I just bought my season tickets for basketball online. They are general admission seating and I must say it was a much more difficult process than it needed to be. I had to click the section I wanted (very reasonable) then had to zoom in and find an "empty seat" to select (it's GA really). I tried clicking repeatedly at 1st and nothing would take. I almost gave up before realizing I had to zoom in. I get the pick the seat feature and it is definitely nice to have particularly for premium seating, but they should also have a generic pick your section and how many seats you want. Edit: I would have caught on quicker had I realized I needed to zoom in 1st.

I went to a Stark county school where high school football is a pretty big deal (apparently we take it a bit too serious as we are in the process of getting booted out of a conference we started because the other schools say we're too good and they don't want to compete with us) and can confirm what Skip-Zip said. There was nothing unique the student body did that made people show up. It was viewed as the "cool thing to do" on a Friday night because that's what everyone did for generations. Students that aren't even football fans will go to OSU games because it is something that is perceived as a cool thing to do and they can send snapchats, post crap on facebook, and instagram with captions like #gobucks and will receive dozen of likes.

Don't tell that to NIU fans. According to their fans they were legit contenders for Big 12 because they had the Chicago market. Miami (Oh) and Cincy are about 45 minutes apart. That's like Cleveland to Akron.

I don't see us picking up any grad transfer QBs as Woodson kind of has a stranglehold on the QB position, but getting a incoming Sophomore or even an incoming Junior that has to sit out a year anyways could make a lot of sense. Akron currently has 3 jr on the roster at QB, 1 senior, and 1 freshman. 4 of those 5 QBs will be gone at the end of next season. Anyone that transferred into Akron would be competing straight up with Kato for the starting job in 2018. Akron has kind of transformed itself into being a vertical passing team that should have some nice offensive weapons in 2018. It could be an attractive destination for a talented player wanting to make a name for himself but is playing behind an elite QB.

I agree with Balsy these songs aren't mainstream enough. Even if people knew the "My City is Gone" why would you want your song to be about everything you like about Akron leaving?

I read somewhere that we have 27 transfers on the roster. It appears to be 1 too few.

Hate to plagiarize others ideas, but these are the type of traditions we need. Take someone else's good idea and fine tune it to make it your own. Going to the football game should be a fun and exciting experience that students look forward to all week. Not something where you just stand around for 4 hours and kind of just go thru the emotions. I worked 30 hours a week, took 15-16 credit hours, and was treasurer of my fraternity all at the same time. My "free time" was valuable. There are thousands of other stories like mine around campus. Game day experience has to justify their time commitment. Right now they can follow the game on twitter or watch on TV in the comfort of their home while studying, doing projects, or whatever multi tasking things these young kids do these days. I think a designated student tailgate lot where the University won't be dicks about policing would be a good start. Make the lot free and be 1st come 1st serve.

Given the Zips terrible defense up to this point and Kent State inept offense, it should be fun seeing what wins out the stoppable force or the movable object. Jokes aside I'm going to go Akron as their defense did a pretty good job of limiting the run against Marshall and VMI and Kent's line is not App State/Wisconsin caliber. They are also down to what I'm hearing is their 3rd string QB so hopefully our secondary at least looks semi decent this week. I'll go Akron by 10.

Yeah, there were definitely some kids going to school on mommy and daddy's dime. I knew some, but that was the far minority. Hell one of the guys I knew his mom/dad made him transfer out of Akron after he was held up at gun point. They threatened to cut him off if he didn't. I feel those kids are found in larger numbers at traditional campuses like OSU, Miami, and OU.

Able to borrow 3x as much, but based off my numbers college costs have rose 14.5X between 1979 to 2015... A 20,000 starting salary in 1985 equates to $44,380 when adjusted to inflation. There is no disputing the fact that today's college kids come away with way more college debt than kids of past generations even after adjusting for inflation. I was making $12/hr my 5th year, which my scholarship didn't cover, working 30 hours a week and I still had to take out a good amount in loans. PS. The point shouldn't be to maximize debt borrowing. It should be to minimize it.

High school graduation rates are at a high, but the number of kids going to college is decreasing. Kids are seeing their older siblings and cousins graduate with degrees only to end up with a job that doesn't require one. Many kids have also been priced out of going. Had I not gotten a fairly substantial scholarship that covered about 1/2 my expense, I likely wouldn't have gone to college.

Being an Akron native might actually help the cause if he was really an Akron native. It says he is a Columbus native who at some point moved to Massillon for some amount of time and has only attended Hoban for 2 years. I'm guessing he doesn't have the same attachment to the community that someone who was born and bred here does.

I feel Akron has been trying. Hell the previous 2 seasons they gave away free tuition. What other schools do that? The culture at Akron is people don't have school pride. Akron is just that place they will spend 4-5 years of their life. That's what needs to get changed, but Akron needs to do something that makes people feel proud to be going there. Right now kids just joke about how they are living in the hood and how much of a financial mess the campus is.

I know as an undergrad I rarely made it to weekday games because they typically started at 7 or 730 and I typically had class until 8. Add in homework/tests and kids working the typical past 5 PM minimum jobs and I can understand why weekday attendance is bad. Friday/Saturday there is no excuse.

Bringing back some good memories. That was my sophomore year and I made the journey to Kent. Storming Kent's field after the miss was probably by all-time favorite Akron sports fan moment as an undergrad. I may have ended up in Akron's drunk tank later on that night, but that is neither here nor there.

I met up with a friend from college yesterday that I hadn't seen in a few weeks to watch the Browns game. He knows I follow Zips athletics. Without me saying anything he mentioned how he can't believe the Zips lost to App State. I asked if he watched the game. He said no, but he followed the score on twitter (I suppose that's a start).Then said he was shocked by the Akron-Marshall game a week ago. I told him he should tag along with me for the WMU game. He said he'd definitely be up for it. This is the same friend that last season said he'd never pay $15 to go to a Zips game. That was of course before they mounted that nice end of the season winning streak. Akron won a grand total of 14 games in my 5 years of college. I have plenty of friends that are huge football fans, but after watching the Zips lose consistently by 20+ each game, they lost desire to care.

The listed attendance for Saturday was 15,381. I was at the game and that stadium looked nowhere close to being half filled. Maybe there was thousands of unused tickets?

Well I feel you are wrong in assuming the defense would have suddenly came up with stops when they didn't show that ability all game. We can agree to disagree. And thank you for trying to put words in my mouth by insinuating that I was saying field position doesn't matter. PS: I'm seeing App State scored TDs from distances of 36 yards, 37 yards, 49 yards, and 32 yards. All of which the App State player could have gained an extra 15-20 yards, or more. Field position certainly had no impact on those drives.

I'm pretty sure you hear what you want to hear. I clearly stated that the poor kick coverage could cost them down the line. App State was a poor match up against an already suspect Zips D. They run a lot of misdirection and trick plays which fooled an inexperienced and still developing Zips defense. App State lived the entire game dealing with 2nd and 3s. It's not like the Zips were putting them in 3rd and 5 or 3rd and 8 positions and App State was making plays to extend drives. They were moving the ball at will against us.

We'll never know for certain. I just have little faith that a defense that forced 1 punt the entire game could have stopped App State on any of the drives they scored.
