how about some signs or something that sayTownsend come to steal more players?or something along the lines of the bubba scandle (although i don't miss bubba)

good to see you again a-holio. yeah i kinda like that quotation, meaning that we don't get the recognition we deserve even though we're better.

don't waste the scholarships, but waste the rest of the funding that goes into the program and facilities? that doesn't make sense. i also think you would be surprised to find out that not every student athlete gets a full ride or even half a ride. one more thing...you are not everybody. you are just ONE opinion, so until 30 other people who are die hard zips fans come here and say the exact same thing you just said, then you can't be all inclusive like that. for example, i give a shit for all of the sports, mens or womens, big time or not. now that we cleared that up you can get over it and move on

ok InTheZone, why don't we just cut everything except men's football, soccer, and basketball. i'll let you keep baseball too if you like. so now we have 4 men's sports. what happens now? why shouldn't women be allowed to participate in collegiate sports? and let's just say that we get a women's golf team and they win a national championship, are you saying that wouldn't produce school pride? please enlighten me.

in his defense (and i never thought i would be saying that) many people underestimate how fast those girls can pitch that ball. something about hitting a softball in a crowded gym, at half time when people aren't paying attention anyways, it just seems like a bad idea...

let's beat nevada and see!!! :macc:

mack rhoades mentioned a possibility of adding women's golf or bowling in the future. i just wanted some opinions as to which people would prefer. i could see golf being cheaper because they already have the facilities with the indoor driving range and whatnot. we have bowling alleys in the union, but that wouldn't be fit for a varsity bowling team. it also brings up the question if they added another women's team, would the bring back a men's team they already cut, like men's tennis? i know this wouldn't happen for several years, but still having it as a possibility is exciting!

tonight didn't look too bad for attendance. i cheered and screamed silently from above (no voice - sick). the one thing that got me tonight and bugs me on a regular basis is people leaving early. it's like everyone got up and left with 3:30 still on the clock. it's only 3 minutes what can it hurt? -

i honestly don't have suggestions to get students to games. they post fliers all over the dorms and dining hall, they give away cool stuff (airline tickets, ipods), yet students still don't show. i know most of my friends either aren't interested in basketball, or they commute so they don't want to drive 45 minutes back to campus. for those that do go to the game, a lot of them complain that they're boring and no one cheers. i see this as a catch-22. if we got more people there, it would be a lot louder. the only thing i can suggest, which i also practice, is to lead by example and drag your friends to as many games as you can. i also like the idea of calling the greeks out to get them to the games. it should work. call it a competition, and they'll all be there. -
look sloopy, if you don't like the rifle team that's fine. being near the top 10 is an accomplishment especially when seeing that none of our team members are olympians/national team/national development team. shooting is a small sport, and the teams that are top five have several national team members. we have a lot of potential, but we're not over that hill yet.

no, the exciting part is that we are up several spots from last year, and after shooting a season high at the qualifier, chances are that in the final rankings we will jump a spot or two.
-
here's the link to the ncaa site that has akron ranked #14 before ncaa sectionals. i believe this is up from last year, but chances are very slim for going to the championships. rifle ranksthe selection match is weighted to count for half of the average when making the final selection. these current rankings are the averages of the top two away matches at different venues, and the top home match. while there are only 16 teams listed, i believe there are a little over 50 schools with an ncaa team. i'm not sure of the exact number, but 57 keeps popping into my mind.

it seems that when the band has to cut the song short, they tend to leave out the best part...zzziiiip! zip go the zippers!zzziiiip! zip go the zippers!i know all my friends that go with me get embarassed because i actually sing along everytime it is played.

i also think that it is more about the personality inside the suit. even with that cute lovable cartoonish face, the people inside zippy are able to make her feel more fierce. i mean, we don't want a mascot that's going to have all the little children cry.just something to think about when talking about replacing zippy:i remember a few years back the university of oregon tried to change their mascot. the old mascot: then they had a "hatching" during one of the games to introduce the new mascot.they wanted something a little more fierce, but what they got was a duck on steriods. people actually began to boo the new mascot, and they never really used him again.

i had to leave right before half time for a saac meeting, but i was a little worried because they only had like an 10 point lead (when i left) and they've been a little weak in the second half. as soon as i got out of the field house i rushed back over to catch the end of the game, but by then everyone was coming out. so i guess it wasn't even close. good game zips! keep adding em up in the "w" column!

damn...that was prety creative. i top my hat off to whoever thought of that! i wish i could have been there to experience that. it'll be interesting to see what they'll try to do. it can't be much because you need to swipe your zip card for the primo student section. -

Do you like our current uniforms?

this is a little off topic here, but i'll answer anyways. (sorry mods)our rifle team is co-ed, but there are many programs around the country that are all female. it's actually one of the only ncaa sports where men and women compete side by side and against each other. there is no men's champion or women's champion, just the overall champion. however, on the international scene (where many of the top collegiate athletes end up) it becomes seperated based on sex. now i said before that we have a co-ed team, but up until this year, scholarship money could only be given to the females. that made it extremely difficult to recruit guys, and most of the ones that we have on the team now are here because of the coach alone (that's what a great guy he is.) the ncaa says a rifle team can give a max 3.6 scholarship. now you need at least 4 people to make a full team (we have 14 or 15 this year), so you know that nobody is getting a full ride. however, a school can choose to give the program less than that to work with. we were operating on 2.0 scholarships to women only. this year the school gave us another scholarship (3.0) and the ratio of women's $: men's $ was high enough that my coach is now able to give a very small part of a scholarship to one guy. we are fairly low profile here, but most of that is due to the fact that we don't compete in the mac with the rest of the school teams. in fact, no other mac school has a rifle team. we have two leagues we compete in: the western intercollegiate rifle championship, and our own version of the mac - the mid-atlantic rifle conference. now we wouldn't have so many title 9 issues if the ncaa would just start women's football... -

you're entitled to that opinion, but the rifle team is a cheap team that allows the university to stay withing the title 9 balance. it's the cheapest sport akron has, and it'd be stupid to get rid of us for a more expensive sport. i don't think they will be dropping us anytime soon. from what i hear, there are plans to put a new shooting range in the new stadium. and seeing a few of the ad's come down to see the range we have now, i think a new range is almost set in stone. too bad i won't be here when it's built... -
Trouble getting the ball inbounds?
zippyrifle32 replied to ZipAnalyst's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
it was on those plays where the inbounder just threw it up for romeo to grab, but the problem was that it would get tipped and then there would be a mess. it seemed like there were no definite screens or cuts, and that people kinda stood there. i was getting frusterated just watching it happen!
