  1. The MAC East is a dumpster fire. Easily the worst division in all of FBS. By year 3 I'd expect to make a bowl game and by year 5 or 6 I'd expect us to contend for the division crown most years. It's not like we're in a situation like Maryland or Rutgers where we have no chance of success.
  2. You will see a lot of mid-majors be able to hang with the Kentucky's and North Carolina's of the world for the first 25-30 minutes. Those final 10-15 minutes are kind of when mid-major schools get tired legs and can't keep up the high level of energy/effort that kept in the game up to that point.
  3. With 3 games in 3 days it should be interesting to see how much we press the ball
  4. I'd say Vermont is likely the favorite to win the tournament. They already have wins against Northern Iowa and Yale, both of which are solid mid-majors. Their loss was against a ranked Maryland. After Vermont I'd say Akron, Rice, and Oakland are all capable of winning the tournament. Overall it should be a good test for Akron.
  5. I do believe LeBron hooked the basketball program up with a deal with Nike that gets them tons of free gear. Obviously none of this comes out of LeBron's own pocket.
  6. I'd say it's in a worse spot. Out football program is obviously bad, but even in our worst years we wouldn't lose to Walsh University. That's pretty much what WMU just did in basketball.
  7. That D2 school wasn't even a good D2 school. They were projected to finish 10th out of 11 teams in the GLIAC preseason poll...
  8. Yes, we pay schools like Wheeling University to play us. We don't pay much though maybe $10k-15k or so based off of what I've read other schools paying for similar type of opponents. Ohio State likely paid us somewhere in the neighborhood of 75k-125k to play them. It's not as lucrative as college football buy games, but Akron still makes money off of playing OSU in Columbus as it doesn't cost that much to drive 4 hours to Columbus and get a hotel for the night.
  9. I buy no P6 teams want to come to the JAR. Gonzaga went on the road and beat those teams to earn enough respect for those programs to start signing home and homes agreements with them. Until we reach that level of success we have to have that we will play anyone anywhere mentality.
  10. Could you imagine trying to run the triple option behind this offensive line?
  11. If Dambrot brought Duquesne for a game and they had a pregame ceremony to honor Dambrot, I'd stand up and cheer.
  12. So what I'm hearing is he's currently pretty much in the same position that he left Akron in. I wonder if he has regrets when he's making that commute back and forth to Pittsburgh on a weekly basis...
  13. If you don't like what he has to say, you can mute him that way what he says doesn't pop up when you scroll through. Also, it was friendly banter. If I actually cared enough about that comment to do a playful rebuttal, I'd just comment something about Iowa being nothing but cornfields and tractors
  14. Sounds like he'd fit right in at Akron /s
  15. So a $20 cover to buy $6 beers? I think I'll just pregame at score.
  16. It's very possible the candidates Akron is interested in are on other teams staffs. If that's the case those conversations would be taking place through the use of back channels and we wouldn't get any formal announcement until bowl season.
  17. Long overdue. They're the ones paying to keep athletics afloat.
  18. A big part of coaching at the collegiate level is recruiting. Not having the talent they need to form a somewhat competent defensive scheme falls squarely on the coaches.
  19. What took them so long?
  20. I feel another point is that just because someone is a bad OC and play caller doesn't mean they're a bad QB coach. Tons of people get promoted to roles that they're either not ready or good at despite being really good at a lessor role. Look at Bill Callahan as a prime example. The dude is 18-25 all-time as a head coach, but is regarded as the best offensive line coach in the NFL.
  21. People are talking about Trimble defensive improvement, but what about Ali on the offensive end? I remember when he started as a freshmen he was almost afraid to put up a shot. Now he might end up being our #2 or #3 scoring option.

  23. I agree the costs are really exaggerated in college athletics. Namely for scholarship and room and board. The real cost is how much do we spend feeding the players and how much they cost us in utilities. I suppose cost for some specially allocated GA tutors as well. The class rooms and dorms are already there so no cost there. It still costs a lot of money to feed 250+ scholarship athletes and I'm sure they combined cost the university thousands in utilities, but the marginal cost of having them on campus is much less than what's quoted. Edit: what we spend on coaches, athletic facilities, and travel are very much real.
  24. Liberty is paying us something like 1.3 million to go and play them without a return game. That is a money game since it wasn't a home and home agreement.
  25. Saw on zipsmbb instagram page that he signed his NLI today
