  1. I just love how ambiguous some of the things are. What exact perks does "UA Alumni Night" entail? What are they giving away for "Student Appreciation Night"? Also, what is "Girls and Women in Sports Day"? There are others as well. Edit: "National Bobblehead Day" - I assume this means they are giving out bobbleheads. It would be nice if they would just say of who.
  2. Thanks Wadszip! This was the kind of detailed post that I was looking for. I particularly liked how you broke out how many FBS players are from different counties. I knew Summit County was better than Stark County, but these numbers actually put it into perspective of just how much better it is.
  3. Noticed the Zips finally posted the full promotional schedule. http://www.gozips.com/tickets/promotions_basketball_2016-17
  4. I thought the University was going to use it to help cut the $20M budget shortfall?
  5. Yeah, I'm all for getting the discussion flowing. IDK the case about Buchtel, but McKinley has a significantly larger enrollment and kind of was spending a good amount of resources on athletics developing players before it become a more mainstream thing to do. Also, it was pretty commonplace in the 90s for Stark County families to relocate to the McKinley school district so their kid could be seen by recruiters. If all these East players come and contribute, I'll be thrilled. I'm just hesitant if we are trying to dig too deep into the Akron well for players that we are missing out on other players that are an hour or 2 away and will find their way onto a Kent, Toledo, or OU rosters.
  6. I'm no expert, but can someone explain to me how an 8-4 D3 team has so many FBS players? I've been following D3 playoffs for years and the best of the best teams have maybe 2 players with FBS offers. Louisville made the state championship game in D3 with only 1 player going on to play FBS football. I'm all for scooping up the best of the best in the area, but there are only so many FBS players in Akron. Are we perhaps missing out on kids in Cleveland, Youngstown, Cincy, Columbus, etc. because we've become overly committed to offering local guys? EDIT: To be fair I haven't seen East play this year so maybe they are just that stacked. If that's the case how didn't they win state?
  7. To be fair only the top 10 or so C are drafted each from a pool of 351 D1 schools. There are really good college basketball teams that don't even get their best player drafted. Whether Lane gets drafted or not heavily depends on how his numbers read at the combine.
  8. Thanks for taking the time to post.
  9. Kent football has continued to be terrible since Nielson took over as AD and for a school that has declared their goal is to be a basketball school, their hoops program has regressed as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they are in the market for a new AD in the coming years.
  10. I don't see this necessarily bringing waves of fans in, but it is nice to see them try something new to try to get fans more engaged in the game. Who knows it might provide a few smirks and a couple laughs. I'm all for anything that improves the atmosphere, especially in a contest the Zips hopefully run away with.
  11. I haven't seen a promotion like this since the Browns organized a bottle throwing on the 1st botched call that cost them the game and their season.
  12. I'm going to assume Akron either intends to burn a timeout or the teams and officials agreed to a stoppage of play. Maybe Akron is just willing to accept the technical. Either way it's definitely the plan.
  13. Well I guess we're going to have to go 13-0 next season and test this theory...
  14. I've seen it on social media. They are giving away 1000 shirts. They are doing the toilet paper toss. Also, teddy bear toss at half-time. Edit: Hopefully I end up with a white shirt as I don't own any white Zips apparel.
  15. Like I said I agree with you. What is the marginal cost to educate, house, and feed a student athlete? IDK the answer to that, but I'd bet it is certainly less than the 25k-30k they quote. Losing the TV money, CFP money, Guarantee money from P5, what would be increased travel cost, lost notoriety, and whatever else would make it so that we are giving up more than we are gaining if we were to move down.
  16. I'm in agreement with you Captain, but it should be pointed out that the reduction in football scholarships would perhaps open the door to cutting a women's sport so that 22 scholarship savings might actually be more like 35.
  17. Isn't this like our 5th straight season facing them?
  18. It did neither IMO. Teams that are wanting to schedule a solid team to either help their OOC SOS or as a tune up for conference play will continue to schedule us. The schools that don't want to risk an embarrassing defeat will continue not to.
  19. We did have stretches where we made 3's on back-to-back possessions. We just couldn't come up with the stops defensively. Akron being such a 3 point heavy team allows us to erase deficits pretty quick. It also puts us in a big hole when they aren't falling. Being down 8-9 points with 3 minutes left isn't an insurmountable lead. It's ridiculous if you think it is.
  20. More likely it is the fact a 9 point lead is only a 3 possession deficit for the opposing team when they're a prolific 3 point shooting team like Akron. Creighton knew they had to continue scoring as Akron is capable of putting up points in bunches themselves. Edit: If Mac felt the game was well in hand he would have went to his bench the final few minutes.
  21. We were without our starting PG and went into a hostile environment against an elite Creighton team and competed for 40 minutes. If you don't think we competed then explain to me why McDermott played 4 of his 5 starters 18+ minutes in the 2nd half, including Patton the full 20? I've heard everyone all year say this is one of the worst Dambrot teams. This team didn't look like one of the "worst Dambrot teams" last night. I actually came away more hopeful on our outlook for the season after the game than I went into it feeling. Upsets in the regular season are talked about for a week or 2 then forgotten. Akron, like all mid-majors, will be judged on postseason success. Give me back Robotham and I feel we could compete against a lot of high caliber teams this season.
  22. I wish we could see this Kwan more consistently.
  23. Our only hope this game was to hit >40% of our 3's and win the glass. We've done neither. Edit: Missed shots just lead to fast break opportunities the other way.
  24. TDM is playing terrible.
  25. I'd have to imagine the Zips will slide Antino to point, Williams to the 2 guard, and insert Ivey into the starting lineup. TDM coming off the bench being the combo guard. We will need someone to step up big time at the 3 to give Ivey ~15 minutes of rest.
