  1. Miami (OH) is disbanding their esports program. They cite lack of funding. I wouldn't have thought it would have a high overhead, but its not like I follow it. https://x.com/i/status/2040066798066782662
  2. D2 has probably been an underutilized resource for us. I don't know anything about Todd May, but perhaps he can help direct us to some sophomore or juniors at that level who can be immediate helps.
  3. Was just now reading a longer article. Who knows how it would hold up in the courts. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/donald-trump-president-executive-order-college-sports-transfers-eligibility-nil/
  4. I definitely agree here. The cupboard was very bare when Groce inherited this program and he had us ready to compete at the top of the MAC by year 3. With the portal now your program can be decimated quicker, but it can also be rebuilt quicker. I wouldn't see why we couldn't be in a position to compete in year 1 or at least by year 2.
  5. I think LCJ still had 1 year of eligibility remaining when he decided to go play overseas. They allow other pros to come play college ball. Let's bring LCJ back to reestablish that culture. To clarify I doubt NCAA wouldn't allow it.
  6. I think Eric's value will be much higher than Young's and will be the one less likely to return. Nothing in his game is great at this stage, but he does a lot of things well with no obvious flaws. Add in his 6'6" size and the fact he can guard positions 1-4 and he fits the positionless basketball style most teams wish to play.
  7. The fact he was a bit reluctant to say if anyone was coming back when he was interviewed led me to believe it was likely we would lose at least one of, if not both, of Eric and Young. I'm not really surprised. It's not like Bud, Ford, and perhaps even Groce didn't have conversations with the players about their futures leading up to Groce's departure. Next year will definitely be a much different team as nobody left I feel you can say you can build around that player, at least for the coming season.
  8. Received mine yesterday and wearing it as we speak. Coming from someone who doesn't like wearing hats I can confirm it's comfortable.
  9. He probably has already bought 50 yard line tickets.
  10. I think it was before your time here, but he spent years obsessing over Bowden's departure. Rumor has it these days he's president of the Terry Bowden fan club.
  11. We'll have to see what MLB owners have to sacrifice in exchange for a hypothetical salary cap. A big reason the Guardians remain competitive while keeping a low payroll is player development. A lot of Guardian players are with the team 6, 7, 8 years before they get to hit free agency. I would imagine the players union would push to shorten this and allow players to make far more than they do currently there first 3 years of league service.
  12. I feel several of these are understated. Texas Tech was already at ~10M this year and reports are NIL spend is expected to increase 35% this year. If they remained close to that I'd expect more like $13M-$14M spend. I feel the ones that are mostly accurate are the ones that had coaching changes as they had to advertise their spend to attract new coaches. There is very little incentive for a Duke, Illinois, or Arkansas to divulge what they plan to spend.
  13. I don't really follow the news of Twitter or X or whatever it's referred to these days. Any word on support staff other than Morrow?
  14. They probably had more NIL /s
  15. It's a step up I suppose from his unpaid internship at Clemson
  16. You can probably add the Browns to that list. I believe they have been at or near the top of the league in dollars spent the last few years from trying to manipulate the cap by converting base salary into signing bonuses and then absorbing large cap hits when said player isn't even on the roster.
  17. That's pretty accurate. Even Providence College said they plan to spend $10M next year. That would mean I would expect the Michigan, Florida, and Alabama to spend closer to $15 million. I imagine the top 2-3 spending programs like a Duke or Kentucky could approach or surpass $20M
  18. Maybe he does, but hard to give someone with only 39 followers any clout.
  19. You heard the man.
  20. I could have sworn I was in an elevator with Nemer at half-time during the Kent game. Then again maybe that was the booze thinking.
  21. Roster construction is still important. UMass spent the most money in the MAC, but still finished 8th in the MAC. If you pay top dollar for a bunch of mid players that's not going to suddenly make them great. The issue is there is a lot more money out there than there are players worth spending it on. You're going to see more and more fringe P5 players, like Nate Johnson, command $1.5M+ plus. You have to spend a lot of money to contend, but just because you spend a lot of money doesn't mean you will contend. If that makes any sense.
  22. Not surprising, I read LSU has a $40 million roster for football next year. It seems about 1/3 of what gets spent on football gets spent on basketball.
  23. I wouldn't mind him, but I doubt we could afford him.
