I don't care for how he uses the word "churn."  It's like he's just waiting and hoping one of the top players leave so he can have a headline "Zips in Disarray."  Torrey and Sina are natural departures.

Appreciate the feedback.  Basically you are OK with the investments and decisions UA has made and you are looking forward to "next year".  That is awesome!  I also hope next year is great.

Yes.  I try to be optimistic.  It's fun to bitch and complain during the game threads as our emotions run up and down but I'm not going to run down the university or Groce until he gives me reason to do so. And I spent all the KD years looking forward to next year as well.

As for football, amazingly huge awful horrendous mistake in hiring ICoach.  And the AD who did that is gone.

I always knew Jimond was not the type to cut and run.  Never got that vibe from him.

So when are the deadlines for recruits to make their moves and others to possibly transfer.  I'm thinking there are no other guys leaving at this point?

(Zips96 I read your post too literally.  I read that as Jimond is keeping his Twitter account.)

That is my kind of my point. Hug left because originally a commitment was made to him to make UA a basketball power.  BUT then Gerry Faust became available and was given a blank check to make football the priority.  Hug was pissed and left shortly after. It was a poor decision that has been repeated.

KD wanted a new arena and would have stayed had it been built BUT a decision was made to build the INfo and hire another Notre Dame reject to take over the team.

Not saying Hug would have stayed forever, I am telling you he got shafted and left. Ditto for KD.

Not saying KD is as good a coach as Hug but I do believe facilities and attendance bring in better recruits. Add LBJ, we had a rare opportunity to make a splash on the national stage. Instead we have a giant football stadium 1/5th filled.

Football is is too expensive and it’s futile to try and compete with what will ultimately be (or is) a 4 league D1 competition.

We we should have taken the Xavier, Gonzaga, Wichita State, Dayton model. Which schools have more pride?  Which schools are ridiculed for have the worst attendance/Gameday experience for football.

Your best idea was when you suggested deleting the thread.

I think the Zips will be awesome next year.   Like the new coach, like the players.  And I don't mind the JAR.  Get the team rolling again and the seats will fill up.  Even with the down year, attendance looked not too different  than other years at least from my perspective.

  6. Did anyone else see the end of the Notre Dame/Mississippi State women's championship game?  Game tied and MSU stole the ball with 9 seconds left and was racing towards their end of the floor when a ND player body checked the MSU player and stole the ball back setting up the final game-winning shot.  No foul called.  Guarantee that would be called in a men's game.

  7. Found this today on SB Nation:

"Sources close to Bobcat athletic director Jim Schaus tell us that the increasingly angry Ohio University donors and alumni are calling for Saul Phillips ouster as head coach of the men's basketball program.   While Phillips still has a year on his contract, major donors ramped up their calls to fire Phillips as they watched Buffalo, UMBC, and Loyola make March Madness runs similar to Ohio's success during the John Groce era.  Sources further confirmed that Schaus is in San Antonio this weekend and met with two recently fired coaches: Connecticut's Kevin Ollie and Texas-Arlington's Scott Cross.  Both Cross and Ollie are still negotiating with their former schools regarding the terms of their departure and refused to comment for this story.  Phillips, for his part, said only last week that he is committed to Bobcat basketball and had Schaus' full support."

Pretty sure the husky is his dog.

Yeah.  Looks like it.  Beautiful animal.  Times sure are slow here when we (well, basically just me) are looking for any news in a players choice of dog.;)

I know nothing about the situation. BUT if I had a nickel for every false rumor I have heard about an Akron athlete...

I'm just a fan, and I am more pumped about next season than I have been in more than a decade.

I can't imagine if I were a solid contributor this year, how excited I would be for next season. ??

Ugh.  Trying to decipher Jimond's Twitter feed is maddening.  I learned the Antino is entering the NBA draft and that "major moves" coming soon.  and now his icon is a pic of a husky dog.  University of Washington?

I will go to my grave thinking the UTA game against us last year was the best basketball performance I've ever seen. I'm convinced they would have beaten anyone in the country that night.

I have a good friend who is communication director for Arlington, Texas.  He said they were ready to run a puff piece on Cross about him and his dream job.  They had to pull it.  He said the university president is a prick.  Take a note Board of Trustees.

A lot of similarities to Akron

Despite having a relatively new basketball arena, a larger student body, and larger metro area they still have the same issues as us in not being able to fill their basketball arena. Makes you question the logic when people say a new arena will fix Akron's attendance problems.

The arena is not the issue.  A full and rocking JAR is an awesome environment for a game.  Groce and his volatility and emotion will really get things going when we are back on top again.

I never said they were founded or unfounded.  I said it was brought up by a number of people with whom I had discussed the Zips.  I was quite surprised by it and brought it up to see what others had heard.  My hope is that it all has no basis.

Oh.   . (sorry, Clark needed an emoticon in last post)

Wow. That's the team that smoked us in the NIT in '17, right?

Yes.  But they didn't follow that up with anything this year with 5 seniors.  But reading about the situation, it would be like if Akron fired Dambrot.
