Thomas Wilder reminds me a bit of DJ Cooper in the 2013 championship game or Jerron Simmons when he blew the final possession versus Kent in the semis last year.  Wilder wanted to be a pro this year.  I think our guys are hungry for this win tomorrow and Wilder is ready to bolt K'Zoo... so says NWAkron.

And does someone want to tell GT we are the 11th seed not the 10th!

  3. Some historical perspective for the MAC tournament and the lower seeds:

2002:   Akron is 11th seed and WMU is the 6th seed.  Zips won that game and went to the quarterfinals.

2003:  11th seed Ohio makes it to the semis.

2004:  Akron loses in first round as 11th seed.

2009:   5th seed Akron beats 12th seed Toledo by 1 point and goes on to win.

2010:   Ohio won making it all the way through as the 9th seed playing first game at Ball State.

2016:   BGSU as the 12th seed made it to the semis and lost to Akron after beating Kent and Central Michigan

I noticed that when Marshall was in the MAC only the top 3 teams made it to Cleveland.  Of course, I liked it better for those few years when all the teams got to go.  We played our first round against Toledo at the Q in 2009.  Wasn't that the last game of the night?

  4. WMU deserves to lose to us after screwing over a lot of teams and sending the insufferable Cardinals straight to Cleveland.  Now the Kittens head right back across the state to Oxford.   BG also lost their home court advantage because of the CMU win.

Either team we played...Miami or Western...we were going to be the team coming in with a win and some confidence.

After this weekend's games anything can happen after you get below the top 3 seeds.

Central Michigan’s victory over Western Michigan on Saturday left Kent State with the No. 5 seed and the University of Akron with the No. 11 seed in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, which opens Monday with games at campus sites.

The Golden Flashes (15-16, 9-9 MAC) will host No. 12 Northern Illinois (13-18, 6-12) at 7 p.m. Monday and the winner will play No. 4 Ball State (19-12, 10-8) at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Zips (13-17, 6-12) will play at Western Michigan (17-14, 9-9) at 7 p.m. Monday and the winner will play No. 3 Eastern Michigan (20-11, 11-7) at approximately 9 p.m. Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena.

The other first-round games on Monday will be No. 10 Ohio (14-16, 7-11) at No. 7 Miami (15-16, 8-10) and No. 9 Central Michigan (17-13, 7-11) at No. 8 Bowling Green (16-15, 7-11).

The Ohio-Miami winner will play No. 2 Toledo (21-10, 13-5) at 6:30 p.m. and the Bowling Green-Central Michigan winner will play No. 1 Buffalo (23-8, 15-3) at noon on Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena.

  5. Millet Hall is a death trap for the Zips, but I still preferred Miami.  At this point it's what team has the heart to do it.  What a colossal fail by Western.  Gives Ball State who just lost to NIU an undeserved bye.  Sends NIU to Kent.

  6. So if all goes according to plan (and it will), we are set up for an epic quarterfinal battle between the two best bigs in the MAC:   Mark Kostelac v James Thompson V !!

Someone saw Clark already camped out at the Verizon store in Macedonia.

  7. Watched the replay.   Apart from Jackie Windom being a national treasure, the jawing started with De la Rosa from the bench at Cotton before game was over.   However, we don't know what precipitated that.  Refs showed a lot of restraint in that regard.   And no baskets last 4+ minutes.  All free throws.  Some were really clear.  Others not so much.

I like what Jackie said about our last time out.  Basically, Zips worked too hard all game to have one of the Jalens just run it down the court for a quick two or three.  Set the defense.  It worked.

In case you guys haven't seen yet, the WMU-CMU game has been moved to Northwood University at 11 am tomorrow. Only family members are allowed to attend.

And that game has so many consequences.  Just crazy.

  9. With 3.6 seconds left I looked at the lady to my right and then at the lady to my left.  I said to both of them...I'm giving this to God.  I've been through too many crazy, awful endings.

I thought Utomi was going to get T'd up when he started clapping his hands right in the PCCC guy's face near the end.   OMG...Cotton getting in De La Rosa's face...to paraphrase a line from Hoosiers, "that's the second kind of stupid."

Unless of course you use NWAkron as a backstop!

Doesn't this seem like a lifetime ago!!  What a long season this has been.  At risk of sounding like a Kitten Attacker,  because of all this crazy adversity I feel like I know or understand this team better than those years past.

My biggest worry back then was avoiding getting torpedoed by the T-shirt cannon.  Sunrise. Sunset.

This always helps me getting a little amped for these games.

One of best nights ever.  Although, I swear if you watch that entire clip carefully it really looks like Quincy provoked the incident.

I'm not trying to be mean, and I don't actually know at this minute where ticket sales stand for tonight.

But, please tell me you aren't falling for the oldest ticket-selling advertisement in the book (limited tickets still available).

Is there a parade you haven't rained on?

To me, to quote the renowned philosopher Dennis Green, "they are who we thought they were." All in all, there were a couple who did not develop as I'd hoped, but no one who made huge strides or surprised me.

Or when they show you who they are, believe them.
