Increasing JAR Attendance/Engaging the Fans

I do agree that is the most feasible option. I just don't think that alone will turn a 3,000 person crowd to 3,500. -

If it' something simple like just replacing seats without reconfiguration then that cost YSU ~$2 million. That might be achievable by raising single game and season tickets up ~$5/game. If you want to get into extending the concourse to add more concessions, a real team shop, new bathrooms, etc. then you will probably have to double or perhaps triple ticket prices. -

500 more per games X $15/ticket X 15 games/year. That's $112,500 per year. That means after 10 years it would have generated $1.1 million. It really only starts to make sense if its accompanied by ticket price increases as @ZipsFan31 mentioned. How steep kind of depends on how extensive the renovations are. That however brings new problems as then you start to price out Joe Akron. -
I kind of feel its a shame that the NIT gets such a bad name. Every year for football 6-7 MAC schools get a postseason in a meaningless bowl game. They're given out like candy on Halloween. In basketball only 1, maybe 2 get a postseason. Obviously, I prefer the tournament. I just don't understand the negative stigma surrounding the NIT

Any meaningful renovation is probably going to cost 10s of millions of dollars. All to sell maybe a few hundred more tickets to games. Mathematically it just doesn't make sense. Especially when you consider the new car smell will quickly wear off. It lasted at Infocision for all of 1 game. ~15 home games for $100 is still an incredible value for entry level price. That's a comparable price of attending a high school game, maybe even cheaper, and you get to watch a team that is consistently in or around the top 100 teams nationally at the collegiate level. Heck you can even turn those 15 tickets into 3 games of 5 tickets to have 3 cheap family fun nights. It's challenging to take a family of 5 out and not spend close to $100 for 1 night. It's really hard to ask for anything extensive, especially given the financial constraints the University is under. I think since Wentz has gotten more involved we have seen some good improvements. Good student promotions/improved seating, jersey giveaways, $2 Buds before tipoff to get more people to the game early. There is plenty that still could be done. As someone else mentioned the concessions. I think I've only ever gotten stuff there 2-3x as frankly its underwhelming. -

Yep, I also think the program is a bit a victim of its own success. If the Zips had been terrible for a long time and then they were now 18-4 there would probably be more buzz surrounding the team. Locals seem to instead take the team for granted as 20+ win seasons for the Zips is the norm. Edit: Even nationally this team this season would probably get some Cinderella dark horse chatter if Miami wasn't hogging all the national attention. -
Received an email from Angela and this offer caught my eye so figured I'd share. With tickets, 2-3 beers, and a meal you'd be spending close to $99/person anyway. I've also had club seats for Cavs game in the past and thought they were fantastic. I've already reached out to get tickets.

From what I read yesterday the legacy members would be getting $3.5M and that might be subsidized by the MWC. I haven't seen anything what the new members would get. Unless more details have dropped in the last 24 hours that I missed, the financial details published have been very vague.

This felt relevant. https://youtu.be/MLCLMEYp9s0?si=N4Dhtk3_KOqcn5_G

I would say if they do only one round keep it the one in February. JMU, which was one of the SunBelt's top preseason teams ended up being garbage.

What's funny is there was a ~10 year stretch that the tournament was hosted in Toledo and they punched their ticket 0 times those years. Half those years it was played in Savage Arena. I think they want the tournament to return to Toledo, but honestly what out of town fan would want to spend 3 days in that decaying city? Cleveland has a great setup. There was a Redhawks fan who said he's gone to every tournament since the 1980s and Cleveland blows the rest away. I feel the ones who complain are the ones who don't actually make the trip to fairly judge. With NIU leaving and UMass joining I would also add Cleveland might be pretty close to the geographical middle for the MAC.
-
I wasn't sure where to put this, but the MWC signed their TV deal. That would lead me to think the MAC deal, which expires in 2027, should begin to see some movement.
-
If you go to their board they blame all kinds of things for their lack of success. Bad luck, injuries, and saying the tournament needs moved because Kent and Akron get an unfair advantage. Meanwhile, they're significantly closer to Cleveland than schools like Buffalo, Miami, or WMU who have all won the tournament in Cleveland. They just lack any sort of accountability. It's funny enough that they don't feel the same way about the MAC football championship being in Detroit giving them an unfair advantage. They will be in for a rude awakening if the MAC relocates, as it should, that game to Haslamland once the current contract ends.

Yes, also Troy doesn't look like an easy place to get to. You have to fly into Montgomery, which would almost certainly require a layover unless you charter a flight, and then jump on a bus and drive an hour to Troy. I feel that more than offsets the extra day of rest.

I was at that game so I didn't get to see a close up or replay. I have noticed quite a few times when watching games this season that what appeared to me to be a charge got called a block. I'm not just referring to Akron games either.
-
I by no means am a fan of Kent, but if you don't want opposing teams celebrating don't choke away a late 17 point lead.
-
I don't have any analytics to back it up, but I watch a fair amount of college basketball outside of just Akron games. It seems in those charge/block scenarios blocking is always called now. It seemed before at least once or twice a game a charge would be called. I'm not sure if its being officiated any differently or if defenders have lost the art form.

Toledo fans I see on the internet are Kowalchoke stans. They come up with any excuse to justify his underachiements. No complaints on my end since as long as he's at Toledo it's one less team that I have to worry about in March.

Very sloppy play so far. I don't even think EMU is doing anything special to force these turnovers. Just Akron trying to force passes they shouldn't.

There are $21 tickets those nights behind the basket. You just have to use code ZIPS26

Tavari, Evan, Scott, and Hardman are all seniors. If he's looking for playing time he will have plenty of opportunity to get minutes next year as we will be much thinner at guard/wing next year. I'm sure Akron is going to look to reload, but I kind of feel this year is similar to Freeman's senior year where this is our year to make noise. Next year, even with a reload, we will need a lot of time to develop as a team and our ceiling likely won't be as high as this team. For that reason I feel the best players need to play. If Oggy wants minutes he needs to earn them in practice.

He was involved in that point shaving scandal that came out a few weeks ago. The incidents he is connected to are before his time at EMU.

I would think Chabi will play 10-15 minutes/game moving forward. That's what he was getting a night the last few games leading up to his injury. When we face Kent again, and assuming Whaley plays, I wouldn't be shocked if we see Amani and Chabi on the court at the same time for stretches of the game. We don't have much need to deviate from our 4 guard lineup as it matches up well against most MAC teams. Kent is kind of the one team that has both depth and size in the paint. The rebounding edge they had against us is still a concern. Had they shot even a horrible 25% from 3 that would have been a much different game because of all the extra possessions those rebounds gave them.

That's what happens when people make politics their identity. There is an off topic section on this forum. If people wish to engage in those kind of discussion it should be moved there. I'll just be sure to avoid those threads.

I might be in the minority, but from my eye test when I've seen him on the floor he still looks very raw and appears to still be adapting to the American game. Him joining the team so late didn't help his cause. He could have probably used an extra ~3 months of practice in the offseason.
