i have seen the articles, and not everything that's in there is 100% fact. then again, i don't know enough about the whole situation to clarify things. why hasn't anyone from uapd addressed the issue. there are two issues that stem from these articles: 1. the policy regarding undercover narcotic agents and informants being used in on campus housing and 2. the policies of the student judicial review board. while each of these needs review, to blame someone's suicide on these two institutions isn't fair. the kangaroo court needs 1/3 evidence to suspend a student. in this case how much evidence did they actually have? that's what i want to know.

no no, i'm not saying that one third evidence is enough, i'm saying that while maybe they needed 3/4 evidence to get a criminal conviction, they only had 2/3 which is a heck of a lot more than 1/3. basically that's the minimum, but they still could have had more than enough evidence over the minimum but not enough for the criminal conviction. hope that makes sense.

from my understanding, the informants used are usually people who were caught buying or selling drugs, and they turn informant to help their own case. it makes sense when you think about it because they already have connections that can help the police. i don't know about this incentive program, but it's obvious that the beacon journal wanted to go after the university on this story. and while it's sad that this guy committed suicide, i think it is extremely unfair to blame his entire death on the university. and just because they couldn't get enough on him to get a criminal conviction, doesn't mean he was completely innocent either.

i think i know what one you're talking about. i went into lids at chapel hill mall to get it but they were sold out. instead i got this one which they said they just got in. it was buy one get one half off so me and one of my teammates each got one.

one of the games i went to this year this happened. all of the students were standing on the wooden benches cheering and bouncing then crack! there goes one girl down into the row in front of her. luckly there were people there so she didn't get hurt but still...

i like the head with the a better than the "z" too. as far as people asking if it's a donkey head i wouldn't mind seeing it changed to just the action roo. i love our mascot and think it's a heck of a lot cooler than the old fashion "a"as long as there's a roo there, i'm happy.

i'm not going to go as far as dictate to someone what they should wear, but it does bother me a little when people show up for game wearing other school's gear. i'm not from ohio, and i really don't give a shit about ohio state, but i can't stand it when people from the university of akron say the zips suck and that buckeye sports are the only thing that matters! mind you this is my own personal experience with talking to people around campus, and has nothing to do with what is being said on this board. what pisses me off even more than that is people wearing Can't state stuff around campus. when i came my senior year for my official visit a bunch of people were asking why i'd come from clear across the country to go to school here. i heard a lot of "akron sucks go to Can't" or "i'd wish i was at ohio state." shit! then go to school there! i guess i'm kinda rambling, but my point is that we need more school spirit. if you're a fan of both that's fine, but don't look down on me because i chose this school. i had other offers with "big name" schools, but i found what i liked in akron.

personally i don't know what to make of the opinion. i have gone to every game i can, and while it's frusterating to see people not cheering, the students can't really say much because they weren't even there the past few years. i think that next year there will be more people, more students, and more energy generated at the games. when that happens the everyone will be up and cheering.

do any of you akron oldies have an opinion on this?

the people at the bottom of a "big" conference are just as unknown as the people at the top of a "mid mjor" conference. i think people need to stop trying to get into the "big" conferences and work to make their conferences better.

i agree! but even if buffalo beats can't that doesn't mean that buffalo will be any easier in the finals.

how is it that the university is allowing one guy to leave and take half our staff? i know there's some reason out there like, we can't stop them. but really, i'm sure the university could do something to keep these people here. they're gonna have to do something or our fifteen minutes of fame will be 5 minutes long.
