We might not of had Natson last year, but we were fully aware of what he was capable of considering we saw him play at Utah State. I certainly hope we are better as a team next season. If not, Bowden better be out the door. I'm not fretting or losing sleep over the loss of Lane. As I said there are other areas of this team that we can more than offset his loss. I'm just acknowledging the fact that it will be pretty evident our receiving core won't be as good next season as it was this season. That's just recognizing a fact. The same as it was pretty evident our linebackers this season weren't going to be as good as last season after we lost all those players to graduation. As you have stated and is obvious players only stay 4 years. Of which most starters start for only 2-3 years. This means with constant turnover the strengths and weaknesses of your team are ever changing. WR might not (and probably won't) necessarily be the weakness of our team next year, but it won't be the overwhelming strength neither.

I don't see anyone here saying we should just hang it up and forget about next year because we lost Lane and Jojo. However, I'm not going to sit here and pretend we aren't going to miss what they provided us. The strength of our team this season was our WR core. We enter next season with it being an unknown. There are still plenty of other areas where we can improve as a team (QB play, O-line, D-line, Linebackers). Perhaps 2-3 years from now these young receivers will be better than Lane or Natson. I just don't expect them to be next season.

What I was getting at is the average NFL career is 3.3 years. Many 6th and 7th rounders don't even make the roster of the team that drafted them. Being able to make a roster as a rookie isn't necessarily the most challenging part. Being able to fight off incoming rookies year after year and turning it into a legitimate career is what the challenging part is.

Whether he gets drafted in the 6th round or signs as an undrafted rookie really isn't what matters. The real challenge will be him making an NFL roster and sticking 2+ seasons.

Dambrot entered that game 6-0 vs YSU. If you play the same team enough times eventually they will beat you. We've played and beat 3 teams that I feel are better than YSU (GA So, Air Force, and Mercer). This isn't to say we aren't without our faults. We have things to work on if we want to win the MAC and have a chance to make noise in the tourney. I wouldn't put it past the realm of possibility. We have some nice players. It's just a matter of putting it all together. The MAC looks down this year which should help the cause. The MAC is 1-9 vs. RPI top 100 (our win vs. Mercer is sole RPI top 100 win) and is 10-30 vs. RPI top 200.

I can see him going in the 6th or 7th round. Another year of college would have improved his chances of not only getting drafted higher, but actual be able to stick around for 2+ years. I'm not going to question his decision as it's his life and idk his circumstances. I wish him the best. Edit: As a fan I've always viewed it as if you can go in 1st 2 rounds leave. If not, stay unless you feel an extra year won't help.

IDC who we have waiting in the wings. Us losing both Lane and Jojo next season is going to make us weaker at the WR position heading into next year. We have some nice prospects and quality contributors, but it's too be seen if we have a clear #1 in this group.

If you go to their board, you'll see a good number of their fans see us this way as they are already looking ahead to Nebraska. Unfortunately considering the Zips beat them not that long ago, I can't see their coach allowing the players look past us. Edit: others know who we are and recognize us as a solid mid-major opponent and potential trap game.

I'd definitely stop by a tailgate or a bar to BS about Zips sports if some meetup was planned.

It's not just TV. The technology boom has brought so much; facebook, instagram, twitter, netflix, etc. Younger people are quicker to embrass (some are specifically targeted solely for young people) these things. I stay in touch with friends that I haven't in weeks. I don't need to go to a social function like a game to socialize and catch up with them. But your generation grew up going to the sporting events so it makes sense they continued going after TV and the internet got big. My generation never got in the habit of going as other things stole their attention. My grandma has the internet which she could use to get her daily news, but instead she has a daily paper delivered to her house. How many 25-30 year olds get a newspaper delivered?

You old farts also didn't grow up in the day and age of having 20 sport channels at your disposal on 55"+ HD large screens. Accept it or not us young people have more things competing for our attention than what kids 20-30 years ago had.

Marshall improved to 5-1 last night knocking off what I figure to be our stiffest competition in the MAC this season OU by a score of 98-88. Edit: We get them at home December 17th. Looks to be a fairly quality OOC home opponent.

To honestly have any chance we need to slow the game down and feed Big Dog. Perhaps he can bait Patton into a couple early fouls. With the loss of their backup C they don't really have depth at the PF, C positions. Trying to play through our guards will only lead to long rebounds after missing contested 3's and deflected passes. Both of which are easy to turn into fast break points. Edit: When Creighton had to play a half-court offense against Buffalo I wasn't impressed with them.

Yeah, I know there wouldn't be 3k butts in the seats. Those numbers factor in STH like me who decided this game wasn't worth showing up for.

Listening on the radio namely to see if Dambrot provides any interesting tidbits in the post game interview. French said 3k were in attendance. I can't imagine many people bought single game tickets for this. To anyone at the game did you notice an uptick in student attendance? If so, perhaps that Lebron jersey giveaway is working.

If you count ticket sales and contributions (according to those numbers), it equals $3.36M or roughly only 10% of the total athletic budget. Most of that 30% is made up from sponsorship, naming rights, media contracts, NCAA Tourney credits, apparel, CFP pool, and other non booster/STH revenue streams.

I'm a STH and donor (granted I probably give a lot less than most of you, but I'm still young and working my way up the ladder). I'm not saying we don't matter. However, it irks me when I see someone post that we should intentionally neglect the people (students) who both provide the bulk of the current funding and will be tomorrows donors. Seems like a fantastic way to run our athletics into the ground.

I agree 100%. I don't drive 30 minutes each way, sit on rock hard bleachers, pay $6 for nachos, $4 for hot dogs, spend $5-$20 on beer at Euro, Score, or wherever just to see a game. If all I wanted to do was just to watch the game I'd sit at home on my nice comfy couch and watch it on my large screen TV which provides a better view than my seat at the JAR. The food and beer is much cheaper at home as well. I could also start the game late and DVR through the commercials and half-time and only spend 1 hour watching it instead of committing the 3-5 hours I do getting ready, driving up, watching the game, and getting home. I spend this extra time and money for the in person game experience. Us millennials expect 2 hours of entertainment at a game, not just the 40 minutes in which the ball is in play.

The students are the ones who fund the bulk of the athletics through student fees that are forced upon them. If you neglect today's students whose going to be the one paying for those premium seats 30 years from now? If you want to honor the 1986 team have a half-time ceremony for that. That would be perfectly alright by me. Don't force some jersey with some players name the student never heard of because it pleases some STH that will never be wearing it anyways.

It's like that every year at this point in the season. The crowds will return again at the start of next season like they do every year.

Quit beating a dead horse. We have the arena that we have. The University clearly can't afford a new one and the city & state have made it clear they aren't willing to pay for it. Any opponent that would make a real impact on attendance (OSU, MSU, UNC, Kansas, or Duke, etc.) would never agree to come here for a regular season game. We had VCU (bracket busters which no longer exists) come in fresh off a final 4 appearance and we still couldn't sell out the JAR. The average student doesn't know the difference between a Cleveland State or Valpo. Atmosphere certainly does matter even if you want to pretend it doesn't. Hundreds of thousands of people turn out each year to watch the god awful Browns. The reason being is that even though they expect to lose, they still enjoy the gameday experience.

Thankfully age + his connection to Akron has helped prevent more aggressive offers from coming Dambrot's way. Lack of postseason success probably plays some part too. It's too be seen if he has built Akron into a brand that will be sustainable after he decides to leave (hopefully many years from now). I wouldn't be surprised if he has some say in whoever his replacement is and can see him staying connected to the basketball program in some way even in retirement.

Are you really trying to compare a 2x Heisman winner to an Akron player? Nobody cares about an OVC championship. If we had a Gordon Hayward type player who led us to national prominance I could see where you are getting at, but we have never had that player.
