Or, maybe some people are just more knowledgeable than you about certain topics?  And actually do have a basis for what they are posting?

I'd definitely agree with whoever says that Toledo has had the most "issues" of any men's basketball program in our league over the last several years.

And the point-shaving issue was over 10 years ago.  But if we are going to trade in rumor and speculation lets go all out and say that: Nick Dials was going to blow the whistle and that's why they fired him?  :tomato:

Nobody here has given me any guidance on this but I spoke to a buddy this a.m. who had seats right behind the bench Thursday night.  Apparently, there was an incident involving JImond and Malcolm "counseling" Virshon, and a subsequent "conversation" between Groce and Virshon.  Sigh.

We are all speculating but my two cents is that this type of distraction during the game wears mentally on our top players.  My thought is that more bad plays occur from being mentally tired rather than being physically tired.   LIke I said in the other thread,  Big Dog led the team because he was an emotional rock for the team and the players could count on him to do his job.

I learned a lot more about the game this year watching a struggling team than I did watching a dominating team.

Does anyone know when the cuts/additions are finalized?

    Well, here we are.

it's going to be fascinating to watch how the 18-19 team comes together.

Parrish is really the sleeper of the squad.  He, Daniel, and Jimond are going to be super awesome next year.  And hopefully, they won't have to play 35+ minutes per game and will have a couple big players inside who will assist them rather than hinder them.   Occasionally, I would see Jimond telling KLac and Patton where to go and what to do.

While Big Dog slowed the game down a bit, the guards/forwards never had to tell him where to be, he had those amazing hands especially the final season, didn't make turnovers, and had those eyes that could find the open man.

Our biggest rival for MAC dominance vs the dirtiest program in the MAC...wonderful

I heard some innuendo about that as well. Maybe it's a holdover from their point-shaving scandal and NCAA probation.

However, I think I can overlook that for a day because I really want to see SUNY Canada sent packing to the NIT.  It's been almost 40 years since Toledo made it to the NCAA.  Time for them to get a chance at it.

The refs slowed down the game, we slowed down the game.  And it caught up to us when they started hitting their shots and we could not make a basket.

This thread has some really good commentary.  What 1981 says above is exactly what caused the problems last night.  However, I think next year with a full roster the Zips wont need to run out the clock in order to win.

  6. 1.  The first half moved at a quick pace with minimal fouls and interruptions.

    2.  The second half was a horrible grind.  I looked at the clock around 11 minutes and thought that the Zips were going to have trouble hanging on unless this game moves faster.  Then came all the fouls and technicals and reviews and blah, blah, blah.

    3.  When Zips were running at top form last night, I thought...maybe...they could go all the way. However, when it started to fall apart, I thought even if they hold on they weren't going to survive a Friday night game.

    4.  Physical and mental fatigue looked to be playing a huge part at the end.  EMU has the better, more experienced players in key positions and that pulled them through in the end.

    5.  Eastern has a really good team.  I hope they win it all.

  7. Wasn't too bad a drive up here.  And parking indoors at the Q is only $15 this year.    One problem is I can't get to a restaurant because the streets are packed with EMU fans.  It's a sea of green!

(Rowdies should sponsor a scavenger hunt.  Free pizza and beer to whoever can find and capture an Eastern fan).

I had to watch the video to see what he meant, because no team that fights back from a 27-4 deficit can be accused of not caring.

Alexander was speaking of the Zips relentless defense, and the fact that they don't care if they foul out. Players will use all 5 fouls if that's what it takes. No easy opponent bucketst.

    Can't complain about that observation.

Right.   That's how I understood it as well sorry if it didn't translate.

  9. Elton says Toledo is first game.  The bracket says Buffalo has the first game.  Is there anyone at the Q now who could tell me who is warming up?

On Cleveland.com, Elton didn't trash the Zips.  He said "the Zips don't care" and foul a lot.  And if we are "shooting it" EMUs going to have a problem.

It's a strange feeling.  Almost like playing with house money.  I've become used to the Zips being a favorite and having trepidation that they might blow it.  This whole underdog thing just feels weird.

Absolutely!!!   Did you see the video on Twitter of the players and Groce celebrating after the WMU game?  It's pretty cool.  Everyone is jumping around except Daniel who is sitting down with a towel over his face.  Cotton pulled him out of the fire.

Maybe EMUs lack of fan support, a tradition of choking in the tourney, and almost 6 days off will deliver to the Q a flat team of Hurons

So, what's the over/under on the number of free student tickets that will be claimed at the Corner Alley?

I have another question, Clark.  If we win on Saturday and become a 16th seed, could we be one of the teams to play in Dayton for the play-in round?

Also, if Central beats Buffalo at Noon tomorrow we might be able to accomplish the rare Michigan Trifecta!

    And another thing:

Eastern Michigan is 0-5 against the Akron Zips in the MAC Tournament. Thursday, @ZipsMBB will try to make that 0-6.

    2017 - Akron 79, EMU 62

    2016 - Akron 65, EMU 63

    2011 - Akron 67, EMU 53

    2010 - Akron 97, EMU 89

    2005 - Akron 78, EMU 66

Sayles does have the brace off, but I didn't notice that until the PCCC game.  I'd be surprised if he's back this year.

As for E-man, I noticed he was the only UA men's basketball player on the Dean's List per the list given out at the PCCC game.  Good for him!  I miss that kid on the floor.

Looked like he had it back on for the WMU game.  At the Kent game, the brace was off, but at least I could tell that he was still favoring it.  Patton played his best game the other night.  I'm rather hoping the entire team is back for next year.
