizes for me! i would also like to add that as a psychology major, i think your over agressiveness toward each other is due in part to your relationship with your mother as a child. not really, but it's something freud would probably say...lolif harvey is back, he's back. if not, that sucks. as fans there's really nothing we can do about it except hope for the best.

Eric Coblentz speaking to Dambrot
zippyrifle32 replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
i know there is a limit to how many players can dress down for a game, but is there a limit as to how many can be on the roster? i mean, it's not unusual in other sports to leave players behind on game days, yet let them practice for a chance to enter the rotation. wasn't sure if there was a roster cap or not. -
he did say that he thought the biggest reason they got the offices in the field house was because of winning the championship... but that was him talking about what winning brings to the school and other reason why it's important to have a successful team.

jd came and spoke in one of my classes today about his personal coaching philosophy. after the lecture he answered questions and of course the stadium one came up. without hesitation he said fall 2009 they will open the new stadium by playing indiana (i believe, or some other school starting with an i).

that would be a lot of fun... me mum's a zag alum... would make things interesting

i'll let you all know my opinion when i turn 21 and can evaluate each bar

yeah, that's not going to be happening anytime soon. like uakronkid said, niki got what she deserved with being benched. people need to remember that the team is not made up of just one player. we have some good sophs next year and kest is recruiting some good frosh including a true point guard. people also need to stop trying to make kest into a bad guy. just think how hard it was for her to know that she could really use those players, but she benched them because they broke the rules. that to me shows integrity. too often star players get special treatment or rules bent for them because they are needed on the court. the teams lost those games, and it's the players' fault for being suspended, not kest's for enforcing team rules.
